Patent number: 5901148Abstract: A server, and a number of client stations interconnected by a token ring network, specifically an FDDI-II network. The FDDI-II ring is connected in a star-ring topology, with the server and the clients preferably connected to the network through a wiring closet, as is the usual practice for such a topology. The server has separate physical connections to the single FDDI-II ring with each physical connection to the ring providing access to a separate physical domain. This partitions the same ring into different physical domains, so that an increase in the total effective bandwidth of the network is achieved by the server reallocating the same isochronous bandwidth in each of the domains for reuse by the server. An allocation of bandwidth in an isochronous channel in one domain can be reused by the server in another physical domain.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1997Date of Patent: May 4, 1999Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventors: Ronald A. Patent number: 5886247Abstract: Apparatus and a method for detecting the presence of a predetermined target gas (e.g. CO) is disclosed. The gas has a predetermined pattern of peaks of absorbance to radiation lying within a particular radiation range (e.g. infrared), the absorbance peaks alternating with gaps in which the gas transmits the radiation. A source (12) passes IR radiation through a comb filter (5) and a measurement cell (22) containing the target gas. The comb filter (5) has successive passbands separated by absorbance gaps. The passbands of the comb filter are repeatedly shifted relative to the IR radiation between a correlation position in which they coincide with at least some of the absorbance peaks of the target gas and an anti-correlation position in which the passbands coincide with at least some of the absorbance gaps of the gas.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Assignee: Forney CorporationInventor: Michael David Rabbett

Patent number: 5874916Abstract: A digital signal processing system for obtaining accurate time delay of arrival (TDOA) and frequency delay of arrival (FDOA) measuremets of a signal of interest in a dense interfering signal environment is provided. A time series of cross-spectra (called a waterfall in the art) are computed from transforms applied to overlapping data sets comprising two received digital data streams, which include the signal from an emitter of interest and one or more partially overlapping interfering signals. For each cross-spectra frequency, a transform is calculated in the time direction to create a frequency difference of arrival dimension. Regions within the transformed cross-spectrum that are associated with individual emitters are then identified based on the fact that a given emitter's transformed cross-spectrum phase changes linearly with frequency near the peak FDOA for the emitter.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1996Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventor: Gerard A. Patent number: 5872642Abstract: The present invention discloses a system for processing data from scanned documents. The output from a scanner serves as input to a digital filter referred to as an event driven interface. The event driven interface is user-configured with bit patterns to identify and filter out user-designated information from a scanned document. Since only the designated information is extracted from the document, and not extraneous matter of the document, the subsequent storage of only the designated information saves computer memory. Furthermore, the designated information can be transmitted over a data communications network. Such a transmission will occupy less bandwidth than if the entire document was transmitted.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1996Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventors: James R. Patent number: 5869158Abstract: A fluid transfer device has a resilient reservoir connected to a rigid hollow punch made of synthetic resin. The punch is precisely sized to enable manual penetration of rubber stoppers found on standard evacuated tubes which are commonly used for blood sampling. The diameter of the punch also allows for transfer of the fluid from the sample tube to the device in a reasonable amount of time. A method of transferring blood or blood products from the sample tube to testing apparatus involves using the device to penetrate a rubber cap on an evacuated tube and then transfer the blood to the device. The blood can then be transferred to a testing apparatus without exposure to the atmosphere.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1992Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: Porex Technologies Corp.Inventor: Michael W. Patent number: 5867479Abstract: A digital signal processing system for multiplexing/demultiplexing a large number of closely spaced FDM channels in which sub-band definition filtering divides the FDM spectral band comprised of "N" channels into "K" sub-bands in order to reduce the dimension of the polyphase filter fast Fourier transform structure required to complete the multiplexing/demultiplexing. This reduces the order of the required prototype filter by a factor proportional to K. The number of sub-bands K is chosen so that it is large enough to ensure the polyphase filter, fast Fourier transform structure for each sub-band is realizable within a finite word length, fixed point arithmetic implementation compatible with a low power consumption. To facilitate efficient sub-band definition filtering, the real basebanded composite signal is inputted at a spectral offset from DC equal to one quarter the FDM channel bandwidth for the N channels and the signal is sampled at a frequency 50% greater than the applicable Nyquist rate.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventor: Thomas C. Patent number: 5867559Abstract: In a call verification system, a telephone switch conference bridge couples the agent/client conversation to a multi-processor sound-and-screen server, which digitally stores the agent-client conversation. When the agent completes inputting data to the client record, at least the updated portion of the client record is also coupled to the sound-and-screen server. The sound-and-screen server includes a data base manager that correlates storage of the client record with the conversation recording. In the verification operation, the sound and screen server operating in a multi-processing mode can fetch a conversation recording and the corresponding transaction record from memory while simultaneously recording new conversations and their associated records.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1996Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: EIS International, Inc.Inventors: Jacob W.
