  • Patent number: 3956237
Abstract: Novel epoxy resin compositions are disclosed which comprise (A) an epoxy resin, (B) a latent amine curing agent for said epoxy resin, and (C) a unique class of latent accelerators corresponding to formula I ##SPC1##wherein:X is an atom of oxygen or sulfur;n is 1 or 2;R.sub.1 is lower alkyl, chloro or bromo;R.sub.2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, chloro or bromo; romo;R.sub.3 is hydrogen or an inert organic radical; orR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 or R.sub.3 can be joined to form a 5- or 6-membered carbocylic ring; and--NR.sub.4 R.sub.5 is the organic residue derived by the removal of the amino hydrogen atom from a secondary amine; With the proviso that at least one of the urea or thiourea substituents is located .alpha. on the benzene nucleus with respect to R.sub.1 ; andWith the proviso that when n is 2, I is the position isomer having the urea or thiourea substituents located .alpha.,.alpha.' on the benzene nucleus with respect to R.sub.

  • Patent number: 3947383
Abstract: Water-soluble thermosetting cationic resins having improved properties are prepared by a process wherein a small excess of epichlorohydrin is reacted with an aqueous solution of ammonia to form an intermediate resin solution, this resin solution is reacted with sufficient strong base to neutralize the ionic chloride present, then additional epichlorohydrin is reacted with the neutralized resin solution. The final resin product is useful as an additive to enhance the wet strength of paper.

  • Patent number: 3947248
Abstract: Polyester textile yarns and fabrics are normally dyed with organic pigments dispersed in water. The waste streams from this process contain residual amounts of color bodies which are removed by the instant process which comprises adding a sufficient amount of a water-soluble cationic polymer (e.g. polyethylenimine) to flocculate the color bodies.

  • Patent number: 3935269
Abstract: Novel copolymers are prepared in the novel process comprising copolymerizing an N-substituted aziridine with a vicinal epoxide or episulfide. Compounds having at least one active hydrogen, such as water or an alcohol, may be advantageously included as coreactants in the process. The structure of the copolymers, exclusive of any chain-extending or terminal groups, is defined by alternating ring-opened units of the N-substituted aziridine monomer and the epoxide or episulfide monomer. The copolymers are useful as stabilizers for chlorinated solvents, rubber cure accelerators, antioxidants, surfactants, lubricants, acid scavengers, dye-retention aids, retention aids for starch, and as flocculants.
