  • Patent number: 5739512
Abstract: Digital delivery of receipts overcomes many of the problems associated with paper receipts. Digital receipts can be delivered over a properitary or over an open network such as the Internet. They can be uploaded to a smart card. They can be standardized in format to facilitate automated processing. An e-mail address can be incorporated into a bank card or other machine readable and for automatic routing of the receipt to a payor's e-mailbox.

  • Patent number: 5740119
Abstract: In a semiconductor memory device selectively implementing one of a 4K refresh cycle and a 8K refresh cycle, the positions of externally applied address signal bits are switched internally by address switching circuits such that memory cells at the same positions are selected regardless of whether the 4K refresh cycle or the 8K refresh cycle is specified according to a refresh cycle mode specify signal. As a result, by testing the device in one refresh cycle mode, the device can be checked in both refresh cycle operations, reducing the test time and making the test easier.

  • Patent number: 5740075
Abstract: An access subnetwork provides broadcast access transport as well as selective allocation of resources for interactive communications sessions dedicated to individual end users. The access subnetwork has specified broadcast and interactive service interfaces, both for communications to and from an information provider and for communication to and from customer premises equipment. An Access Subnetwork Controller provides a single point of control contact within the access subnetwork. Any other subnetwork (typically an element of a higher level control subnetwork) needing a control function in the access subnetwork always sends the request for that function to the Access Subnetwork Controller. The primary responsibility of the Access Subnetwork Controller is to control resources, provide requested resources and monitor the use of resources within in the realm of the access subnetwork.

  • Patent number: 5740415
Abstract: A branch execution unit processes operand data which is supplied from an instruction decoder with branch instruction information which is read from a branch target buffer, carries out branch prediction and execution, and forms a branch probability flag which is generated in relation to a branch instruction for supplying to a branch target buffer registration/update decision mechanism. In registration of a branch instruction which is non-registered in the BTB registration/update decision mechanism, the registration or non-registration is carried out in accordance with the value of the branch probability flag. Thus, it is possible to prevent a branch instruction having a low branch probability from being registered in the branch target buffer, thereby preventing reduction of branch prediction accuracy. The branch prediction is executed with employment of only a validity bit.

  • Patent number: 5738625
Abstract: A first energy field is applied to a neural cell to be stimulated from a polarized quiescent state to an active depolarized state. The first field changes the cell from the quiescent state so the cell transmembrane potential differs from both of the states. While the transmembrane potential differs from both the states a field including a cyclic magnetic component is applied to the cell. The cyclic magnetic component has a frequency and amplitude and is combined with effects from the first energy field such that each cycle of the cyclic magnetic component causes an incremental change in transmembrane potential of the cell without changing the cell from the quiescent to the active state. The cyclic magnetic component applied to the cell has a duration and amplitude and is combined with the effects of the first energy field to cause an accumulation of the incremental changes to change the cell state from the quiescent to the active state.

  • Patent number: 5737846
Abstract: A lead frame dryer comprises a pair of water absorbing rollers positioned downstream of a lead frame water jet deflasher. The water absorbing rollers remove water from surfaces of the lead frame. A solid roller is positioned adjacent each of the water absorbing rolls to squeegee to compress the water absorbing roller and remove water stored in the water absorbing rollers for collection. A venturi device is provided which creates a vacuum for absorbing water removed from the water absorbing rolls. The collected water can be recycled back to the water jet deflasher.

  • Patent number: 5740418
Abstract: A pipelined processor includes a main memory, an instruction cache, a BTB, and a BTB registration discriminator for decoding instructions line fetched from the main memory at the time of mishit of the instruction cache and for registering branch information in the BTB when the instruction is a branch instruction. Since the branch information is already stored in the BTB even at the first execution time of the branch instruction, a branch prediction hit ratio is improved.

  • Patent number: 5738289
Abstract: A crusher capable of effectively crushing a building structure, shearing iron reinforcing rods, etc., smashing the crushed scraps into pieces, and collecting and carrying an elongated object. A pair of arms (2a, 2b) are driven to open and close for crushing and shearing the object. A front end of each of the pair of arms is divided into a plurality of fingers to which claws (7a, 7a', 7b) are respectively attached. Only the central claw (7a') is inwardly directed by a greater angle as compared with the other claws (7a, 7b). Each arms has a shearing blade (10a, 10b) for shearing an iron reinforcing rod, an iron frame, etc. in the vicinity of the pivoted portion, and also through holes (11) in the central portion. Weight of the arms (2a, 2b) and an arm support (3) are balanced with respect to the central axis of rotation of the arm support (3).

  • Patent number: 5740088
Abstract: A first pseudo random number generating circuit sequentially provides an output signal to a matching detecting circuit in response to a clock signal. A second pseudo random number generating circuit generates an initial value, and then, sequentially provides an output signal to a storage device in response to an output signal from the matching detecting circuit and the clock signal. Data with the output signal as an address is provided as an output signal from the storage device. When the matching detecting circuit detects matching between the output signals, the matching detecting circuit provides the output signals to the second pseudo random number generating circuit and an AND logic circuit. As described above, when the output signal of the matching detecting circuit is provided, the output signals from the storage device are provided as respective output control signals.

  • Patent number: 5735244
Abstract: With engine control apparatus for controlling a throttle opening and fuel injection quantity in order to realize a target engine torque according to the present invention, in the case where a target air-fuel ratio is changed in accordance with a change in the target engine torque, erroneous control of the fuel injection quantity is prevented. To achieve this, a target fuel quantity and a target air-fuel ratio are set based on the target engine torque, and a target air quantity is computed from the target fuel quantity and the target air fuel ratio. A target throttle opening is then computed based on the target air quantity, to control an electrically controlled throttle valve. Meanwhile, an actual air quantity detected by an air flow meter is smoothed, and a cylinder charge air quantity computed. The target air-fuel ratio is then corrected using a ratio of the cylinder charge air quantity to the target air quantity.

  • Patent number: 5736776
Abstract: On a p.sup.+ diffused region which is to be a lower electrode of a capacitor, a silicon nitride film which is a capacitor insulating layer is formed. An upper electrode is formed on this silicon nitride film. The upper electrode has a non-doped polycrystalline silicon film and a silicide layer. Non-doped polycrystalline silicon film is formed in contact with silicon nitride film. Silicide layer is formed on a surface of non-doped polycrystalline silicon film. Thus, a capacitor structure is obtained in which a larger capacitance and a higher breakdown voltage can be assured, so that it would not operate inaccurately even when it is integrated to a higher degree.

  • Patent number: 5736634
Abstract: Top dead center (TDC) is obtained by counting the number of unit angle signals from a reference angle signal for each cylinder, and combustion conditions of the engine are then detected based on fluctuations in the period of the top dead center. Here the unit angle signals occurring from after the reference angle signal until the TDC following the subsequent reference angle signal are counted, and the count number of the unit angle signals from after the reference angle signal until when the TDC is obtained, is modified based on a difference between the counted number and a reference value.
