  • Patent number: 4662606
Abstract: A pipe propelling device comprises two sets of jack assemblies spaced from each other and arranged in the direction of propelling the pipe in a vertical shaft having a reacting shaft wall so that the small diameter pipe such as water supply and drainage pipes, gas pipes and cable laying pipes can be propelled from the interior to the exterior of the vertical shaft by the extension of two sets of the jack assemblies. To reduce the dimension of the vertical shaft due to propel the pipe, eliminate the interposition of a strut in propelling the pipe and secure an operative space in the vertical shaft, the jack assemblies comprise a plurality of first stage jacks connected to the reacting shaft wall and at least one second stage jack, a cylinder of the second stage jack being connected to cylinders of the first stage jacks.

  • Patent number: 4662900
Abstract: Method for removal of malodorous and/or toxic components from waste gases by biological treatment of the same. Such removal is accomplished by passing the gas stream through a humidifying temperature conditioning section and then through a filter bed. The filter bed consists of a mixture of an organic biological active material, like compost, an inert fraction and additives for neutralization and organic buffening. Also disclosed is the inoculation of the filter bed with specific micro-organisms adapted to remove constituents of the gas stream which are difficultly biodegradable, e.g. methylenechloride.

  • Patent number: 4662407
Abstract: An apparatus for maintaining the warp threads in a multi-beam loom at a constant tension includes tension sensors for each beam, and a microprocessor-based control circuit which provides individual speed control signals to the motors during each beam. The circuit samples the warp tension at regular intervals and recalculates the optimum speeds for each motor by taking into consideration the transverse effects on each beam caused by adjacent beams.

  • Patent number: 4660576
Abstract: A mouthpiece element for a cigarette comprises a duct which extends from the periphery of the element at a first location, spaced from the mouth end of the element, to the mouth end of the element at a second location, spaced from the periphery of the element. The element is attached to a cigarette rod by tipping which permits the ingress of air to the duct at the first location. Preferably, during smoking the ratio of the velocity of air issuing from the duct at the second location to the velocity of smoke issuing from the mouth end of the element is in excess of at least ten.

  • Patent number: 4660579
Abstract: Cigarette filters comprises a filter element, open for smoke flow at the mouth end, and smoke passage of flow impedance less than that of the filter element. The passage is closed at the downstream end so that smoke is constrained to pass into the element at the downstream end of the passage. The passage may be an annular cross-section duct or grooves at the periphery of the element or may be a bore within the element. The filters provide an increasing degree of filtration as smoking proceeds.

  • Patent number: 4661157
Abstract: Boron compounds such as alkali metal or alkaline earth metal borates capable of forming hydrates or higher hydrates may be formed into shaped bodies by forming into a paste with water and allowing the water to be bound to form a solid shaped body. The bodies are useful as inserts into preformed cavities in structures, e.g. of wood, liable to insect, fungal or other infestation by virtue of the slow dissolution of the insert and the toxicity to such organisms of the boron compounds.

  • Patent number: 4658539
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for bringing pregerminated seed n a sowable and for some time storable form. The invention further relates to pilled pregerminated seeds.According to the invention the pregerminated seed is pilled, whereas in the pilling mixture at least one compound which slows down the germinating process is included under formation of a moist pill in which a suitable micro-climate is secured until the time of sowing. This required micro-climate inside the moist pill is obtained by addition of compounds which have a retarding action to the germinating process, such as compounds having an osmotic effect, e.g. water soluble sugars and their derivatives, salts, or glycols and their polymers; or having a growth retarding action, e.g. absicine acid.

  • Patent number: 4659257
Abstract: A method and a hollow body for forming a hole in the ground are disclosed. After the hollow body has been brought to the desired depth in the ground high pressure fluid is jetted through spray nozzles into the hollow body near the lower end thereof. The fluid jets effect a cutting of the ground core in the hollow body whereafter the pressurized fluid displaces the overhead ground core upwardly. The spray nozzles are spaced circumferentially and lie in the same transverse plane so that a very flat horizontal cut in the ground is accomplished by the fluid jets.
