  • Patent number: 5463988
Abstract: A valve actuating mechanism for the inlet valves E of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine has a first set of rocker arms 6 each of which actuates an inlet valve E and is actuated by a cam 2, 3, 4 for a lower engine speed range, and a second set of rocker arms 9 which are mounted between a first set of adjacent rocker arms 6 and are actuated by identical cams 8 for the higher engine speed range. The second set of rocker arms 9 is interconnected by means of a crosspiece 10. The first set of rocker arms 6 contains radially movable pistons 12 which in the higher speed range are displaced outward by oil pressure and against which the crosspiece 10 of the second set of rocker arms 9 can rest. Consequently, the valves E are actuated by the second set of rocker arms 9 as determined by the outline of the cams 8.

  • Patent number: 5452677
Abstract: A hull and backup valve assembly for a submarine includes a valve body made of the same material as the hull; thus, the valve body can be welded directly to the hull. The flow path of the valve is straight and disposed at an angle relative to the surface of the hull, facilitating the removal of the valves' components for inspection and repair. Corrosion resistance is obtained through the extensive use of clad overlays and internal barriers that completely protect the steel surfaces from seawater contact. The valve stem is made of a titanium alloy and mates directly to the rack of a hydraulic actuator, thereby further reducing the parts and volume required for the valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 5429338
Abstract: An equipment mount for isolating equipment from shock loads and acoustic vibrations has a ring-shaped base mounted to a foundation. A generally cylindrical retainer has an X-shaped cross section and a pair of contact surfaces forming the X-shaped cross section and disposed at an angle relative to the axis of the retainer. The retainer is movable relative to the base. A generally cylindrical resilient member is disposed between the base and the retainer. The resilient member includes a kick segment at either end thereof projecting outwardly at an angle relative to the axis of the resilient member and having an end contacting one of the retainer contact surfaces when free standing. The resilient member is deformable under load so that a greater portion of at least one of the kick segments contacts at least one of the retainer contact surfaces to isolate the equipment from the load.

Abstract: An apparatus for machining a square inside corner on a workpiece. The apparatus comprises a rotatable shaft, a device cooperating with the shaft for transferring the rotating motion of the shaft to transverse oscillating motion, and a cutting tool mounted to the device and moving in the transverse oscillating motion. The cutting tool preferably includes a blade contoured to produce the desired cutting surface. Both edges of the blade are cutting edges and are disposed at a 45.degree. angle. The device comprises a pin mounted on and offset from the shaft, a sliding plate to which the cutting tool is mounted, and a pair of sliding sleeves on either side of the sliding plate. The sliding plate includes an elongated slot to receiving the pin so that as the shaft rotates, the pin is moved within the slot causing the sliding plate to slide transversely within the sliding sleeves to provide the transverse oscillating motion.
