  • Patent number: 6924790
Abstract: A pen-based portable computer system which includes one or more pen-based wireless interface devices that are adapted to communicate by way of a radio link to a remote host personal computer or server. The pen-based wireless interface device is adapted to operate in a pen mode and a mouse mode. In a mouse mode, pen down events are translated to mouse data and formulated into mouse data packets which, in turn, are transmitted over the radio link to the remote host computer or server. In order to enable the wireless interface device to switch to a pen mode, one or more ink field is created within a container application. On power-up, the system comes up in a mouse mode. Pen events within the ink field cause the system to transfer to a pen mode. Pen events within the container application are translated into pen data packets transmitted over the radio link to the remote host computer or server.

  • Patent number: 6925303
Abstract: In a cellular mobile communications network a mobile station is capable of receiving a downlink signal from each of a plurality of base stations and transmitting an uplink signal to the plurality of base stations through a wireless channel. A transmission property of the downlink signals from the plurality of base stations to the mobile station is measured, and decided, in dependence upon the measure of the transmission property, a preferred base station transmitting the downlink signal with a preferred transmission property among the plurality of the base stations. The mobile station includes, in the uplink signal, data indicating the preferred base station(s) for transmitting the subsequent downlink signal to the mobile station. The base stations receiving the uplink signal identify from the data the preferred based station(s) and only the base station(s) identified as the preferred base station(s) transmits a subsequent downlink signal to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6922104
Abstract: A distortion compensation apparatus and method for a power amplifier enable accurate distortion compensation, even if frequency amplitude deviation and group delay error are present in the power amplifier. A reverse distortion coefficient is read from a reverse distortion coefficient table. A distortion compensation process is performed on an incoming signal using the read reverse distortion coefficient. The distortion compensated signal is amplified and transmitted by the power amplifier, and the reverse distortion coefficient table is updated based on the incoming signal before distortion compensation, and the output signal of the power amplifier. The relation between the phase of the time difference value and the reverse distortion coefficient is obtained from the reverse distortion coefficient corresponding to a linear operation domain of the power amplifier.

  • Patent number: 6922394
Abstract: A communication apparatus which effectively optimizes the route for each call connection without causing any adverse effect on other existing sessions and thus contributes to better quality and reliability of telecommunications services. A source-side routing data manager collects information necessary for path calculation, evaluates every possible path with the collected information, and manages routing data that is obtained through the path evaluation. A source-side best path finder selects a best path from among those listed in the routing data. A connection releasing unit releases a particular connection when the source-side best path finder has found a new best path that is more suitable for that particular connection than the current path, while maintaining the connectivity of other existing calls. A new best path setting unit performs a call connection procedure by using the newly selected best path, after the connection releasing unit has released the current connection.

  • Patent number: 6918242
Abstract: Several methods of forming links are disclosed, whereby the outer peripheries of such links are contoured prior to assembly into rope chains. In one embodiment, the wire used in the formation of intertwinable links is contoured and then cut into individual, precontoured links. In another embodiment, the outer periphery of non-contoured links are individually contoured prior to the intertwining of such links to form actual rope chains. In another embodiment, individual links are stamped with inner and outer peripheries of different shapes. In yet another embodiment, individual links are collectively contoured, preferably after arrangement on a support such as an ice lathe or a mandril. Such contouring can be accomplished by hand, machine or the like. If such links are not already provided with a gap, then a gap can be formed into the links as part of the contouring step.

  • Patent number: 6917584
Abstract: A channel reassignment is accomplished without causing a momentary interruption resulting from a mismatch in pointer value. After a bridge setting is made between a source channel and destination channel at a first node designated as the starting point of a reassignment section, messages B/C are sent out from the first node toward a fourth node designated as the end point. Second and third nodes that received the message C each transfer the message to the next node after interlinking the pointer operation of the destination channel with the source channel. The fourth node that received the message C sends out a message D toward the first node after changing the setting of a TSA. The second and third nodes that received the message D transfers the message to the next node after clearing the pointer interlinking operation.
