  • Patent number: 7636057
Abstract: Reference network embodiments are provided for use in pipelined signal converter systems. The network embodiments are fast and power efficient and they generate low-impedance reference signals through the use of a complimentary common-drain output stage, an output current valve inserted between transistors of the output stage, and a controller. The controller is configured to provide gate voltages to the output current valve to thereby establish a substantially-constant output current. The controller is further configured to provide gate voltages to the output stage to establish top and bottom reference voltages about the output current valve that are spaced from a common-mode voltage. This reference structure maintains a constant output current as the span between the top and bottom reference voltages is selectively altered. In different embodiments, transistors of the output current valve are arranged in a drain-to-source-coupled configuration and in a source-coupled configuration.

  • Patent number: 7635915
Abstract: Some embodiments provide surface mount devices that include a first electrode comprising a chip carrier part, a second electrode disposed proximate to the chip carrier part, and a casing encasing a portion of the first and second electrodes. The first electrode can extend from the chip carrier part toward a perimeter of the casing, and the second electrode can extend away from the chip carrier part and projects outside of the casing. In extending away from the chip carrier part the first electrode divides into a plurality of leads separated by an aperture that join into a single first joined lead portion with a first width before projecting outside of the casing and maintains the first width outside of the casing. The second electrode can attain a second width prior to projecting outside of the casing and maintains the second width outside the casing.

  • Patent number: 7632069
Abstract: A fluid flow-driven energy conversion system configured to oscillate in the presence of fluid flow. The system comprises an adjustable electromechanically controlled fluidfoil, a balance beam, a compensatory weight and an angle of attack positioner to adjust the angle of attack of the fluidfoil with respect to fluid flow. The fluidfoil is controlled to permit a consistently optimum angle of attack into the prevailing flow. The kinetic energy of the oscillating action is transferred to a connector for energy transfer to one of a variety of energy storage systems for converting the energy of the linear oscillating motion to other desired forms of energy.

  • Patent number: 7633317
Abstract: A high-side current sense circuit comprises a sense resistance Rsense connected in series with a signal having an associated current to be measured I, which develops voltages V1 and V2 on either side of Rsense. A differential gain stage powered by supply voltages VCC and VEE produces an output voltage which varies with the difference between its input signals. To keep the common mode portion of the input signal between voltages VCC and VEE, a voltage modification circuit subtracts or adds a common mode voltage to or from V1 and V2 to produce modified voltages V1? and V2?, which are coupled to the gain stage inputs. The voltage modification circuit is arranged to ensure that VEE?V1? and V2??VCC.

  • Patent number: 7626935
Abstract: A data bus and message handling method provide a definitive means of indicating a client-aborted message for data bus systems which employ a message protocol that requires each message conveyed between a client device and an originating device to automatically and atomically include a frame check sequence (FCS). When a message is not to be client-aborted, a ‘good’ FCS is generated by a first method, typically based on the message's data content. However, when a message is to be client-aborted, the FCS is generated by a second method which requires modifying the good FCS value to create a ‘bad’ FCS, preferably using a mathematical means that preserves the uniqueness of the bad FCS to a high degree.

  • Patent number: 7621605
Abstract: A cabinet having opposing side walls and an open, or openable, frontal area, provides a pair of arms pivotally engaged with each of the side walls. The arms are rotatable between a downwardly and rearwardly directed position and a forwardly directed position extensive of the frontal area for exposing a shelf or basket. Each of the pair of arms is engaged with slots in a guide plate fixed at one side of the shelf or basket, whereby the basket is driven linearly, by the arms, between a retracted position inside the cabinet to a frontal position, while the arms traverse the slots, and then the arms lift the basket in an arc to an extended and raised convenient height. Such movement is facilitated by a motor driven linear actuator or by pulleys rotated by drive cords or belts.

  • Patent number: 7623051
Abstract: Signal converter systems are provided which reduce degradation of system bit error rate that is caused by metastable conversion errors which generally occur when analog input signals are near reference thresholds Vth of system comparators. When operating correctly, the comparators generate a corresponding converter code when the input signals cross the threshold. Metastability, however, may cause the comparators to fail to generate the corresponding converter code. In system embodiments, logic is provided to sense the absence of comparator decisions at the end of a predetermined decision period. In response to this absence, the system is configured to substitute the corresponding converter code. In another embodiment, the system is configured to substitute the corresponding converter code when it lies outside a predetermined digital code window.

  • Patent number: 7612544
Abstract: A linearized controller to operate a switching power converter which includes an inductor having its first terminal coupled to a first voltage (V1) and its second terminal switched so that it alternately connects to a second, higher voltage (V2) or to a common terminal. A sawtooth voltage generator produces a ramp voltage (Vramp) having a period T and an amplitude which varies in response to a control voltage Vx, and a voltage comparator which compares Vramp to a control voltage Vy. The comparator output controls the switching such that T is divided into intervals t1 and t2, during which the second terminal is connected to the common terminal or to V2, respectively. When Vy is maintained in a fixed proportion to V1, V2 is driven to be in the same proportion to Vx, independently of changes in V1, providing a boost converter. A buck converter is similarly realized.

  • Patent number: 7608823
Abstract: In a multimode FPA, all of the FPA's conducting layers including all of the absorbing layers are patterned to form electrically isolated commons for at least two, and in some instances all of the photodetector sub-arrays, to support independent mode biasing of the photodetectors. Because the commons are electrically isolated, the bias voltages are not constrained by the CMOS design rules. The commons can accommodate large bias amplitude differences and different temporal bias profiles to address a wide range of multimode sensing applications.

  • Patent number: 7604479
Abstract: A dental instrument comprising a handpiece with a threaded extension and a working tool for attachment to the extension includes a wrench mounted on the distal end of the handpiece for use in attaching the tool to the extension. The wrench comprises a nose piece mounted on the front end of the handpiece, said nose piece rotateable radially about the front end of the handpiece as well as longitudinally slidable forward of the distal end of the handpiece so that an opening in a front end of the nose piece extends over the hub of the tool. Rotating the extended nose piece radially around the front end of the handpiece causes the hub of the tool to rotate, attaching the tool to the threaded extension. The nose piece is then retracted to a storage position during use of the tool.
