  • Patent number: 5803150
Abstract: The operating device comprises a drive shaft (1) driven by a geared motor unit (4) via a transmission mechanism allowing the closure element being lowered to be disengaged when a resistive force opposes the lowering thereof. The device has no brake. By contrast, it comprises a spring (8) for compensating for the weight of the closure element and the transmission mechanism (6) consists of a friction coupling and, possibly, of a one-way coupling mechanism. The absence of a brake and the weight compensation make it possible for the closure element to be raised easily and quickly by hand in an emergency, while the friction coupling allows the closure element to be driven downward by the motor.

  • Patent number: 5802120
Abstract: In a reception circuit, a frame status signal indicating whether frame synchronization is established is output from a frame synchronizing circuit to a frame counter circuit. When the frame synchronization is established, a timing signal synchronized with a reception frame pulse is output from the frame counter circuit. When the frame synchronization is not established or out of synchronization, a built-in frame counter is operated in a flywheel mode to output a timing signal to synchronize a baseband circuit and an I/F buffer circuit, so that communication with an external circuit can be kept normal irrespective of presence or absence of frame synchronization.

  • Patent number: 5801394
Abstract: A test line (12) is formed between a pair of current sypplying terminals (11). A step pattern (14) composed of polysilicon or the like is formed below the test line (12) through an inter-layer insulation film. One of two sides of the step pattern (14) that extends along the longitudinal direction of the test line (12) is positioned therebelow so as to form a step extending in a direction of the test line. Thus, since electromigration tends to easily take place, the deterioration of the semiconductor device can be precisely evaluated.

  • Patent number: 5797762
Abstract: In a mechanism for driving a plurality of pin contacts of an edge connector of a memory card assembly in a lateral direction from positions adjacent to socket contacts to bring the pin contacts into contact with the socket contacts of a card receiving connector, the mechanism comprises a pin driving plate having a cam hole and pin contact receiving holes and laterally slidably mounted on the card receiving connector. An actuator rod is removably and rotatably mounted in the card receiving connector and is provided with an eccentric pin portion engaging with the cam hole so that the pin driving plate is laterally driven by engagement between the cam hole and the eccentric pin portion when the actuator rod is rotated. Thus, the pin contacts received in the pin contact receiving holes are brought into contact with the socket contacts.

  • Patent number: 5795490
Abstract: Nitric acid is used to etch the air-bearing-surface (alumina titanium carbide) of a slider, the air-bearing-surface overcoat and adhesive layer formed thereon being worn out, sa as to reduce the optical reflectance of the region where the air-bearing-surface substrate is exposed. The air-bearing-surface of the slider is optically imaged and the resulting image processed by a computer to determine the surface area of the region where both the adhesive layer and the air-bearing-surface overcoat are worn out, having reduced optical reflectance. Then, the adhesive layer is removed by means of hydrofluoric acid treatment and etching is again done with nitric acid to create another region with a reduced optical reflectance, enabling determination of the surface area of the region over which only the air-bearing-surface overcoat is worn out.

  • Patent number: 5795070
Abstract: A thermometer includes a housing with a C-shaped window therein and a temperature scale adjacent to the window. A member within the housing has a colored or shaded region with a boundary visible through the window. The colored region is sufficiently large so that it fills the window from the lower side of the temperature scale up to the boundary. The boundary is moved relative to the temperature scale by a bimetal coil spring. The boundary and the colored region indicate the temperature being read by the thermometer. In one version of the invention, the window extends in an arc of about 180.degree., the member is a substantially planar disk, and the colored region is a semi-circular portion of the disk. The disk is mounted within the housing on a shaft, and the disk rotates relative to the shaft. The thermometer is easily readable under a variety of viewing conditions, especially adverse viewing conditions.

  • Patent number: 5791504
Abstract: A child resistant container having a container body, a ring and closure. The container body has an annular guide disposed on its neck's outer surface. The ring has an annular support disposed on its inner surface. The ring rotatably couples to the container body by sliding the ring over the container body's neck and positioning the support inside the guide. The ring has an annular protrusion on its outer surface. The protrusion is divided into segments. The closure has an annular protrusion on its wall's inner surface. The closure's protrusion is divided into segments. The closure is snapped on the ring and retained on the ring via an interlocking of the segments. The closure is removed from the ring by aligning the closure segments in a position so they will pass through the gaps in the ring protrusion.

  • Patent number: 5793898
Abstract: In a code compressing system for determining a quantizing step of a image compressing code, a second DCT calculating portion performs a DCT calculation for each element reduced and divided by a picture dividing portion. A second quantizing portion quantizes the calculated result with the maximum value of quantizing steps of an applicable system. A third quantizing portion quantizes the calculated result with the minimum value of the quantizing steps of the applicable system. A code amount controlling portion determines the difference between the code amounts generated by the second quantizing portion and the third quantizing portion for each element divided by the picture dividing portion and obtains an optimum quantizing step corresponding to the determined result, the target compressing ratio, and the target encoding bit rate. A first quantizing portion quantizes the calculated result of a first DCT calculating portion with the optimum quantizing step determined by the code amount controlling portion.
