  • Patent number: 5843657
Abstract: A method of microdissection which involves: forming an image field of cells of the tissue sample utilizing a microscope, identifying at least one zone of cells of interest from the image field of cells which at least one zone of cells of interest includes different types of cells than adjacent zones of cells, and extracting the at least one zone of cells of interest from the tissue sample. The extraction is achieved by contacting the tissue sample with a transfer surface that can be selectively activated so that regions thereof adhere to the zone of cells of interest to be extracted. The transfer surface includes an activatable adhesive layer which provides chemical or electrostatic adherence to the selected regions of the tissue sample. After the transfer surface is activated the transfer surface and tissue sample are separated. During separation the zone of cells of interest remains adhered to the transfer surface and is thus separated from the tissue sample.

  • Patent number: 5840262
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved process for producing lead oxide in a pure state from a spent paste resulting from exhausted acid batteries. The spent paste is first calcined and desulfurized, then leached by a concentrated solution comprising an alkali hydroxide at a temperature above 100.degree. C. The separated solution is contacted with a ketone resulting in a suspension from which the .alpha.-lead oxide constituent is recovered. The solutions of alkali and ketone are recycled in the process. The preferred alkali constituents are selected from sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide, preferably containing also a small amount of sulfate of the respective alkali metal of the hydroxide used.

  • Patent number: 5838661
Abstract: A method and arrangement for shutting off a receive channel in a data communications system to prevent accidental or intentional overwhelming of the memory of the system such as that caused by a continuous burst of short frame data. The data frames received are monitored by a shutoff counter as they are received on one of the channels of a serial input/output (I/O) device. When the shutoff count is reached, the receive channel will be shut off. The current value of the shutoff counter is compared to a value stored in a warning register. Before reaching the shutoff count, a warning is generated when the current shutoff counter value reaches the warning register value.

  • Patent number: 5834427
Abstract: The present invention relates to a purified casein phosphopeptide(CPP) having a novel amino acid sequence and a purified casein including same wherein the 25th Arg from N-terminal in a conventional CPP is replaced by Cys, rendering the CPPs to forming a dimer by disulfide bond. In the corresponding DNA sequence, cytosine is replaced by thymine to cause the amino acid replacement from Arginine(Arg) to Cysteine(Cys). The CPP or the casein containing same has an improved ability of solubilizing minerals and absorbing thereof in animals. The CPP or the beta-casein H containing same can be added to foodstuffs, beverages, medication, cosmetics, feed in an effective amount of enhancing a mineral absorption in animals. • Patent number: 5835434
Abstract: This substrate voltage generating circuit (internal voltage generating circuit) includes an oscillator, a p channel transistor, an AND circuit, and a pump circuit. The substrate voltage generating circuit is stopped by applying stop signals S and S to the p channel transistor and the AND circuit connected to the oscillator, and by cutting supply of power supply voltage to the oscillator and a path of output of the oscillator. In order to find current consumption at stand-by of a semiconductor memory device, current consumptions of the whole semiconductor memory device at stand-by before and after operation of the substrate voltage generating circuit is stopped as described above are measured, and the difference between them is calculated. Current consumption of the substrate voltage generating circuit is thus found.

  • Patent number: 5835960
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing a conversion technique to allow an eight bit ROM BIOS to be read on a 32 bit PCI bus. A separate address port for the ROM BIOS is provided which is not connected to the PCI bus. The conversion bus takes data from the ROM BIOS at a separate data port, assembles four cycles of eight bits in a 32 bit fashion and delivers that data to the PCI bus. When the PCI bus requests 4 bytes, the system of the present invention assembles 4 bytes from the 8 bit data and transmits that data to the PCI bus as a 32 bit quantity.
