  • Patent number: 5407412
Abstract: A plurality of devices having a physiologically inert plastics outer surface and each have identical size and shape, but are of graded weights. A device is inserted into the vagina of a subject, and if the pelvic floor muscles are capable of retaining that weight, the device is replaced by a heavier one. The heaviest device that can be retained is a measure of a pelvic floor muscle strength, and the muscles can be exercised by retaining the device for a predetermined time, such as 15 to 20 minutes per day.

  • Patent number: 5407575
Abstract: The present invention comprises a two-part sorbent pad having a flat, chemically treated polyethylene foam inner core completely surrounded by a flexible, durable, chemically treated polypropylene fabric cover. In use, the sorbent pad of the present invention floats on top of petroleum covered water to rapidly soak up the petroleum or oil and hold it within the inner core until it can be removed by squeezing the sorbent pad between rollers, thereby depositing the oil into a container for storage. The non-petroleum laden sorbent pad is then returned to the surface of the petroleum covered water to pick-up more petroleum. The sorbent pad is chemically treated to increase the pads ability to attract and hold oil by both adsorption and absorption and to further increase its ability to repel water.

  • Patent number: 5404845
Abstract: A valve mechanism for an internal-combustion engine with at least two valves 1 per cylinder which can be actuated by cams 2, 7 of a camshaft 3 via rockers 4, 6. The rockers are mounted pivotally next to one another on a common fixed shaft 5, and they bear with sliding surfaces 8 against their cams. The rockers are pressed against one another by a spring 10, and their sliding surfaces 8 are aligned at least intermittently with one another and then form an essentially continuous surface. The camshaft 3 has a longitudinal channel 13 which is connected to a lubricant source and from which extends, for the lubrication of a plurality of sliding surfaces, a lubricating-oil bore 14 which opens out on the circumferential surface of a cam 7 cooperating with one of these sliding surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5392927
Abstract: Sorting apparatus for flat, stackable articles, such as CDs, micro-cassettes, video tapes or similar articles. A single article is continuously removed from a stacked stock at the bottom side of the stack, and is then coded and moved forward by pushing members of a conveyor along an horizontal path, which is inclined transverse to the direction of travel. A series of discharge stations are positioned at the lower side of said path. The code applied ensures that each article is discharged at the correct station. Characterizing features of the apparatus are:1) the slanting position of both the stock, the path of travel and the conveyor;2) the adjustable bottom construction of the stock holder in conjunction with the pushing members of the conveyor.3) the transparent first portion of the path along which the objects are moved by the conveyor with scanning means and additional printers for stickers to be applied upon the passing articles.
