  • Patent number: 4119265
Abstract: A single and unitary, generally rectangular blank is preferably made of corrugated cardboard, with a waterproof surface. On the corners of the blank, a pair of triangular panels are brought together, in a V-fold, and into a face-to-face contact. Then, the corner panels are folded over the ends of a box as the four sides of the rectangular blank are raised to form the side and end panels of a five-sided box. A cover panel is integrally joined to one edge of a side panel, to swing down and close the box. While the leakproof box has many uses, it is presently thought that it will primarily be used to ship frozen poultry.

  • Patent number: 4076242
Abstract: A pressurized plenum or air chamber is separated by internal walls to form slots, holes or the like. The separated chambers may be either in gas pressure communication or entirely separated from each other. Game piece manipulation devices operate a controller via these slots or holes. The upper surface of the plenum is perforated to enable the pressurized air to escape and form a boundary layer of air at the playing surface. The air pressure may be controlled, at the perforations, in order to form different zones of surface friction.

  • Patent number: 4073419
Abstract: A spool of thread, such as dental floss, is housed in a two-part shell or holder, preferably made of plastic. The floor on the bottom one of the shell parts includes a platform to provide a bearing surface for enabling rotation of the spool with a minimum of friction. The top of the upper shell part includes at least one finger which depends far enough to drag, with predetermined friction, against the top of the spool. This friction is sufficient to prevent a random unwinding of the spool and yet small enough to preclude any substantial impedance to the withdrawal of a desired amount of thread from the spool.

  • Patent number: 4072319
Abstract: A hand truck provides sturdy use for home, travel and shopping. The hand truck has a two-part tubular frame which extends for use and slides together to a compact and retracted configuration for travel. When in its opened or extended position, the frame is secured by fittings that latch together. If a force is thereafter applied to move the frame and any load placed upon it, it will not slide together to a closed position, until the closing force exceeds the holding power of the latch. When the holding power of the latch is overcome, the tubular frame easily slides into its closed or retracted and compact position. The holding power of the latch is greater than the forces acting upon the latch which randomly occur during the normal operation of pulling the cart.

  • Patent number: 4050648
Abstract: A spool of thread, such as dental floss, is housed in a two-part shell or holder, preferably made of plastic, one of the two parts having a central post coaxially located therein. The thread or floss is wound on a bobbin having a clutch molded in its hub area. The clutch comprises a split cylinder having a generally C-shaped cross section with three equally spaced ribs running along the internal length thereof. The C-shape of the split cylinder embraces the central post and the surfaces of the three ribs provided areas for friction gripping the central post. The friction keeps the bobbin from unwinding; however, the friction is not so great that it keeps the thread or floss from pulling smoothly and evenly from the bobbin.

  • Patent number: 4039134
Abstract: A message holder comprises a plastic housing having a sloping roof with a spring loaded ball detent thereunder. Paper is linearly inserted along a line representing and counter to the force of the spring bias. The ball detent moves back against the spring bias to a point where it may raise under the sloping roof and the paper passes under it. The ball is pulled forward and wedged under the sloping roof when the paper is pulled in the direction of the spring bias. The wedged ball strongly tends to prevent the paper's removal. However, the paper may be removed by sliding it sideways, or perpendicular to the line representing the force of the spring bias.

  • Patent number: 4020279
Abstract: An adjustable anamorphic transformer comprises a source of video signals, which are primarily -- but not exclusively -- images of a human brain. The video signals have their horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals separated out and then independently processed. The video signals themselves are amplified with an automatic gain control. An electronic means jointly responsive to the separately processed horizontal and vertical signals controls the gain of the video amplifier. Other electronic means separately responsive to the horizontal and vertical signals independently control, in X and Y axes, the expansion of images produced responsive to the video signals.

  • Patent number: 4014326
Abstract: A compact respirator system for use either connected to stationary outlets for breathing gas or connected as a portable unit to a tube of breathing gas. A breathing bladder and a valve block form a unit that may be disposed either with the breathing bladder in a pressure chamber for conventional respiratory operation or with the breathing bladder removed from the pressure chamber for manual actuation. A pulse transmitter actuates a pressure pulse generator for providing the pressure chamber with intermittent pulses for compressing and expanding, respectively, the breathing bladder for said conventional respiratory operation. An automatic valve keeps open a pilot pressure channel to an expiratory valve forming a portion of a pilot valve, which latter also includes a patient-triggered valve for initiating rapid breathing assistance if the patient shows signs of beginning to breathe spontaneously.
