  • Patent number: 6522250
Abstract: A message filtering system is provided for filtering generally broadcast messages received by a movable unit. The generally broadcast message includes an information segment including location, time and/or velocity information relating to an event of potential interest to the unit which has occurred in the past and which has continuing consequences for the unit. The movement history of the unit is stored along with data selection information and a determination is made as to whether the information contained in the broadcast information segment is of interest based on this stored information.

  • Patent number: 6522788
Abstract: The imaging apparatus comprises a detector constituted by a two-dimensional matrix of opto-electronic sensors and by correction means for correcting the output signals in order to compensate for the differences between the response characteristics of the various sensors by applying respective offset values and stored gains thereto. An optical plate is temporarily interposed on the inlet beam, which plate is sufficiently diffusing to make the illumination received from the observed scene uniform over all of the sensors. The offset value for each sensor is calculated from the output signals of the sensors while they receive the uniform illumination, taking the stored gains into account.

  • Patent number: 6516885
Abstract: A water shut-off is provided in a hydrocarbon well by injecting a first chemical composition, effective as a relative permeability modifier polymer, into the hydrocarbon and a water zone of the well followed immediately by the injection of a second chemical composition, which forms a flow blocking polymer composition, into the zones and, after a shut-in period for reaction of the relative permeability modifier polymer, back producing the polymer compositions from they hydrocarbon zones to provide a path for the hydrocarbons from the zones while allowing the flow blocking polymer compositions to form the water shut-off in the water zones.

  • Patent number: 6517684
Abstract: Method of manufacturing articles from an aqueous fibre suspension, by deposition of fibres on a suction mould (2), comprising the steps of: applying suction to the suction mould, supplying a fibre suspension to the mould by immersing the suction mould in a vat (5) containing the fibre suspension, raising the suction mould from the fibre suspension, flowing ambient air by said suction through an article formed by a layer of fibre material deposed on the suction mould, characterised by the steps of: providing a substantially hermetically sealed space over the article or articles on the suction mould, supplying a de-watering fluid to the sealed space, and flowing substantially exclusively the de-watering fluid through the article or articles.

  • Patent number: 6514754
Abstract: Various genes of herpes virus of turkeys (HVT), Marek's disease virus (MDV) and infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) have been identified as non-essential regions (and candidates for insertion sites for foreign genes) and/or as antigen-encoding regions. The former include the HVT homologue of the HSV (herpes simplex virus) gC gene, the TE (thymidine kinase) region of MDV or ILTV, ORF3 of ILTV (as defined herein), the ribonucleotide reductase (large subunit) gene of ILTV, MDV or HVT and the ribonucleotide reductase (small subunit) gene of MDV. The antigen-encoding regions include the HVT homologues of the HSV gB, gC and gH genes, the ILTV homologue of HSV gB, ORF2 of ILTV, and the HVT homologue of the HSV-1 immediate early genes IE-175 and IE-68. Manipulation of these genes allows vaccines to be prepared comprising attenuated virus or virus carrying heterologous antigen-encoding sequences.

  • Patent number: 6513825
Abstract: A coupling arrangement between a trailer and a pulling vehicle wherein the pulling vehicle includes a first coupling plate on which the corresponding second coupling plate of the trailer is placed for obtaining locked coupling. The plates have low friction surfaces allowing the second plate to rotate on the first plate. The plates are locked to each other by a vertical pin fixed to the second coupling plate. The first coupling plate includes an open groove for the pin to get into the locking position in the end of the groove. The coupling arrangement further includes a movable locking part fixed to the second plate and being able by means of a spring to move into the groove of the first coupling plate when the plates are rotating in relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 6515749
Abstract: A chemical sensor is provided which includes an optical resonator including a nanostructured surface comprising a plurality of nanoparticles bound to one or more surfaces of the resonator. The nanoparticles provide optical absorption and the sensor further comprises a detector for detecting the optical absorption of the nanoparticles or their environment. In particular, a selective chemical interaction is provided which modifies the optical absorption of the nanoparticles or their environment, and an analyte is detected based on the modified optical absorption. A light pulse is generated which enters the resonator to interrogate the modified optical absorption and the exiting light pulse is detected by the detector.

  • Patent number: 6505677
Abstract: When casting metal articles in a mould by forcing molten metal upwardly through a filling tube by gas pressure in a closed chamber, the datum level just below that of a connector connecting the filling tube to the mould is registered by a level sensor in a sensing tube while the latter's upper end is connected to atmosphere through a vent tube. At the same moment, the pressure is measured by a pressure sensor and recorded by a control unit and maintained constant by the latter after the emptying of the sensing tube, by connecting its upper end to the chamber through an equalizing tube, until the pressure is increased to fill the mould according to a predetermined function of time programmed into the control unit. The starting point for the filling of all moulds in succession is the same, regardless of the amount of metal in the supply unit.
