Abstract: A microwave oven using a dual clock allows a microcomputer to have two operation modes, preserves a memory data of a microwave oven in case of a power failure, and minimizes a power-consumption of a battery. The microwave oven having a power-supply part, a load driver and a display part includes an oscillation part for generating many clocks having a different frequency, a control unit for setting at least one among many clocks from the oscillation part as an operation clock according to a power-supply of the power-supply part; and an auxiliary power-supply part for providing a power-supply to the control unit if the power-supply part does not generate a power-supply. If a power-supply is normally applied to a microwave oven, a dual mode is set, and a general mode of using the main clock and the sub clock as an operation clock is set. If a power-supply is not provided to a microwave oven, the main clock is turned off, a power-saving mode of using the sub clock as an operation clock is set.

Abstract: Processes are provided for the preparation of orally administrable, yellow and powdery compositions essentially consisting of particles composed of a homogeneous mixture of an amorphous Cefditoren pivoxil substance with a water soluble high-molecular additive. These compositions can be produced by dissolving crystalline Cefditoren pivoxil substance and the water-soluble high-molecular additive in an aqueous solution of an acid, then neutralizing the resultant solution, to co-precipitate the product, and drying the thus precipitated product, followed by recovering the product in the form of the above-mentioned particles.

Abstract: A diving mask, in particular to fit optical glasses, including a face of elastomeric material, provided with at least one opening, and a stiff body having at least one seat to house a glass or lens. Watertight elements are provided between the lens or glass and the seat, and a framework holds the lens or glass in the seat. Along a substantial part of the peripheral edge of the stiff body, on a plane substantially parallel to the plane of the lens or glass, guiding means are formed for the insertion of the framework into the seat.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for measuring convergence of the Red-Green-Blue (R.G.B.) signals of a color cathode ray tube (CRT) using a color charge coupled device (CCD) camera. A uniform R.G.B. brightness value is picked up by the color CCD camera at all positions of the CRT screen when the color CCD camera images the screen, thus enabling convergence to be more accurately measured and adjusted. Test patterns having a constant R.G.B. brightness value are displayed on the screen of the CRT by a pattern generator. The displayed test patterns are picked up by the color CCD camera, and when the R.G.B. brightness values differ from a corresponding reference brightness value, a controller adjusts the intensity of each of the R.G.B. signals of each test pattern by suitably controlling the pattern generator. A uniform R.G.B. brightness value is thus provided for all test patterns displayed on the CRT screen. Only after the R.G.B.

Abstract: Sodium percarbonate is traditionally made in a crystallization process from aqueous hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate with recycle of mother liquor in the presence of a substantial concentration of a salting out agent, conventionally sodium chloride. The invention provides a process intended to be conducted without addition of chloride salting-out agent in which the dissolution step is controlled to restrict the sodium carbonate concentration to below 95%, preferably 60 to 90% of its saturated concentration at a temperature preferably controlled to at most 35C. and the mole ratio of hydrogen peroxide:sodium carbonate in the reaction vessel is controlled to between 0.7 to 1.2:1, and preferably about 1:1.

At least two of the guide columns (5) are journalled in a number of guides (7) connected to a fixed part of the apparatus close to the position of the front yoke (4) in the compacting position and the pull yoke (6) is provided with at least one guide (8) journaled on guide columns (9) connected to fixed parts of the apparatus.

Abstract: An apparatus for threshing tobacco includes a rotatable stripper and a feeder which includes a pair of cooperating counter-rotatable elements for delivering tobacco leaves to the stripper. The feeder and the stripper are arranged such that, in use, the tobacco leaves experience shearing forces as they pass from between the counter-rotating elements to the rotating stripper. These forces at least partially strip the lamina from the stems.

Abstract: A Compton imager and method are provided for generating three-dimensional images. The Compton imager detects Compton scattering of simultaneously or nearly simultaneously emitted gamma rays produced by a radio-nuclide. A possible location of each radio-nuclide decay is defined by the intersection of Compton direction cones corresponding to the detected gamma rays. Three-dimensional images are generated by superposition of individual locations of separate radioactive decay locations.

Abstract: A baby's bib comprises a body portion (2) of a semi-rigid plastics material in which is formed an opening (14) for the baby's neck, a bead (16) of a plastics material softer than that of the body portion (2) being secured around part at least of the opening (14), the attachment of the bead (16) to the body portion (2) being such as to permit radial compression of the bead (16) but to prevent longitudinal extension of the bead (16).

Abstract: In the described device a wire (18), which is fed in by a wire guide (20), is wound on a shaping body (10) provided with recesses (16), of a rotatably driveable template (10, 12) and, in the course of the rotation of the latter, is cyclically pushed into the recesses (16) by radially movable outer shaping elements (12). Subsequently the wave-shaped wire windings are transferred into longitudinal slits of a coil receiver (34), which is positioned axially in front of the shaping body (10) and is essentially maintained fixed against relative rotation during the winding movement. Abstract: A sliding device for a storage case is provided which is durable and provides a smooth sliding motion even in environments, such as those encountered in a refrigerator, wherein the storage case is subjected to humid, cold (below the freezing point) conditions. The sliding device comprises a fixed rail fixedly mounted to an inner side surface of the storage case and having a roller coupling portion in which a first set of rollers are rollably received; a movable rail fixedly mounted to an outer side surface of the storage container and having a roller coupling portion in which a set of second rollers are rollably received; and a middle rail which is slidably mounted between the fixed rail and the movable rail so as to provide a coupling relationship therebetween which guides the rolling motion of the first and second rollers. The fixed rail, the movable rail and the middle rail, as well as the rollers, are made of an injection molded plastic.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for obtaining a preparative-scale, free-fluid electrophoretic separator with high resolution as well as an analytical capability commensurate with capillary zone electrophoresis. The electrophoretic focusing apparatus and method of the present invention combines features of electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing to accomplish large scale purifications and fractionations that have not previously been possible, and features a separation chamber bounded by precision-pore, insulated screens, a plurality of purge chambers, a plurality of electrode chambers, and a plurality of pump means. The separation device of the invention is capable of high speed of separation and short residency of sample through the use of high voltage gradients which are produced by relatively low voltages applied across the narrow chamber dimensions.

Abstract: The invention provides a method of potentiating the activity of antibacterial agents that act on bacterial cell walls, comprising the step of administering to a subject an antibacterial agent and an aminoglycoside to attain a peak concentration of at least 4 mg/l of aminoglycoside and thereafter maintaining the aminoglycoside at a concentration of up to 4 mg/l for at least 1 hour. Compositions comprising an antibacterial agent and an aminoglycoside for efficacious treatment of bacterial infection are also provided.

Abstract: The invention concerns an actuator (21) comprising a pre-stroke rod (29) which can be fixed to the tool body, for example soldering pliers. Thus by pressurising the pre-stroke chamber (27) the working rod (34) for closing the pliers can be brought into an intermediate small opening position, the working piston (31) and the amplifying pistons (36 and 37) remaining retracted in the actuator. Since the rod (29) can then be locked relative to the actuator body (21), pressurisation of the working chamber (32) and the amplifying chambers (38 and 40) will then cause the working rod to be extracted (34) and the soldering pliers to be closed without any recoil from the actuator body.

Abstract: A navigation and routing system for a domain to be navigated and including a plurality of nodes comprising, at each node, a passive element the identity of which is unique to the address of the associated node, and an active navigation device programmed with an electronic map of the domain and capable of receiving information from the passive elements, the arrangement being such that, for any given destination within the domain, and on reading of the passive element at a first node by the navigation device, routing information is displayed by the navigation device to direct the user to the next node in the route leading to his destination.
