Abstract: A hydraulic expansion chuck for chucking a tool such as a boring tool, a milling cutter, or other cutting tool. The hydraulic expansion chuck has an expansion bushing which can be deformed radially under the action of a pressure fluid contained in a pressure chamber to chuck a tool. Pressure is transmitted to the pressure chamber from a pressure generating unit via an annular gap positioned about the chuck axis.
Abstract: A machining tool, such as a ballnose end mill, a flat end mill, or a drill, which has a center area that is designed for improved ejection of chips produced during cutting of a workpiece. The machining tool has an edge on the end or tip of the tool starting proximate to the central rotational axis of the tool at a position located a distance above the x axis and to the right of the y axis.
Abstract: A metal cutting system with a tool holder, a shim, an insert with a top depression, a top piece and a clamp. A rake face cooling channel for fluid delivery is formed between the top piece and the depression in the insert. A primary discharge slot at the end of the rake face cooling channel delivers fluid from below the cutting edge of the insert. A second cooling channel for delivery of fluid to the flank face is formed between the insert and the shim or is formed between the shim and the tool holder with a portion of the cooling channel passing through the shim.

Abstract: A milling cutter head has a base body rotatable about a longitudinal axis and formed with axially extending seats, respective blade holders axially shiftable in the seats, respective blades welded to the blade holders and each having a cutting edge, and respective wedges shiftable in the base body and engaging the blade holders, whereby the wedges can adjust axial positions of the respective blades. A clamp can fix the blade holders in the body. The cutting edge of at least one of the blades is angled and has relative to the axis a long radially outer part and a short radially inner part angled relative to the respective outer part by 3° to 7° so that the two parts form an angle of 177° to 173°.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a helical drill configuration that allows substantially flat bottomed holes to be machined. At the cutting end of the body member, there are at least two cutting edges that are symmetrically oriented on opposing sides of the rotational axis of the drill. In an embodiment of the invention, first and second cutting edge portions form a continuous surface which provides strength and tool stability. The height of the second portions of each of the cutting edges remains relatively consistent along the horizontal for formation of a generally flat bottom hole. In the embodiment, a center point is defined by two sloped peak surfaces. A central straight chisel edge is formed by the intersection of the two sloped peak surfaces. The first cutting edge section extends from the chisel edge to the second cutting edge section. The first cutting edge section for both cutting edges is formed by symmetrically thinning the two peak surface.

Abstract: A micro-adjustable differential screw assembly for providing fine adjustment of the axial and/or radial position of a cutting insert is disclosed. The micro-adjustable differential screw assembly can be mounted directly to a boring bar or to a mounting cartridge, which in turn, can be mounted to the boring bar. An axial micro-adjustable differential screw assembly provides fine adjustment of an axial position of the cutting insert, while a radial micro-adjustable differential screw assembly provides fine adjustment of a radial position of the cutting insert. The differential screw assembly includes a rotatable drive screw with threads of different thread pitches, and a non-rotatable adjusting screw with threads for mating with the drive screw.
Abstract: A finishing device for finishing the exterior, flutes and tip of a drill bit is disclosed. The finishing device includes a containment vessel which houses an abrasive media which may have a visco-elastic component and an abrasive component. The drill bit is inserted into or through the abrasive media and rotated. A rotary member may be connected to the shank of the drill bit to provide rotation of the drill bit. The drill bit displaces the abrasive media thereby finishing the exterior, flutes, cutting edges and tip of the drill bit.
Abstract: An indexable, helical cutting insert has multiple cutting edges. In tone configuration, the cutting insert includes four helical cutting edges. In another configuration, the cutting insert includes eight helical cutting edges. In any configuration, the cutting insert may include at least one axial clearance slash extending from a bottom surface to one of the side walls forming a wiper on an edge of the axial clearance slash. In any configuration, the cutting insert may include at least one inside cutting edge that extends outwardly a distance from the side wall. The helical cutting insert may also include at least one progressive cutting edge and/or at least one helical cutting edge that is curved inwardly to enable the cutting insert to perform machining operations on cutters having different diameters.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for obtaining a determined flow resistance of a flow channel, especially an opening in a component. The method involves the following steps: a liquid flows through the flow channel; a characteristic depending on the flow resistance of the flow channel in the component is determined; and the flow channel is machined by means of a working method until said characteristic reaches a pre-determined nominal value.
