Abstract: A height-adjustable docking buffer is described for protecting facades when vehicles are docked in building openings. The docking buffer is made up of a fixed mounting frame and a height-adjustable buffer block for a loading ramp or a transfer bridge. The buffer block is designed as an essentially horizontal bumper bar, and includes an inflatable gasket, the ends of which are height-adjustably supported on two spaced, fixed mounting frames, preferably in the form of pillars. A method for operating the docking bar is also disclosed.
Abstract: A method for the transmission of audio signals between a transmitter and at least one receiver operates according to the prioritizing pixel transmission method. The audio signal is first broken down into a number of spectral fractions. The broken-down audio signal is stored in a two-dimensional array with a plurality of fields. The dimensions to be registered in the field are frequency and time; the value to be registered in the field is amplitude. Groups are then formed from the individual fields and a priority is assigned to the individual groups, in which the priority will be gauged as higher if the amplitudes of the group values are higher, and/or if the amplitude differences of the values of one group are higher, and/or if the groups are closer to actual time. Finally, the groups are transmitted to the receiver according to the order of their established priority.
Abstract: In order to eliminate limitation upon the frequency of a carrier wave from externally, this IC chip for identification includes: a power supply section which receives this carrier wave from outside and creates an internal power supply; a clock signal generation section for read out which generates an internal clock signal for read out based upon a clock signal pulse which is superimposed upon an optical signal from externally; a memory section; and an output section which serially reads out data in the memory section according to the internal clock signal for read out, and load modulates the carrier wave from outside based thereupon.

Abstract: A system and method to provide a user with a requisite receiving device (e.g., PDA, cell telephone) with the ability to record contact information, no matter how lengthy, from an interactive advertisement for storage and later use, or, at the user's option, to obtain the information at his or her convenience even at the location of the advertisement. The invention can work accurately in any environment, including those regions where there might be heavy traffic or congestion, and a plurality of interaction signs or posters can readily interface with the recipient's device. However, an important feature of the present invention is that the user can choose to only accept that contact information that is of interest to him or her, and does not have to automatically record and/or interact with any transmitter just because it is in the sphere of influence of the receiving device.
Abstract: The present invention discloses new live attenuated strains for oral immunization against cholera that are provided in freeze dried formulations for long term storage and administration to humans. These strains combine the two most important properties of live attenuated cholera vaccine candidates. One such property is being well tolerated by people ingesting them. This was achieved by virtue of mutations already described in the art. The second property is having enhanced environmental safety due to the absence of VGJ? DNA in their genomes and also due to null mutations in the mshA gene or other spontaneous mutations conducive to the lack of MSHA type IV fimbria on the bacterial surface. This was done envisioning that VGJ? is a filamentous phage able to recombine with CTX? and disseminate the cholera toxin genes. This VGJ? phage as well as the VGJ?-CTX? recombinants uses the MSHA fibers as receptor.

Abstract: A surface mount insulation terminal is formed of flat deformable conductive member to provide a substantially uniform U-shaped cross-section to form a wire-receiving channel. One or more piercing spikes are formed on a bottom wall of the channel and point to an opposing open side through which a conductor may be introduced. Ribs inside the channel provide an interference fit with a conductor introduced into the channel. A crimping tool lowered into engagement with the terminal after it has been soldered to a PCB increasingly deforms the side walls of the terminal inwardly towards each other and towards the bottom wall to enhance the electrical and mechanical properties of the resulting termination.

Abstract: The present invention involves a device for culturing cells on removable membranes/sponges for the purpose of transplantation. The device includes a base plate with snaps and a ring, which fits into the base plate. The membrane/sponge of choice for culturing cells is placed on the base plate and fixed by the ring, which fits tightly to the base. The device is placed inside a suitable culture vessel or receptacle and the cell suspension is added within the insert device. The cells are retained on the membrane, which enables cell attachment and proliferation. Alternatively, small tissue explants can be placed on the membrane enabling cell migration and proliferation. Cells are cultured under standard conditions with regular media changes. Following shipping to the hospitals under appropriate conditions, the insert device would be dismantled and the membrane lifted and placed at the site of transplantation.

Abstract: A measuring device for the short-wavelength X-ray diffraction for test samples or work pieces made of lower-atomic-number crystalline and a method thereof are disclosed in the present invention. The measuring device comprises: an X-ray tube, an incident diaphragm, a table, a position-restricting receiving slit for a position-restricted part of a measured sample or work piece, a goniometer, a detector and an energy analyzer, the said X-ray tube and detector are arranged in the two sides of the table on which the sample or work pieces is located, the detector is intended to receive the transmitted diffracted ray. With the short-wavelength X-ray diffraction transmission method in the present invention X-ray diffracting patterns at different depths and different parts of a thicker test sample or work piece made of crystalline material and their distribution can be obtained without destructing the test sample or work piece, and then the data are processed by a computer to obtain phase, residual stress, etc.

Abstract: The present invention involves an illuminated knitting and crochet device in the form of a hand tool easily sold as a kit with variety of sizes. A partial or full-length bounded inner region contains one or more light emitting devices, optionally actuated by a power supply source and a switch. In one embodiment a solid translucent or transparent tip is provided with a hollow needle body. In an alternative embodiment a computer control module may be optionally inserted to enable a non-use or non-motion automatic turnoff of the device thereby conserving energy for later reuse. As a consequence of the present invention those of skill in the knitting arts may freely operate within a low light or a no light knitting environment with relative ease, thereby improving knitting enjoyment.
