Patent number: 4251898Abstract: A control valve has a first position in which it directs air under pressure to a wiper motor through a "run" line to actuate the motor to oscillate the wiper. The control valve has a second position in which it directs air through a park line to a valve complex which routes air unidirectionally to the motor to cause the wiper to assume a "park" or rest position. An overriding valve is interposed in the "park" line and is connected to the air pressure source. This valve is of the solenoid type and is intermittently operated by a timer upon its actuation to dispose the overriding valve in a first position in which the flow of "park" air through the override valve is interrupted for a brief period, to allow "run" air pressure to actuate the wiper in normal fashion, and then dispose the valve in a second position in which the "park" air is routed to the motor to temporarily halt the operation of the wiper. This sequence continues so long as the timer remains actuated.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 1979Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Assignee: Instrument Sales & Service, Inc.Inventor: Robert E. Reichard

Patent number: 4252231Abstract: The specification discloses a bottom board feeder apparatus for feeding bottom boards onto the top surface of mold boxes of varying heights. The bottom boards are supplied in succession to the apparatus by a first conveying line. The mold boxes are supplied in succession to a board receiving position adjacent the apparatus by a second conveying line. The apparatus includes a proximity sensor for detecting the height of a mold box in the board receiving position and an elevating mechanism responsive to the sensor for raising a bottom board so that the bottom surface of the board is at least as high as the top surface of the box. The apparatus also includes a shuttle mechanism for pushing the board onto the top surface of the box after the board has been raised. A control system including electrical and hydraulic circuits is provided for automatically controlling the cyclical operation of the apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1978Date of Patent: February 24, 1981Assignee: Dependable-Fordath, Inc.Inventors: Earl W. Patent number: 4249128Abstract: A transmit-receive type buried metal detector is described employing wide gating pulses to transmit a portion of the received signal through a gate means to an averaging means for reducing any noise in the signal. The gating pulses are centered on the received signal waveform at a centering position where a background signal component of such received signal is of minimum amplitude. As a result, equal positive and negative polarity portions of the background signal component are transmitted through the gate means during each pulse and are averaged to zero in order to eliminate such background signal from the output voltage of the averaging means. The background signal component may be produced by mineralized soil or by undesired metal objects located near the metal object sought to be detected. As a result, the mineral soil signal component or the background signal component of the undesired metal objects is eliminated from the output voltage of the averaging capacitor.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1978Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: White's Electronics, Inc.Inventor: James P. Karbowski

Patent number: 4248589Abstract: The specification discloses a dental syringe having a head, a tip and a releasable coupling mounted on the head. The head and tip have a corresponding number of fluid passages therethrough. The coupling includes a cylindrical base and a lock nut which screws over the base. The base and the lock nut define an axially extending bore which communicates with the passages through the head and removably receives the rearward portion of the tip. An elastomeric O-ring is positioned between the base and the lock nut and surrounds the bore. When the rearward portion of the tip is fully inserted in the bore the O-ring seats in a groove surrounding the rearward portion of the tip. When the lock nut is fully screwed over the base, deformation of the O-ring is substantially prevented and the tip cannot be withdrawn or ejected from the coupling.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 1978Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Assignee: A-DEC, Inc.Inventor: John W. Lewis

Patent number: 4248390Abstract: A rock crusher includes a rotary eccentric drive mechanism for imparting substantially linear motion to a movable jaw between a pair of fixed jaws. A driven cam shaft cooperates with a surrounding eccentric sleeve to impart this motion to the jaw. In one embodiment, the movable jaw is suspended between the fixed jaws by a pivot shaft and one such drive mechanism is employed. In another embodiment, a pair of such drive mechanisms operate together and cause the crushing motion.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1979Date of Patent: February 3, 1981Inventor: Nicolle A. Toole

Method of investigating the electrical resistivity of the ground and apparatus for use in the method
Patent number: 4246538Abstract: In a method of investigating the electrical resistivity of the ground, five electrodes are implanted in the ground at equal spacings along a straight line. An electrical current is passed through the ground between one pair of these electrodes and the potential difference between a further pair of the electrodes is measured. The electrode which is not used in this measurement is at one end of the line. A further measurement is then made with the four electrodes which exclude the electrode at the opposite end of the line. The measurements are combined to provide a measurement of apparent resistivity which is almost unaffected by a local resistivity variation.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1978Date of Patent: January 20, 1981Inventor: Ronald D. Patent number: 4245535Abstract: A portable sawmill includes a log supporting mechanism for holding a substantially horizontal log. A chain saw with a substantially horizontal effective cutting edge at least as long as the log is supported at only one end by a saw mounting assembly with the cutting edge generally parallel to the axis of the log. The saw mounting assembly is adapted for lateral movement relative to the log, as well as upward and downward movement, so that the saw can be positioned beneath a portion of the log and moved upwardly through the log to cut wood slabs. The saw is pivoted to the saw mounting assembly so that the angle between the effective cutting edge and the axis of the log can be adjusted to produce elongated wood fibers during cutting. A pivoting mechanism is provided for rotating the log between cuts so that slabs tapered from one side to the other can be cut.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1978Date of Patent: January 20, 1981Inventors: Larry D. Patent number: 4243010Abstract: A compact air-fuel mixture routing box mounted on an internal combustion engine is divided into first and second chambers by an internal diagonally positioned opening free fixed baffle. An air-fuel mixture from a carburetor mounted on top of the routing box passes downwardly through a top panel of the box and into the first chamber, along one side of the baffle, and outwardly through one side wall of the routing box to an inlet of a supercharger. The pressurized mixture from the supercharger enters the second chamber through another side wall of the box, passes downwardly along the opposite side of the baffle, and out through a bottom panel of the routing box to the intake manifold of an engine. A spring biased pressure relief valve limits the pressure of the air-fuel mixture fed to the engine.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1979Date of Patent: January 6, 1981Inventor: Robert A. Zopfi
