  • Patent number: 7672486
Abstract: The quality of printed matter, which is one of several copies of the same printed matter produced by a printing machine, is evaluated. An amount of copies of the printed matter is selected from the total production of this printed matter. The selected amount of these copies are evaluated with regard to at least one error type which belongs to an amount of different error types or with regard to at least one feature of the error. Within the selected amount of copies, an error of a defined error type or of a defined feature, which is detected on at least one of the copies, is evaluated in relation to at least one error of another type or feature detected on the same copy, or another copy of the selected amount. The printed matter is classified as having good or bad quality based on that evaluation. A common reading, producing image data, is obtained by an image sensor from the selected copies.

  • Patent number: 7669937
Abstract: A method for extracting minerals from a narrow-vein deposit by thermal fragmentation is provided. The method includes locating the vein and determining the extent thereof to form the boundaries of a stope. Access to the stope is prepared by forming a panel having an upper drift and a lower drift. Equipment for thermal fragmentation, including a burner, is installed from the upper drift. The burner moves along the panel surface in a sweeping motion, while rock chips spalled from the rock panel surface are collected. Multiple panels for processing can be realised, with lower panels being processed before upper panels, by excavating a sub-level to separate the lower and upper panels.

  • Patent number: 7664294
Abstract: A system is provided for inspecting a printed image. The system is provided with at least one evaluation unit, a display device and an image scanner. That scanner takes an image that represents, at least partially, a printed image. The copied printed image belongs to a sequence of images printed on a print carrier by a printing machine. The evaluation unit receives data that is correlated to an image which has been taken, and evaluates that data by comparing it with recorded data of at least one preceding image, or with a reference image. The display device is provided with a graphic display surface that is comprised of several areas which are controlled, in a different manner, by the evaluation unit, and which are preferably simultaneously displayed. A first area displays several images, such as the just taken image, the preceding image and the reference image.

  • Patent number: 7661359
Abstract: A printing machine includes a printing cylinder that is fitted with plates for printing the width of N pages. A web of material is printed and is then cut longitudinally, by an elongate cutting device, into printed webs. The number N of pages is a whole number that is divisible by three and the total width of N pages is less than the width of the printing cylinder. A width of N+1 pages is greater than the width of the printing cylinder. The elongate cutting device can be arranged, on one boundary, between a Kth and a Kth+1 page, wherein k is one third or two thirds of N. At least one of the resulting partial webs is guided through a former. The former is oriented so that the direction of travel of the web entering the former is transverse to the direction of web travel in the elongated cutting device. The former has a width that is equal to, or greater than two thirds of the width of the printing cylinder, but is less than the entire width of the printing cylinder.

  • Patent number: 7650019
Abstract: A method is used for the early identification of a deviation in the printed images which have been formed by a printing press during continuous production. A second decision threshold is provided, in addition to a decision regarding good or bad print quality. A current printed image, that has been captured, is compared with a reference image. If the current image deviates from the reference image, that deviation is evaluated using two decision thresholds.

  • Patent number: 7634964
Abstract: A quantity of ink is dosed in an inking system of a printing machine, which inking system is provided with at least one dosing device that can be used to modify the quantity of ink which is transferred by the inking system. The dosing device can be adjusted by the use of an adjusting element to modify the quantity of ink that is to be transferred. A modification of the quantity of ink is defined by an adjustment of the adjusting element. The dosing device is adjusted in accordance with a pre-determined correlation between the amount of the adjustment of the adjusting device and the current state of the dosing device. The adjustment of the dosing device is carried out in accordance with the correlation in such a way that a relation between the modification of the quantity of ink caused by the adjustment of the dosing device, and the ink quantity transferred by the dosing device remains essentially constant.

  • Patent number: 7635830
Abstract: An optical system is usable for forming an illuminated pattern on the surface of a material which is being displaced with respect to that illuminated pattern. An illuminating device, which includes several light sources that are driven in a pulsed manner by a control unit, emits light that is used to form the illuminated pattern. A detection device detects the light emitted by the illuminating device. The control unit controls one individual light source, or a group of light sources. An operating time of the light source or sources is synchronized with an exposure time of the detection device. The operating time of the light source is shorter than the exposure time of the detection device.

  • Patent number: 7614343
Abstract: At least one of a transverse elongation and a longitudinal elongation of a printing material are compensated for. The printing material passes through serially arranged printing couples in a printing press. A component of the transverse elongation is compensated for after passage of the printing material through a first printing couple and before its entry into a second printing couple. This can be accomplished by the use of a framing controller. Alternatively, this transverse elongation can be compensated for by the displacement of at least one printing form which is situated on a subsequent printing couple. The printing form can be displaced transverse to a production direction of the printing material, relative to a reference mark on the printing material. An elongation of the printing material, which is known at the time of image generation on a printing form of a subsequent printing couple can be compensated for by proper configuration or positioning of the printed image on the printing form.
