  • Patent number: 5928696
Abstract: The extraction of native products is rendered difficult by the fact that attraction forces act between the liquid native products which are not water-soluble and the tissue incorporating them, and that other constituents are dissolved or present in the form of particles in suspension in the products during the extraction process. The initial substance mixture is, therefore, processed together with a water-soluble, organic solvent and optionally water to form a paste. The addition of the water-soluble, organic solvent enables the substance mixture to be separated cleanly into an aqueous phase and an organic phase in the centrifugal field, no further cleaning being necessary for the organic phase. The process according to the invention has a wide area of application. In principle, it can be applied to all substance mixtures containing liquid, organic substances, in particular to vegetable and animal tissue.

  • Patent number: 5926528
Abstract: Call pacing method in which agent availability and call answers are based on probability statistics and the allowable maximum abandon rate. A weight is assigned each agent engaged in a call or in after-call work. This weight is a function of how long an agent has been engaged in a call or in after-call work, the duration of a time window for which a prediction that the agent will be free is made, and the maximum allowable abandon call rate. The sum of the weights is the predicted number of engaged agents that will become free. The time window is independent of the interval between the dial of a call and when the call is expected to be answered and is automatically adjusted by the system; lengthened when the abandon call ratio falls below the acceptable ratio and shortened when the ratio rises above the acceptable ratio.

  • Patent number: 5926581
Abstract: In a method for generating a model of terrain, images of the terrain are generated at different angles. Matching points in the images are identified and from these matching points, the coefficients of a registration mapping equation are determined. A height term of the registration matching equation is corrected for scaling and shear into an elevation term in the coordinates of one of the images. The elevation is rotated into the coordinates of the ground plane of the terrain to provide a digital elevation model of the terrain. Interpolation is carried out through the digital elevation model to provide a three-dimensional model of the terrain. In a system for measuring the accuracy of a registration mapping equation, first and second images are generated from a digital elevation model. The registration mapping equation being tested is applied to the images to generate an estimated digital matching function which is compared with the actual registration matching function for the two images.

  • Patent number: 5922651
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a superconductive thin film formation method of forming a superconductive thin film having a high critical temperature and a low surface resistance. The method comprises a first step of depositing a superconductive thin film layer on a substrate under a first condition. The superconductive thin film layer has a thickness smaller than that of the superconductive thin film. The method further comprises a second step of introducing oxygen under a second condition. The method further comprises a third step of depositing a superconductive thin film layer on the previously deposited superconductive thin film layer under the first condition and fourth step of introducing oxygen under the second condition. The method further comprises a fifth step of repeating the third and fourth steps until the sum of the thicknesses of the superconductive thin film layers is substantially equal to the predetermined thickness of the superconductive thin film.

  • Patent number: 5920164
Abstract: The armature coils of a brushless linear motor are cast in resin to form an armature plate. A heat sink is attached along one edge of the plate with conductive pins (e.g. aluminum pins) extending through the plate and into the heat sink. Fans, attached to the heat sink, draw air across it in order to remove heat by convection. A wireless communications link transmits commutation data and/or armature position data to a motor controller.

  • Patent number: 5918200
Abstract: In a state estimating apparatus, an input space quantization section quantizes an input space according to a required precision of output data. A storage section calculates and stores the number of times of occurrence of output data corresponding to each input event in the quantized input space, the mean values of the output data, and the change amounts of the output data. A neighborhood definition section calculates an input space neighborhood satisfying the required precision of the output. A similar case extraction section zooms up the predetermined neighborhood of the input space to the predetermined degree and extracts input case similar to the neighborhood from input case in the input space. A similarity determination section determines the similarity between the new input event and the extracted similar input cases on the basis of the degree of zooming.

  • Patent number: 5912730
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for analyzing an unknown material, the spectra of absorption and remission coefficients are determined by means of equations relating to remission, absorption and transmission fractions through layers of material of different thicknesses in accordance with a discontinuum theory. To determine the concentration of an absorber in an unknown material, the absorption coefficients are determined for the unknown material and for samples of known material. The concentrations of absorbers in the unknown material are determined from the absorption coefficients by regression analysis.

  • Patent number: 5912640
Abstract: An estimate of the time of the boost engine cut-off of a missile is provided by irradiating the missile after it is launched with continuous wave signals. The reflected continuous wave signals are detected and an inflection in the Doppler measurements of the reflected continuous wave signals provide an initial estimate of the boost engine cut-off time. A Kalman filter is used to provide initial estimates of the position and velocity of the missile at the boost engine cut-off time and a square root information filter responding to the Doppler measurement residuals after boost engine cut-off reduces the error in the initial estimate of the boost engine cut-off time to a minimum.

  • Patent number: 5909978
Abstract: In a marking pen, the body of the marking pen containing the cartridge is made air tight except for the opening on the distal end to receive the marker nib and a vent hole. The walls of the pen body are made flexible and the vent hole is provided through the flexible walls near the distal end so that the cavity containing the cartridge can be pressurized by squeezing the body between the thumb and index finger, with the index finger covering the vent hole. The pressuring of the cartridge cavity applies hydraulic pressure to the nib to flush the nib with ink or unclog it.

  • Patent number: 5907690
Abstract: In a control system for controlling a very large number of remotely located input and output devices there is provided a novel control system having a single CPU coupled through a host interface module to a data and control transmission line. The host interface module on the transmission line receives information from and transmits information to a plurality of secondary interface modules having node addresses. The information being transmitted on the control and data transmission line is formatted to comprise one or two data bytes, an address and command byte, and an error checking byte to permit operation in a noisy electrical environment. Each said interface modules is further provided with high speed logic and an address counter for identifying node addresses and carrying out the commands and transmission of data without the requirement for software or firmware.

  • Patent number: 5907601
Abstract: A "look-ahead" calculation projects what would be the effect on the abandon rate if several additional abandons happened to occur. The method uses the result of this "look-ahead" calculation of a projected abandon rate to modify its estimation of the number of ringing dials that will or will not result in an answer. If the projected abandon rate indicates the abandon rate is sensitive to an increase in the number of abandons, the method increases the estimate of those ringing calls which are likely to answer by up to two and one-half times the "average", depending on the degree of sensitivity. If the sensitivity forecasts little danger of exceeding the set abandon rate, the method decreases the estimate of ringing calls that will answer by up to one-half. In the former case, dialing is slowed down and in the latter, dialing is speeded up. Both cases have the advantage to "looking ahead" rather than simply reacting to events that may not be quickly correctable once they have occurred.

  • Patent number: 5901148
Abstract: A server, and a number of client stations interconnected by a token ring network, specifically an FDDI-II network. The FDDI-II ring is connected in a star-ring topology, with the server and the clients preferably connected to the network through a wiring closet, as is the usual practice for such a topology. The server has separate physical connections to the single FDDI-II ring with each physical connection to the ring providing access to a separate physical domain. This partitions the same ring into different physical domains, so that an increase in the total effective bandwidth of the network is achieved by the server reallocating the same isochronous bandwidth in each of the domains for reuse by the server. An allocation of bandwidth in an isochronous channel in one domain can be reused by the server in another physical domain.
