  • Patent number: 4955628
Abstract: A mini foldable cycle having a single front wheel for steering and a pair of adjacent wheels in tandem located at the rear for propelling the vehicle. The tandem arranged rear wheels, with the front tandem wheel slightly higher than the rear tandem wheel, gives the cycle the feel and comfort of a large wheeled vehicle so that very small wheels are required. The cycle consequently is small and light, and is made foldable so that it can be reduced to a very small package for convenience of being transported.

  • Patent number: 4946446
Abstract: Safety hypodermic needle apparatus for disposing of a needle safely after use. The apparatus comprises a housing containing a plunger on which is mounted a needle at one end and an adapter at the other end for engaging a syringe. When the syringe is engaged and is used to push the plunger, the needle is positioned to extend from the housing ready for use. When the syringe is pushed once again after use, this causes the needle to be retracted. In another embodiment, an adapter is employed to permit the use of an evacuated tube for the collection of blood.

  • Patent number: 4944713
Abstract: A treadmill having a walking belt with a constant speed drive motor and a transmission for adjusting the speed of the walking belt. The transmission employs input and output variable pitch pulleys to effect the belt speed change. The pulleys employ adjustably spaced sheaves to accomplish the change in speed ratio. The input pulley sheaves are adjusted by a speed change motor while the output pulley sheaves employ internal springs to adjust the sheave separation to the main drive belt joining the two pulleys. A speed reset motor is employed to keep the output pulley rotating while the sheave separation in the input pulley is adjusted for minimum walking belt speed after the main drive motor is shut down to insure that the main drive belt adjusts properly on the output pulley.

  • Patent number: 4940466
Abstract: A method of removing hair by epilation employing thermolysis in which the probe is inserted into the follicle parallel to the hair shaft, applying multiple bursts of energy to the tip of the probe located adjacent the papilla in an amount for each burst not exceeding 80% of that required to destroy the papilla, followed by applying the same level of energy at intermediate points along the follicle, and repeating the procedure after the hair shaft is removed. Multiple applications of heat are applied to destroy the papilla without damaging the skin. Hair regrowth is minimized by applying the heat at various points along the length of the follicle.

  • Patent number: 4928495
Abstract: Self cooling and self heating beverage containers utilizing water, the boiling point of which has been lowered by a vacuum as the working cooling fluid. A dessicant in a separate container sorbs the vapor generated by the boiling water. The sorption of vapor by the dessicant raises the temperature of the dessicant and limits its vapor sorbing abilities. Provision is made to lower the temperature of the dessicant chamber. In one version of the invention the dessicant chamber is constructed of good heat conducting material, and is immersed in a water bath, to lower the temperature of the dessicant chamber. Alternatively, the outside surfaces of the dessicant chamber are coated with a wick like material. Pre-packaged water is provided to wet the coated dessicant chamber surfaces. The dessicant chamber is then cooled by natural evaporation of the water. In a related improvement, a beverage to be heated is used instead of water as the cooling medium.

  • Patent number: 4925451
Abstract: A flow selector and regulator for use in an I.V. administration arrangement which includes the capability of establishing the flow rate without calibration at the time of use and then automatically maintaining that flow rate regardless of changes in fluid pressure in either or both of upstream or downstream of the regulator. The regulator utilizes a diaphragm which is not subject to stretching or material stress prior to use to control an orifice. The regulator is capable of being calibrated at the time of manufacturer directly in terms of flow rate, something which is not possible in prior such devices. The diaphragm is clamped at the rim and has an arcuate torus facing the inlet and a bulbous central section which controls flow through an outlet orifice. Liquid bypasses the diaphragm through the rim. Other embodiments incorporate the regulator into a drip chamber and reduces the number of parts of the regulator to three members which can be snapped together.

  • Patent number: 4911466
Abstract: An automobile wheel suspension system which maintains the substantially vertical orientation of the wheel supporting strut during cornering of the vehicle or when a road hazard is encountered. The wheel suspension system utilizes a ball joint to connect the top of the vertically extending wheel strut to the body frame and a bell crank pivoted on the control arm supporting the wheel. The ball joint permits the body or chassis of the vehicle to tilt with respect to the strut while the bell crank maintains the orientation of the strut as the vehicle rolls or when the wheel makes contact with a bump in the pavement.

  • Patent number: 4907521
Abstract: Locking apparatus for the tiller arm of a small boat having a line in the stern of the boat passing over the tiller arm. A line lock is mounted on the arm through which the line passes. The line lock consists of a base plate mounted on the arm, a pair of side walls and a lock lever through which the line passes, and a lock member to prevent the lever from being lowered from its upper or raised position. When the lever is in its lowered position the holes in the side panels and the lever are aligned thereby permitting the tiller arm to be moved freely. When the arm is raised the line becomes pinched preventing movement of the tiller arm. There is also provided a lock member to prevent the lock lever from dropping from its raised position. All parts are non resilient in construction.
