  • Patent number: 5802204
Abstract: An arrangement (apparatus and method) for translating pixel images representing characters or symbols into characters using fuzzy logic processing. The disclosed character translator uses two-dimensional membership functions having a center corresponding to a pixel of a feature mask representing a primitive element. A plurality of three-dimensional fuzzifiers output normalized feature mask errors corresponding to a distance error between the pixels of a feature mask and the pixels of the scanned image. The normalized feature mask errors are compared in accordance with a feature mask sequence corresponding to a known character to obtain a normalized character score. The mask sequence having the lowest normalized character score is deemed the most likely candidate as a recognized character of the scanned image.

  • Patent number: 5800619
Abstract: A substantially planar coil of a vacuum plasma processor has plural turns for exciting gas in the processor to a plasma state in response to r.f. coil energization. The coil is located outside the processor and surrounded by a shield tending to cause magnetic flux coupled from peripheral portions of the coil to the gas to be less than magnetic flux coupled from interior portions of the coil to the gas. The coil is arranged so magnetic flux derived from a center portion of an area circumscribed by the coil is less than the magnetic flux derived from all other areas circumscribed by the coil. The magnetic flux is such that the density of the plasma in the processor on a processed substrate is relatively uniform even though the coil exhibits transmission line properties so there are substantial peak-to-peak current variations along the length of the coil.

  • Patent number: 5798684
Abstract: A thin-film temperature sensor with a robust bridge structure and a stable electric characteristic, as well as a method of manufacture thereof, is provided. Over the substrate 1 with the cavity 13 are formed electrode layers 6 in a bridge shape, whose electrodes 6A, 6B are bonded with thermal sensitive resistor films 7, 8, which are then covered with a protective insulating film 9, a buffer film 10 and a glass layer 11 in that order. The protective insulating film 9 and the glass layer 11 extend over the substrate 1 to increase the mechanical strength of the infrared sensitive element A. The sandwich structure of the insulating films 5, 9 holding the thermal sensitive resistor films 7, 8 in between and the use of the buffer film 10 combine to prevent electrical characteristic variations, which would otherwise be caused by changes in composition of the thermal sensitive resistor films 7, 8 during the heat treatment process.

  • Patent number: 5798290
Abstract: A polysilicon film having a rough surface is formed by a reduced pressure CVD method at a temperature of 575.degree. C. and a deposition pressure of 0.2 Torr. Silicon ions are implanted into the polysilicon film having a rough surface. Thus, the tips of concaves and convexes at the rough surface of the polysilicon film are rounded. Then, this polysilicon film having a rough surface is patterned to form a storage node. A cell plate is formed to cover the storage node with a capacitor insulating layer therebetween. Consequently, a semiconductor device capable of suppressing leak current between capacitor electrodes can be manufactured.

  • Patent number: 5796287
Abstract: An improved output driver circuit for a semiconductor integrated circuit device is provided. The output driver circuit receives a type select signal (.phi.1,/.phi.1) determined by bonding selection. When a heavy load circuit is connected to an output terminal (DQ), a signal (.phi.1) of low level and a signal (/.phi.1) of high level are provided, whereby transistors (18, 19) are turned on simultaneously in response to a data signal (Mo). When a light load circuit is connected to the terminal (DQ), a signal (.phi.1) of high level and a signal (/.phi.1) of low level are provided, whereby transistors (18, 19) are turned on at a different timing. More specifically, following charging of a light load by a transistor (18) having low mutual conductance, a transistor (19) is turned on. Therefore, noise generation can be flexibly suppressed by bonding selection.

  • Patent number: 5797033
Abstract: A method and arrangement for receiving data in a direct memory access (DMA) controller and storing the received data in a host memory in a computer system determines the size of the packets of data to be transferred. The host memory is subdivided into large memory areas for storing large packets of data and small memory areas for storing small packets of data. A packet size determiner determines whether the packet of data to be transferred is a large packet of data or a small packet of data and provides a signal to the DMA controller. In response to this signal, the DMA controller selects a large memory area of the host memory for storing the data when the received data is determined to be a large packet of data and selects a small memory area of the host memory for storing the data when the received data is determined to be a small packet of data.

  • Patent number: 5795792
Abstract: A trench is formed on a main surface of a p+ type monocrystalline silicon substrate. A silicon oxide film is formed extending from the inner surface of trench onto the main surface of p+ type monocrystalline silicon substrate. The thickness of a corner portion positioned on the upper end corner portion of the sidewall of trench in silicon oxide film is larger than the thickness of silicon oxide film positioned on the sidewall of trench. An n type polycrystalline silicon layer extending from the inside of trench onto the main surface of p+ type monocrystalline silicon substrate is formed on silicon oxide film. Thus, a semiconductor device having a trench structure with an improved breakdown voltage for an insulating layer positioned on an upper end corner portion of the sidewall of a trench is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5797037
Abstract: A DMA data transfer system is provided with an interrupt request controller that has pass through logic, data limit logic, stale data logic and error detecting logic to monitor for predetermined conditions. A request for an interrupt sent to a central processor is generated by the interrupt request controller when an input interrupt request is applied to the interrupt request controller and one of the following conditions is met: 1) no previous DMA requests had occurred for a predetermined time interval; 2) a preset limit for the amount of data being transferred is reached; 3) no new requests for DMA transfer occur for preset time intervals; or 4) the status indicates an error in the data being transferred, or priority handling of the data is requested. By making sure one of the predetermined conditions is met before generating an interrupt request, the number of interrupt requests to the central processing unit is greatly reduced and the throughput of the system is increased.
