Abstract: Sodium sulfate, the compound commonly used as a filler in detergent compositions, is in short supply, and a suitable substitute for use in detergent compositions is calcium sulfate dihydrate coated with a substantially water-insoluble calcium salt selected from the group consisting of calcium carbonate, calcium silicate, calcium sulfite, calcium orthophosphate, hydroxyapatite and a calcium salt of an alkanoic acid having about 12 to about 22 carbon atoms.
Abstract: The triamide, tri(N-alkylamides) and tri(N-alkanolamides) of 2-oxabutane-1,3,4-tricarboxylic acid are novel compounds variously having utility in the fields of (a) corrosion prevention, being particularly useful as anti-corrosion agents in lubricants; (b) sizing of textiles; and (c) lubrication, being particularly useful as lubricants in cutting oils, in textile sizing, in the manufacture of cord, rope, twine, and the like, and as general lubricating compounds.
Abstract: The invention provides emulsions, particularly margarine and low fat spreads of the water-in-oil type containing substantially non-lypolytic and non-proteolytic oxygen-consuming yeasts in a concentration of 10.sup.3 to 10.sup.7 cells per gram of emulsion, strains of Kluyveromyces lactis and Debaryomyces hansenii being particularly preferred.

Abstract: Particles of a fluidizable substance are coated with a complete and continuous coating by a process wherein a non-aqueous solution of a coating substance is sprayed from a nozzle downwardly on a fluidized bed of the particles to be coated, the nozzle height being adjusted so that the liquid droplets of coating material would just cover the cross-sectional area of the upper surface of the bed, if sprayed on the unexpanded bed. When the aforementioned coating is a fatty acid having 12-20 carbon atoms applied to particles of a chlorine-releasing agent, and when a second coating is applied by treatment with a solution of a fixed alkali hydroxide, i.e., sodium, potassium, or calcium hydroxide, an effective, completely encapsulated, non-pinholing bleach product is obtained.

Abstract: A manifold for dividing a stream of plasticised material into a plurality of sub-streams as a main channel terminating in an inwardly tapering end wall. A plurality of sub-channels are symmetrically arranged in the inwardly tapering end wall and are provided with transition passages inwardly tapering away from the main channel, adjoining transition passages intersecting to form intersection edges havin knife like edges facing the main channel. The vertex angle of the inwardly tapering end wall and of the transition passages is less than 90.degree. and where there are three or more sub-channels the end wall of the main channel merges substantially tangentially with the intersection edges. A manifold is particularly useful for dividing a main stream of heat sensitive plasticized material such as PVC into a plurality of sub-streams.

Abstract: Foodstuffs with improved flavor properties are obtained by incorporation of a diester of monothiocarbonic acid containing radicals characteristic of a flavoring thiol, a secondary or tertiary alcohol and carbonic acid.These diesters were found to be excellent precursors of flavoring thiols, releasing the thiols at a controlled rate under mild conditions.
