  • Patent number: 5875857
Abstract: A hydraulically operated rock drill including a cylinder, a piston mounted for reciprocating movement in the cylinder, a hydraulic fluid line connected to the cylinder, and an accumulator. A chamber with a section of reduced dimensions is formed in the cylinder, and the piston includes an annular formation which moves within the chamber and into and out of the section as the piston reciprocates. The accumulator is connected via a port to the section, and the hydraulic fluid line is connected to the chamber and is in communication with the accumulator when the annular formation is out of the section and which is cut off from the accumulator, by the annular formation, when the annular formation moves into the section, the annular formation then pressurizing hydraulic fluid in the section whereby hydraulic energy, produced by kinetic energy developed over at least part of a return stroke of the piston, is stored in the accumulator. A second accumulator is connected at least to the high pressure line.

  • Patent number: 5872174
Abstract: Improved processes for making plastic articles, such as carbonated beverage bottles made from PET, are disclosed. The process includes the step of molding a preform which comprises thermoplastic resin and glass pellets that are substantially uniformly dispersed in the resin. By including the glass pellets, the preform can be more easily and efficiently reheated, if necessary during production. Because the glass pellets are retained in a substantially uniform dispersion in the blown article, the article is not subject to electrostatic adhesion to other articles following release from the blow mold.

Abstract: A molded article retrieval apparatus in combination with a plastic article molding machine. The molding machine has at least a first mold portion and a second mold portion, at least one of the first and second mold portions being reciprocally movable with respect to the other mold portion, between a conjoined position, wherein a set of articles of plastic can be formed in a set of cavities defined by the conjoined first and second mold portions, and a spaced-apart position, wherein the set of articles of plastic can be released from the cavities into a gap formed between the first and second mold portions. The molded article retrieval apparatus includes an article carrier having at least two sets of article receivers, each set of article receivers being positionable at a different lateral alignment of the article carrier within the gap to receive an entire set of the articles of plastic, and a mover for moving the article carrier into and out of the gap.

  • Patent number: 5853775
Abstract: Method and apparatus for forming stretch blow molded containers having uniform sidewall thickness from physical symmetric parisons. Parisons are heated non-uniformly by rotating at a non-uniform rate in a heating station. A sensor determines the angular orientation of the parisons emerging from the heating station. Each parison is angularly reoriented at a repositioning station prior to introduction into a stretch blow molding station having non-round interior surfaces, so that the temperature profile of each parison corresponds with differential expansion required to form the desired non-round container.

  • Patent number: 5842747
Abstract: An apparatus for a roadway surface reclaiming drum is disclosed that includes a plurality of flighting sections generally helically attached to a cylindrical surface of the drum at an included angle of about 40.degree. to about 60.degree.. During rotation of the drum about its cylindrical axis, a plurality of cutter bits mounted to openings defined in the flighting sections loosen roadway surface and the flighting sections transport loosened roadway material axially along the drum and between the flighting sections towards a lateral center portion of the drum. A plurality of teeth received in recesses defined in walls of the flighting sections facilitate transport of loosened roadway material between adjacent flighting sections towards the lateral center portion of the drum and reduce wear of the flighting sections. Cutter bit inserts for receiving the cutter bits are mounted to base portions attached to the outermost portions of the flighting sections, and define interior bores.

  • Patent number: 5837299
Abstract: A cooling assembly includes a base and at least one body having at least one opening, each opening including an inner surface. An insert is situated within each opening, each insert having an inner surface and an outer surface. The outer surface of each insert confronts a corresponding body inner surface to define a volume. At least one connection is provided between the volume and a source of fluid coolant for filling the volume with the fluid coolant. The insert includes at least one surface which moves to conform at least in part to the outer surface of a molded article whereby heat transfer occurs between the molded article and the fluid coolant across the insert.
