Abstract: Techniques involving beamforming are disclosed. For example, For instance an apparatus may select a first mobile station served by a first base station and a second mobile station served by a second base station. Based on this selection, a quality metric may be determined that is based on a strength of a user link and a strength of an interfering link. The user link is associated with service of the first mobile station and the interfering link is associated with service of the second mobile station. When the quality metric is greater than a predetermined threshold, the apparatus may designate the first and second mobile stations as suitable for beamforming service in a same resource allocation. Also, techniques are disclosed for determining whether a mobile station is a cell edge mobile station.
Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag may have a non-responsive mode, triggered by a command from an RFID reader, that temporarily prevents the RFID tag from responding to a query from any RFID reader for a period of time. In some embodiments this non-responsive mode may automatically end after a certain period of time without further action by the RFID reader. In other embodiments this non-responsive mode may end when directed to by another command addressed specifically to the RFID tag.
Abstract: Systems and techniques to manage location management and paging operations for idle mode mobile stations are described. An apparatus may comprise a first foreign agent having a foreign agent idle mode manager to store idle mode information for an idle mobile station in a first paging area of a wireless network. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract: Techniques for collaborative power management for heterogeneous networks are described. An apparatus may include a first node having a managed power system and a power management module to manage power states for the managed power system. The power management module may be operative to communicate power state information with a second node over a communications connection, and manage the power states for the managed power system based on power state information for the second node. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract: In accordance with the preferred embodiment and alternative embodiments of the invention, RFID network control devices (RNCDs) are provided wherein RFID traffic signals from any one of multiple RFID readers may be routed to any of the RFID antennas coupled to the RNCD. Each reader coupled directly or indirectly to the RNCD, either through its own action or the action of the external host controller managing the reader, may issue commands to the RNCD, over the same cable used to carry RFID traffic signals, and cause the RNCD to set its internal switch configuration such that a channel is established for RFID traffic signals between that reader and a particular RFID antenna coupled to the RNCD. This may include commands from the reader or external host controller which place other intervening RNCD units in a bypass state so as to establish the required communications channel with a minimum of signal strength loss.

Abstract: Apparatus, system, and method having a first counter to record a number of invalid authentication requests, a first timer to set a first time period based on a value of the first counter, and an authentication module associated with the first counter and the first timer to receive an initial authentication request that includes a username and when said username is invalid, the module is to invalidate any subsequent authentication requests under the username during the first time period regardless of whether the subsequent requests includes a valid username. The system further includes a communication medium. The method includes receiving an authentication request with new information in a first session, validating the new information, and caching the validated new information in the first session.

Abstract: A system, apparatus, method, and article to process a flexible macroblock ordering and arbitrary slice ordering are described. The apparatus may include a video decoder. The video decoder includes a processor to store coding parameters of one or more neighboring macroblocks in a data buffer. The neighboring macroblocks are previously decoded macroblocks and are adjacent to a current macroblock. The processor is to store control parameters for each of the one or more neighboring macroblocks in the data buffer. The processor is to reconstruct coding parameters for the current macroblock using availability information associated with the neighboring macroblocks.
Abstract: An embodiment is an EAS tag that may be included in an EAS system. More specifically, an embodiment is an EAS tag including an arcuate channel and additional features to hinder the removal of the EAS tag with devices other than those specifically designed for such a purpose.
Abstract: Briefly, a method an apparatus and a wireless communication device are provided. The wireless communication device includes a receiver to receive complex sequences of symbols. The receiver includes an estimator to estimate one or more channel taps. The estimator includes a memory to store at least a portion of one or more calculated values of an estimation matrix and is capable to estimate the one or more channel taps based on a stored portion of calculated values of the estimation matrix.
Abstract: A household appliance, such as a microwave oven or cordless phone, reduces interference with a wireless network by requesting control of the network's channel during a period of time when the appliance will be emitting signals that may interfere with network communications on that channel. Some embodiments contend for the channel before transmitting the request by using standard protocols, while other embodiments simply transmit the request during a detected idle period. Some embodiments don't bother sending a request if no activity is detected on the channel.
Abstract: An electronic device includes one or more Time-Domain Reflectometor (TDR) channels and a security block embedded at a silicon or software level to measure human electrical impedance and characteristics for biometric identification and provide biometric authentication.
Abstract: Apparatus, system, and method including a local resource to transfer information between a first processing unit and a second processing unit; and a global resource to transfer information between said first processing unit and said second processing unit, and to transfer information between said first processing unit and a third processing unit if said local resource is full are described.
Abstract: Buffering techniques for power management are described. A method may comprise modifying a power state for a communications sub-system and a computing sub-system from a higher power state to a lower power state, storing packets of information in a buffer for the communications sub-system during a communications idle duration period, generating a variable receive threshold value for the buffer, and transferring the stored packets of information from the buffer to the computing sub-system based on a variable receive threshold value. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract: Methods of manufacture of integrated circuit inductors having slotted magnetic material will be described. The methods may employ electro- or electroless plating techniques to form a layer or layers of magnetic material within the slotted magnetic material structure, and in particular those magnetic material layers adjacent to insulator layers.

Abstract: A method for hosting a programming environment and processing user input includes the step of receiving, during a first session between a user and an interaction environment, via one of a plurality of media gateways, a definition of an expression type, the definition specifying an expression format and a response type. The definition is stored. During a second session between a second user and the interaction environment, an expression having a semantic structure is received, from a user, via one of a plurality of media gateways. The semantic structure of the expression is evaluated. An expression format of the received expression is identified as the expression format specified by the definition of the expression type, responsive to the evaluation. A response to the expression is generated responsive to an execution of a computer program associated with the response type specified by the definition of the expression type.
