Abstract: Polycarbonates are provided with hydrolytic stability by combining the polycarbonate polymer with a carboxylic acid salt of cadmium. The cadmium salt provides improved hydrolytic stability to both polycarbonates based on diphenols and halogenated diphenols over conventional stabilizers, and does not detrimentally affect other properties such as color stability, haze, initial tensile strength and elongation.
Abstract: The present invention relates to thermally cross-linkable coating compositions which are liquid and stable in storage at room temperature and which contain combinations of dialkyl-malonate-blocked polyisocyanates and organic polyhydroxyl compounds as binders and, optionally, auxiliaries and additives, being characterized in that the binder comprises:(a) a polyisocyanate component containing dialkyl-malonate-blocked isocyanate groups and a content of blocked isocyanate groups, expressed as NCO, based on the weight of the polyisocyanate component excluding the weight of the blocking agent, of from about 3 to 33.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the production of specific polyisocyanates by reacting diamines containing hydrogen atoms which are active in the context of the isocyanate addition reaction with excess quantities of organic diisocyanates. The invention also relates to a modification of the above process characterized in that the diamines are reacted first with excess quantities of a first diisocyanate after which the thus obtained reaction product which contains a urea group and a biuret group is reacted in a second stage with a second diisocyanate. The invention also relates to the use of polyisocyanates as the isocyanate component in the production of polyurethane plastics by the isocyanate-polyaddition process.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to the processes for producing polycarbonates from specific crude bisphenols. The bisphenols are characterized in that immediately after their preparation they are subjected to (i) separation, of excess phenols and low-boiling substances, by means of an evaporator, and (ii) removal of monophenols by desorption. The invention also relates to high-molecular weight aromatic polycarbonates made of crude bisphenols and their use in a variety of applications.
Abstract: The present invention relates to lacquer polyisocyanates which contain about 0 to 8% free isocyanate groups, about 10 to 28% blocked isocyanate groups and about 2 to 10% of the structural units, --NH--NH--CO--O, all percentages based on the weight of the polyisocyanates, but excluding the weight of the blocking agent. Also provided is a process for preparing these polyisocyanates which comprises reacting about 10 to 30 mol % of the isocyanate groups of an organic polyisocyanate with reaction products which have (i) alcoholic hydroxyl groups and (ii) structural units of the formula, --O--CO--NH--NH--CO--O--, and/or of the formula H.sub.2 N--NH--CO--O--, with the formation of urethane groups and optionally groups corresponding to the formula, --NH--NH--CO--O--, and reacting about 50 to 90 mol % of the isocyanate groups of the organic polyisocyanate with a blocking agent.

Abstract: This development is concerned with an improved process of preparing polycarbonate molding compositions and molded articles having superior hydrolysis resistance, stress crack resistance and flame retardancy, by thermoplastically processing a partially crosslinked aromatic polycarbonate. A crosslinkable aromatic thermoplastic polycarbonate is subject to irradiation to cause crosslinking on its surface such that between about 5 and 50 wt. % of the polymer is crosslinked and it is then thermoplastically processed. This partially crosslinked polycarbonate may be blended with uncrosslinked thermoplastic aromatic polycarbonate or known flame retardant agents. This development is also concerned with the compositions or articles so produced.

Abstract: Process for the production of sheet products having a suede-like surface by application of a coating paste to a matrix whose surface has the structure of a negative of suede or suede-like materials, solidification of the coating by heating, stripping of the solidified coating from the matrix and, optionally, laminating it to a textile material, characterized in that:(a) a coating paste of a two-component system which does not harden to a polyurethane urea until heated, which system is based either on a blocked isocyanate prepolymer and a polyamine or on an isocyanate prepolymer and a complex of an alkali metal halide and an aromatic polyamine and, optionally, up to about 40% by weight, preferably less than about 30% by weight, more preferably less than about 25% by weight, and most preferably less than about 15% by weight, of solvent, so that the coating paste has a viscosity of at the most about 100,000 mPa.s at room temperature, is applied;(b) the coating is heated to a temperature of from about 30.degree.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to light stable polyisocyanate adduct mixtures with an average functionality greater than 2.0 and an isocyanate content of between about 4 and 19 percent by weight based on solids, which has good compatibility with apolar solvents and good storage stability in a solution of polyisocyanate solvents. Alternatively, both the saturated hydrocarbon chain and the polarity inducing group may be present in the same monohydroxy compound. The present invention is additionally directed to the use of the polyisocyanate adduct mixtures in the process of curing alkyd or acrylic resins and to compositions containing the adduct mixture and alkyd or acrylic resins.
