  • Patent number: 4596544
Abstract: A machine to erect flat-folded cartons, especially such as carry beverage containers, from a flat-folded storage configuration to three dimensional carrying configuration. The machine feeds folded containers from a storage hopper, in singulated fashion, between two endless forwardly flaring vacuum belts which hold the carton sides and move them simultaneously therealong to initialy expand the container. The partially expanded container is then completely expanded and fastened by a cooperating over-head positioning chain structure and an underlying cam wheel and thereafter delivered for further operation. The assembly operations are sequentially timed. The vacuum belts are particularly configured to allow a continuous, rapid operation with low air flow.

  • Patent number: 4585970
Abstract: An elongate piezoelectric plastic is embodied in a flexible casement to serve as a switching element for electrically motivated apparatus especially as used by disabled persons. The ends of the switch are adhered to portions of a human body that may be moved relatively to each other for activation. The plastic piezoelectric element is of a particular compound nature to enhance signal strength and of a particular configuration to prevent noise and shorting at the peripheral edges. Ancillary electrical circuitry enhances signal strength, logically evaluates multiple signals and annunciates those signals audibly or electrically for relay activated switching of other devices.

  • Patent number: 4579124
Abstract: A small, portable instrument to measure oral or nasal air flow during speech for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The instrument provides a receptor at one end communicating by an elongate air passageway to a vertical measuring cylinder carrying a sphere vertically movable therein responsive to air flowing therethrough. The vertical position of the sphere in the measuring cylinder indicates amount of air flow and its change in vertical position indicates change in outflow through the receptor at any particular time. Parameters of the instrument may be varied to maintain measurements within the height limitation of the measuring cylinder, and the cylinder may be calibrated for absolute measuration.

  • Patent number: 4573707
Abstract: A unitary vehicular frame formed of composite plastic material with a medial expanded core and fiber reinforced periphery. The core material is of a lower density and may be formed homogeneously or with various non-homogeneous configurations to provide additional strength. The peripheral material is of a higher density to provide rigidity and strength both by reason of its physical nature, configuration, and spatial position. The core material comprises an in place arbor to aid the formation of the frame. The frame provides the strength, rigidity and durability of a metallic auto frame with less weight and greater insulative value, corrosion resistance and crash protection.

  • Patent number: 4574046
Abstract: A centrifugal jig to beneficiate ore by separating a heavier particulate fraction from a lighter particulate pulp. The jig provides a rotor with a vertical cylindrical jig screen rotating in a fluid filled hutch to support a vertical jigging bed. The jigging bed is pulsed sequentially as it is rotated past plural spaced pulsing elements positioned in the hutch externally of the jigging screen. Pulsing may be by pressurized air in the form of fine bubbles, by pressurized fluid or a combination of both. Pulp material is fed at the bottom of the jigging screen to move upwardly thereacross with the lighter gangue material exiting above the screen for exhaustion and the heavier mineral bearing fraction exiting through the screen for subsequent recovery from the bottom periphery of the hutch area. The jig may be used as a bedded centrifuge or in the fashion of a traditional jig especially as when provided with ragging.

  • Patent number: 4517053
Abstract: In a paper making process the liquid fraction of wood pulp stock liquor is sampled between the bleaching and caustic extraction stages and after caustic introduction to regulate the amount of caustic introduced into the pulp stock liquor. A particular sampling device with a lower pressure chamber extracts that stock liquor from the periphery of a higher pressure pipe and passes the sample to previously known continuous testing apparatus. A particular double screen type interfacing joins the sampling device and pulp stock to allow liquor extraction without excessive wear or plugging of the interface.

  • Patent number: 4437435
Abstract: A feeder to provide measured quantities of food at predetermined time intervals for animal feeding. A cylindrical base supports an annular fine timing disc for pivotable motion relative thereto and a circular storage disc, having plural food reservoirs radially spaced about its periphery, immediately thereabove. Each food reservoir is provided with valve structure in its lowermost part that opens by gravity action to sequentially discharge the contents in channels defined through the fine timing disc and the base. Driving mechanism is provided to rotate the storage disc relative to the base member to determine the period between successive good discharges and pivotable motion of the fine timing disc regulates the time of discharge within a period.
