  • Patent number: 7538935
Abstract: A technique for generating variable pulse delays uses one or more nonlinear-optical processes such as cross-phase modulation, cross-gain modulation, self-phase modulation, four-wave mixing or parametric mixing, combined with group-velocity dispersion. The delay is controllable by changing the wavelength and/or power of a control laser. The delay is generated by introducing a controllable wavelength shift to a pulse of light, propagating the pulse through a material or an optical component that generates a wavelength dependent time delay, and wavelength shifting again to return the pulse to its original wavelength.

  • Patent number: 7526890
Abstract: A rugged, adjustable optical alignment device well suited for use as a pistol rear sight is adapted for use in a dovetail, as is customarily seen on the slide of an automatic pistol. The sight assembly includes a rear notch, but could just as easily include a peep aperture or other optical alignment structure. The rear sight provides an easy click-detent adjusting mechanism for horizontal translation of the notch, as well as a second click-detent mechanism for vertical translation of the structure defining the notch, thereby providing adjustments for windage and elevation. A base hingedly supports a vertical tilt member. A horizontal slide member mounted on the rear of the vertrical tilt member is horizontally translatable by adjustment of a windage adjustment screw.

  • Patent number: 7523706
Abstract: Transfer of printing ink is adjusted using a first roller in an inking unit of a printing machine, which transfers ink to a forme cylinder. A temperature control unit enables an outer surface of the first roller to reach a required temperature and/or to enable an outer surface of the forme cylinder to reach the required temperature. That temperature control unit can be either controlled or regulated by an adjusting device. Specific curves or reference points for an interrelationship between a production speed of a printing machine and the respective required temperature on the outer surface of the forme cylinder, or on the outer surface of the first roller are stored in a storage unit of the adjusting device for various printing inks or ink types.

  • Patent number: 7513860
Abstract: A folding apparatus includes a folding blade cylinder that carries at least one group of identical tools which are distributed homogeneously about the periphery of the folding blade cylinder. A cam plate is traced or followed by a control lever of each such group of tools and is usable to control a working movement of the tool. A cover disk, consisting of a plurality of cover cams, can be rotated. The cover cams of the cover disk are displaceable between an inactive position, in which they enable the control of the working movement by the cam plate, and an active position in which they prevent such movement. Two groups of tools are used on the folding blade cylinder and the cover cams form a first group of cams at an angular distance of between 60° or 120° to each other, and a second group of cams at an angular distance of between 90° to 180° to each other.

  • Patent number: 7513196
Abstract: At least one register and an ink density are controlled in a printing machine having at least one printing unit which includes a forme cylinder, a transfer cylinder, and a counter-pressure cylinder. An image sensor records an image from a print substrate, which is imprinted with ink, inside the printing unit, and sends data correlated to that image to an evaluation unit. The data for the last printed image is compared with prior data and in response, the evaluation unit generates a command that is directed to an actuator for controlling the supply of ink. The image sensor is oriented towards the print substrate and detects the entire width of the printed substrate, which width is transverse to a direction of substrate conveyance. The evaluation unit generates the actuating command to control the supply of ink based on data from the image sensor and taken over the entire width of the substrate. The evaluation unit also controls register, based on this data.

  • Patent number: 7510219
Abstract: An interconnection for oil field tubular goods operates in a self sealing manner in response to internal pressures which might otherwise cause leakage through couplings or joints. Each coupling sleeve includes an interior fulcrum ring fitted between the nose ends of the tubing or casing, and centrally engaging a fulcrum seating zone centered in the sleeve. Internal pressures tend to bend the ends of the fulcrum ring outwardly toward clearance or relief spans on each side of the fulcrum zone. This deflection increases the contact force and enhances the metal-to-metal seal between the end faces of the fulcrum ring and the pin end faces.

  • Patent number: 7510030
Abstract: A pair of elongated crossed coils is deployed in a first borehole and an instrument containing magnetic field sensors is deployed in a second borehole. The crossed coils are energized in quadrature by AC currents producing a rotating, elliptically polarized magnetic field at the second borehole. Mathematical analysis of the magnetic field sensor readings determines the location of the second borehole relative to the first. Both the distance and the rotational direction to the second borehole are determined as a function of depth of the sensors relative to that of the pair of crossed coils. Twisting of the long coil in the borehole is evaluated and the relative distance between the boreholes and the corrections needed due to such twisting are determined.

Abstract: The hair clip comprises two combs and at least one elastic member to bias the teeth of the combs toward each other in overlapping relationship. The teeth of the combs are similar and are at least slightly wider than the spaces between the teeth. In use, the combs may be twisted relatively to each other while inserting them into engagement, such that some of the teeth of one comb overlay and others underlay the teeth of the other combs so as to clamp hair between the two combs. Preferably the teeth are oval or elliptical in cross-section, such that they interfit partially with the teeth with which they are engaged.
