  • Patent number: 7914565
Abstract: A handheld appliance suitable for skin treatment and/or personal care operations comprises an applicator structure having a thermally conductive element supported so as to be exposable to controlled release of pressurized fluid within a gas-expansion chamber. The just-expanded gas causes an endothermic reaction in which heat is removed from the applicator. The applicator is usable to then draw heat energy from skin, etc. When applied to skin, a numbing effect is experienced which can ease pain associated with depilation, discomfort associated with exfoliation, be useful in treating wounds, etc.

  • Patent number: 7914402
Abstract: The Present invention is a portable apparatus for use in practice drills and educational settings which returns soccer balls to a kicker in a controlled manner. The invention utilizes an upwardly inclined net which directs a ball upwards into an energy absorbing pocket rather than immediately rebounding the ball back to the kicker. The pocket then absorbs the energy of the ball and then sends the ball back down to the kicker in a controlled manner. The goal of the invention is to increase the user's accuracy and to allow for increased amounts of kicks as the controlled return allows for less reset time between kicks.

  • Patent number: 7908367
Abstract: A call processing system (10) and method are disclosed. The connection status between a node (40) and a data communications network (20) is monitored. The node (40) is arranged to receive calls over the data communications network. Monitoring is by the call processing system (10). Rather than only performing a call connection when the called node is identified as being available as in conventional systems, if the call processing system (10) determines that the node (40) has been disconnected from the data communications network for a first predetermined period of time, the call processing system (10) is arranged to wait a second predetermined period of time before indicating non-availability of the node. In this way, unavailability determinations are reduced and call connection requests are processed even in situations in which the node (40) has been disconnected during the first period of time.

  • Patent number: 7908032
Abstract: A robot has a plurality of limbs with joints; a driving section for driving the joints periodically to form periodic movements on a floor by means of the plural limbs; and a controller capable of performing various operations. The operations include detecting over time floor reaction forces received through the plural limbs contacting the floor during the periodic movement; deriving a center position of the floor reaction forces received from ground contacting limbs during movement and a change in the center position over time; calculating desired angles of the plural joints directly based on the derived current center position, without deriving a desired center position indicating the center position at a future time, controlling the plural joints based on the calculated desired angles; and driving the robot with the controlled plural joints.

  • Patent number: 7891916
Abstract: An insert for a drill in which one of the cutting edges respectively formed at four side ridge portions of a rake face of a square flat plate-shaped insert body is made to protrude toward the tip of the drill body of the indexable insert drill while being detachably attached is provided. Each of the cutting edges has a corner cutting edge located at a corner of the rake face, and a major cutting edge and a wiper edge which extend substantially toward one peripheral direction of the rake face from a corner cutting edge. The major cutting edge has a first major cutting edge portion which has a convexly curved shape and extends from the corner cutting edge, and a second major cutting edge portion which smoothly touches the first major cutting edge portion and extends linearly, as seen from a direction facing the rake face. The wiper edge has a straight shape intersecting the second major cutting edge portion at an obtuse angle.

  • Patent number: 7892426
Abstract: A reducing water purification material having a reducing iron-based precipitate selected from green rust, iron ferrite, reducing iron hydroxide, and a mixture thereof. A wastewater treatment process having steps of adding a reducing iron compound to wastewater, leading the wastewater to which the reducing iron compound is added to a reaction tank and forming a precipitate, separating the formed precipitate by a solid-liquid separation to obtain a sludge, and alkalinizing all or a portion of the separated sludge to form an alkaline sludge followed by returning to the reaction tank, wherein in the precipitation step, the wastewater to which the reducing iron compound is added and the alkaline sludge are mixed and are allowed to react in a non-oxidizing atmosphere under alkaline condition to form a reducing iron compound precipitate as the precipitate, thereby incorporating contaminants in the precipitate to remove the contaminants from the wastewater.
