Abstract: Novel monoalkyl-para-dioxanes wherein the alkyl group has 5, 7 or 9-22 carbon atoms, and known monoalkyl-para-dioxanes wherein the alkyl group has 4, 6 or 8 carbon atoms are useful in perfumery, specific members finding utility as components to modify the odor of a perfume blend, or as fixatives.
Abstract: A toothpaste composition offering an improved luster to tooth enamel, comprising a mixture of alpha alumina trihydrate and precipitated amorphous silica in combination with a minor amount of anhydrous dicalcium phosphate or dicalcium phosphate dihydrate as a stabilizer.
Abstract: A creamy, buttery flavor or aroma with a pleasant note, reminiscent of bread is imparted to foodstuffs by heating them under controlled conditions in the presence of Amadori rearrangement compounds, having a melting point below 170.degree. C, of 6-deoxy-aldohexoses, such as e.g. rhamnose, and alpha-amino acids, such as e.g. proline. Frying and cooking fats, including margarine, comprising these Amadori compounds are also described.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved composition for inhibiting dental plaque and calculus formation, comprising zinc ions and a non-toxic, organoleptically acceptable antibacterial agent in an orally acceptable medium, and to a process for retarding the growth of dental plaque and calculus by application to the teeth of the above composition.
Abstract: Particulate detergent compositions which comprise a detergent compound, an alkali metal carbonate detergency builder and finely divided calcium carbonate having a surface area of at least about 5 m.sup.2 /g, are made with improved properties, by using a process in which the calcium carbonate is dispersed in water to which at least some of the detergent compound is added, after which the alkali metal carbonate is added to form a detergent slurry which is then spray-dried to form the detergent composition.
Abstract: Novel methods for preparing polycarboxylic compounds which are useful as metal sequestrants and food acidulants are disclosed. These compounds, isocitric acid, alloisocitric acid and lactones thereof, can also be neutralized to the corresponding salts, which in turn are metal sequestering agents. The novel methods for the preparation of these compounds include halogenation of propane 1,1,2,3-tetracarboxylic acid or its salts and/or the tetraester of the acid with subsequent formation of isocitric acid, alloisocitric acid and their lactones under specified pH conditions.
Abstract: The invention provides a process by which certain soil-release agents are given enhanced activity in detergent compositions by incorporating them in the composition in granules of a carrier, particularly an organic extrudable solid, throughout which the soil-release agent is uniformly dispersed.
Abstract: A new class of compounds having fabric softening properties is formed by hydroxamic betaines having the general formula R.sup.1 (R.sup.2)(R.sup.3)N.sup.+ -- R.sup.4 -- CO -- NH -- O.sup.- in which R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4 are hydrocarbon groups having 1-25 carbon atoms with the proviso that the betaine contains not more than 45 carbon atoms, at least one carbon chain of at least 12 carbon atoms and the carbon chain of R.sup.4 between the quaternary N-atom and the CO-- group is no longer than 4 carbon atoms. The compounds, which can be used in a fabric softening rinse composition as well as in a detergent composition, remain in dispersion during the washing process, but deposit onto the fabric when the pH decreases during subsequent rinsing.

Abstract: In an injection moulding process for forming hollow preforms on a mandrel which is subsequently used as a blowing pin for blowing the preforms to the final shape in a blow mould separation of the preform from the mandrel during cooling of the preform from the injection temperature is prevented by applying a vacuum to the blowing channel in the mandrel before the injection pressure is released.

Abstract: Certain substituted succinic acid compounds, particularly carboxymethyloxysuccinic acid and lactoxysuccinic acid and salts thereof are incorporated as an additive in edible materials, particularly food products. The compounds act as acidulating agents and buffering agents in food products; and the acid forms also impart a pleasant tart taste thereto. In addition, these acids and salts are essentially non-nutritive and non-caloric.
Abstract: Finely divided calcium carbonate, which is intended for use in detergent compositions containing sodium carbonate as the detergency builder, is treated before it has been dried with a water-soluble dispersing aid. This decreases the tendency of the calcium carbonate particles to aggregate and subsequently be deposited on fabrics in the washing process.

Abstract: Enzyme granules, particularly for detergent compositions, are prepared having a granule core of solid material carrying an enzyme and a solid coating of plasticized resin free of the enzyme. The plasticized resin can be dextrin or sodium lignosulphonate containing a plasticizer such as glucose, sucrose urea, glycerol or ethylene glycol. The granules are made by spraying the enzyme-containing core with a concentrated aqueous solution of the plasticized resin.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to the protection of solid precursors in powder detergent compositions using a hydrogen peroxide bleach system. The finely divided precursor is formed, with a carrier material, into a composite particle which is then coated. The coated particle gives good dispersion of the precursor in the wash liquor.
Abstract: Toilet detergent tablets having the property of softening in the soap dish to form a slimy, gel-like, mushy hydrate, and containing about 30 to about 60% sodium acyl isethionate detergent are made firmer and the tendency to form a mushy hydrate is decreased, and the rate of drying of the hydrate is increased, if there is incorporated in the bar about 10 to about 20% of sodium alkanesulfonate wherein the alkane group has 12-14 carbon atoms.
Abstract: Mixtures of C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 alkane and olefin sulphonates having better colour than mixtures of the individually produced detergent actives are prepared by subjecting an alpha-olefin feedstock to sequential sulphonation and sulphitation.
Abstract: Glycol impurities in aqueous sodium isethionate solutions are readily removed by extraction with an aliphatic alcohol containing three to four carbon atoms. The use of the purified sodium isethionate results in improved processing of detergent bars containing coconut acyl isethionate prepared by direct esterification of sodium isethionate with coconut fatty acids.
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a supported nickel catalyst in which an intimate mixture of a suspension of carrier material in aqueous nickel salt solution, a substantially water-insoluble organic base and a stronger inorganic base are used to precipitate nickel hydroxide on to the carrier material.
