  • Patent number: 6199935
Abstract: A load-carrying box on a land vehicle in the form of a generally rectangular container having an upper perimeter defined by a top edge of each of the walls encompassing an open top is covered by a flexible sheet cover having a first end secured adjacent a top edge of one of the side walls. A second end of the flexible sheet is attached to a roller having opposite ends projecting beyond the top edges of two end walls forming the load-carrying box. A motor is coupled to the roller for rolling and unrolling the flexible sheet cover along the top edges of the two end walls and along bows connecting the two side walls. An arm has a first end coupled to the roller and a second end including a slot engaging a pin defining a pivot for the arm so that the roller can remain in constant contact with the top edges of the end walls and bows as the flexible sheet cover is deployed and retrieved.

  • Patent number: 6184989
Abstract: Laser sheet tomography is employed to determine flow field statistics in non-steady and steady flow at high repetition rates. The laser sheet tomography system is divided into two independent optical portions, the laser illuminator and the laser imager. As an absorption instrument, the laser illuminator can be shone directly into the laser imager, or if desired, the two portions can be positioned orthogonally to each other with the laser imager observing the scattered light. The observed light is correlated with known variations in laser intensity of the imager to generate transmittance data from which asymmetry ratios and probability density functions of local absorption coefficients can be computed at time repetition rates of 200 Hz and greater.

  • Patent number: 6160698
Abstract: A first surface of a basepan of molded plastic for an electric load center includes a plurality of integrally formed fasteners for securing electrical components such as bus bars, neutral bars, and neutral tie bars to the basepan. Each fastener is formed in the absence of any core through the basepan from a second surface obverse to the first. Each integrally formed fastener has a support portion which projects away from the basepan first surface and a flexural portion supported by the support portion. The flexural portion has a first outwardly facing surface inclined with respect to the basepan first surface at an angle that facilitates elastic deformation of the flexural portion, but not the support portion upon application of a bar to the basepan. The flexural portion also has a second inwardly facing surface arranged at an angle with respect to the basepan first surface that facilitates fixed retention of the bar despite any reasonable variation in the thickness of the bar.

  • Patent number: 6158833
Abstract: A thermally insulated cabinet is provided for protecting electronic data storage devices from damage by accidental and environmental conditions and from intentional acts. This cabinet provides an interior envelope which contains a data storage device surrounded by multiple layers of thermal insulation. The thermal insulation layers allow electrical power, data and device control cabling to access the device, thus permitting real time operation of the device while the device is contained within the inner envelope. The inner envelope has two vertically separated ends: a lower end and an upper end. The data storage device is affixed to the inner envelope to permit heated air to rise from the lower end of the inner envelope away from the location of the device. The inner chamber is dimensioned to permit the heat generated by operation of the data storage device to dissipate and to maintain stable thermal conditions within the inner envelope during normal use.

  • Patent number: 6145752
Abstract: This invention generally relates to a thermostat system for use in thermal regulation of an environment. This invention involves thermal regulation systems for controlling the temperature of an environment and the thermostat systems used in thermal regulation systems. The invention provides a pair of contacts and a creep action bi-metal thermostat, electrically connected to the pair of contacts. The bi-metal thermostat provides an electrical connection between the pair of contacts when the thermostat is exposed to temperatures within one defined range, and the thermostat interrupts any electrical connection between the pair of contacts when the thermostat is exposed to temperatures that are outside of the defined range. A capacitor, is electrically connected between the contacts, in parallel with the creep action bi-metal thermostat to prevent heating caused by electrical arcing within the bi-metal thermostat from altering the performance of the bi-metal thermostat.

  • Patent number: 6129119
Abstract: A flexible tube for lining pipes and ducts as well as a method and an apparatus for manufacturing thereof are suggested. The flexible tube is composed of a coated fabric of high resilient warp threads as well as woof threads having lower elasticity. With the flexible tube thus suggested, strong curvatures or angles being present in the pipes can be lined without wrinkles and all-over for the first time. This is enabled in that the high resilient warp threads are stabilized by covering yarn upon straight pipe portions and hence comprise a limited linear extension such that the flexible tube can be placed inside the pipe in quality. In the curved pipe portions the high elasticity of the basic warp thread is activated by a force increase during passing through these portions by compensating the forces of the covering yarn, such that the flexible tube closely fits to the inner pipe wall, all-over and without any wrinkles in these regions.
