Abstract: An authentication system in which communication between two locations is provided by a continuous full duplex bidirectional communications highway, which highway is a secure link between the two locations. Each location transmits information to the opposite location on a bit-by-bit basis, with a previously transmitted bit of information serving as a decoding key for the most recently received bit of information and said received bit in turn serving as the encoding key for the next bit to be transmitted. An authenticated transaction record is provided upon receipt of verified transactional data, and the reception of remotely received information may be authenticated to the sender of such data.
Abstract: Improved comestibles including foods and drugs are provided, incorporating parenchymal cell cellulose. Improved properties, including physicochemical, rheological and nutritional properties result from such incorporation. Stabilized dispersions, emulsions, foams and frozen materials can preferably be provided through employment of the preferred embodiments.
Abstract: The present invention relates to porous powder metal (P/M) parts having improved dynamic properties such as impact and fatigue strength. These properties are achieved by the use of finer metal powders.

Abstract: Transmission and reception of first and second information signals over a telephone local loop, simultaneous with voice communications over the same local loop, is possible if the phase and amplitude of said first and second signals are perfectly balanced. The inventive apparatus detects differences in phase and amplitude between said first and second signals, and generates digital control signals to reduce the phase and amplitude differences to zero. Adjustment of phase and amplitude is completely automatic and rapidly accomplished.
Abstract: A highly temperature resistant foam useful for insulating is disclosed. The foam is particularly useful for insulating stem pipes, hot water heaters and refinery and chemical processing plant pipes. The foam insulation utilizes a cross-linking agent comprised of melamine, which may be dissolved in an alcoholic base. The foam may also include an aromatic polyester polyol, a chlorinated polyester polyol, a nonyl phenol ethoxylate, a silicone based surfactant, and isocyanurate catalyst, a density controlling agent and polymeric isocyanate. The foam will stand consistent temperatures as high as 400.degree. F. It is suitable for spray or poured applications and may be frothed during application.
Abstract: Aluminium chloride contaminated with iron chloride is purified by contacting it in vapor form with a bed of particles of aluminium metal interspersed with particles of a chemically inert material. The efficiency of the process may be maintained by acid treating, drying and recycling the bed material. The process may be applied to aluminium chloride produced by the chlorination of a bauxite beneficiate.
Abstract: A thin section fibrous, unrecrystallized dispersion strengthened copper body suitable for use in the manufacture of lead frames for integrated circuits and a method for making same.
Abstract: A glow discharge magnetron sputtering apparatus having an improved multi-rod type target which produces a more uniform and higher rate of deposition on a substrate than obtainable in prior art devices, and which is particularly suitable for use in connection with the deposition of the magnetic materials. The apparatus includes a cathode comprising a cathode body, a backing plate connected removably with the cathode body, a copper-made common plate bonded to the bottom of the backing plate, and a target composed of a plurality of rods of material to be sputtered. Each rod has a sputtering surface of hemisphere form on the apex thereof.
Abstract: This invention relates to substantially full-dense, near-net shape bodies made of dispersion strengthened copper (D.S.C.) powder and products which are cold formed and/or machined from these bodies, such as resistance welding electrodes. The invention includes processes for manufacturing substantially full-dense, near-net shape, substantially equiaxed bodies from D.S.C. powder.
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner of the present invention can be selectively transformed into a portable, hand-carried position, or a floor-carried, upright position, by changing the position of its handle incorporated with an extension member. Simple connecting means are utilized for changing the position of the handle.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for effectively doubling the operational speed of certain digital circuit designs. In particular, a digital clock operating at a first frequency is utilized to effectively drive TTL shift registers at twice the frequency of the digital clock. This effective doubling of the clock speed is achieved without the necessity of resorting to expensive and high power consumption circuit designs.
Abstract: A real-time ultrasonic pipe inspection system is provided which utilizes computer processing methods in real-time to create a user-friendly interactive environment achieving ease of operation as well as a combination of consistency, thoroughness and speed in flaw and thickness detection. Two computers are utilized in a distributed processor configuration wherein one of the computers is dedicated to user input/output, while the second controls real-time processing of ultrasonic data with the two computers being connected via a communications highway. Simultaneous dual level sensitivity inspection of a plurality of separate probed areas is possible. Data input is provided via a touch sensitive CRT, while pipe status can be indicated with automatic color-coding, graphic presentation on a system CRT or hard copy. The system is provided with ultrasonic wheel probes comprising rotably mounted transducer block and yoke assemblies for rapid adjustment of helical scan angle for different sized pipe.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring the condition of a plurality of electrochemical cells and controlling the output of said cells upon detection of a cell having a lower capacity than the others.
Abstract: Transient signal elimination circuitry is disposed in a local communications loop extending from a subscriber telephone to a telephone central office couples ringing and on-hook and off-hook signals through the loop after removing transients in these signals. The circuitry also isolates the telephone subscriber and central office from the local loop until and off-hook signal is detected and restores this isolation when an on-hook condition exits at the telephone subscriber. In this manner, the local loop can be simultaneously used for both voice communications and a second information signal with each signal capable of occupying the same bandwidth. These signals can operate independently of each other.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an infiltrated ferrous powder metal part containing certain additives, yielding a radically improved unnotched impact strength without sacrificing tensile strength. Fatigue strength is also improved. In addition, improved dimensional control is obtained during infiltration. The microstructure is also improved, with smoothing or rounding of the formerly sharp angled copper filled pores. The invention also comprises the method of achieving these results.

Abstract: An ammonia aged silica which can be used for example, in an improved process for chillproofing a malt beverage. The silica is aged with ammonia for a prolonged period of time. Better stability with smaller amounts of silica are obtained.
Abstract: A current limiting control circuit for a d.c. motor, wherein compensation is provided for the inherent voltage drop across the armature of the d.c. motor with a first dedicated amplifier, while a second dedicated amplifier provides current limit control. In providing a separate and dedicated amplifier for the current limiting function, the limitations inherent in the current/resistance compensation circuit, such as lag in response time, are avoided.
