Patent number: 5279813Abstract: An oral composition, such as a paste or gel dentifrice or a liquid mouthwash, containing a substantially water insoluble non-cationic antibacterial agent, such as triclosan, which, when used to clean the teeth or rinse the mouth, acts to decrease plaque on the teeth, is packaged in a dispensing container which includes a solid polymeric material, such as polyfluoroethylene, which is compatible with the antibacterial agent so that excessive loss of anti-plaque activity of such agent on storage is avoided. Alternatively, various other polymers may be employed as container parts, which normally would cause excessive losses of anti-plaque action of the antibacterial agent in the composition but such action is countered by the presence of a stabilizer, such as a terpene, e.g., limonene, in the oral composition formula.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1992Date of Patent: January 18, 1994Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventors: Abdul Gaffar, Richard S. Patent number: 5260062Abstract: A dental composition, such as a paste or gel dentifrice containing triclosan, as an antibacterial agent which acts to decrease plaque on the teeth, and polyphosphate for anti-tartar actions, is packaged in a finger actuatable pump-type plastic dispensing container which is made of or includes a solid polymeric material, such as a polyfluoroethylene, which is compatible with triclosan, so that excessive loss of its anti-plaque activity on storage is avoided, which losses have been noted when various other plastics have been employed as dispensing container component materials. Alternatively, others of such plastic may be employed for dispensing container parts when a stabilizer, such as a terpene, e.g., limonene, is present in the dentifrice.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1990Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventor: Abdul Gaffar

Patent number: 5240697Abstract: An oral composition, such as a toothpaste, includes an anti-tartar proportion of a polyphosphate anti-tartar agent (preferably with synthetic anionic polymeric polycarboxylate or equivalent, and fluoride) and a desensitizing proportion of a tooth pain inhibiting potassium salt which passes through exposed dentin tubules to tooth nerves or neurons, which salt can be potassium nitrate, potassium citrate or potassium oxalate, so that it helps to prevent tartar from forming on the teeth and also lessens any pain experienced by persons contacting their sensitive teeth with the oral composition. Preferably the oral composition is a desensitizing anti-tartar toothpaste or gel which, when the teeth are brushed with it, aids in removal of at least some tartar and prevents its reappearance, and at the same time diminishes any tooth pain that the brusher would otherwise experience due to such brushing.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 1991Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventors: James Norfleet, Willie J. Patent number: 5234688Abstract: A dental composition, such as a paste or gel dentifrice containing triclosan, as an antibacterial agent which acts to decrease plaque on the teeth, is packaged in a hand holdable and squeezable dispensing container which is made of or includes a part or parts of a solid polymeric material, such as a polyfluoroethylene or polyvinyl chloride, which is compatible with triclosan, so that excessive loss of its anti-plaque activity on storage is avoided, which losses have been noted when various other plastics have been employed as dispensing container component materials. Alternatively, other more reactive plastics may be employed for such dispensing container parts when a stabilizer, such as terpene, e.g., limonene, is present in the dentifrice.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1990Date of Patent: August 10, 1993Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventor: Abdul Gaffar

Patent number: 5208009Abstract: An anticalculus oral composition, which is preferably a toothpaste or a mouthrinse, includes an effective anticalculus azacycloalkane-2,2-diphosphonic acid or a salt thereof, preferably azacycloheptane-2,2-diphosphonic acid, and a water-soluble or water swellable polymer having a molecular weight of about 1,000-2,000,000, such as a linear copolymer of maleic anhydride and vinyl methyl ether or a polyvinyl phosphonate. The polymer surprisingly increases the anticalculus effectiveness of the azacycloalkane-2,2-diphosphonic acid or salt thereof in such compositions, even at comparatively low concentrations of both such materials. Also within the invention is a process for applying such compositions to the teeth, and it has been shown by both in vitro and in vivo testing that significant repeatable improvements in anticalculus effects are obtained by such processes, compared to control processes in which either of the active components mentioned is employed alone in the described oral compositions.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1991Date of Patent: May 4, 1993Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive CompanyInventors: Abdul Gaffar, John J. Afflito, Marilou T. Joziak

Patent number: 5203266Abstract: A foldable table assembly has a base frame formed by transverse lower base pieces, longitudinally opposing pairs of spaced-apart upright pieces having pivot mounts on their upper ends, longitudinal stretchers extending between the upright pieces, and end sections between the upright pieces defining a centerline of the assembly and having leaf stops on their upper ends, for independently holding respective table leaves mounted by pivot pins to the pivot mounts on each transverse side of the centerline. The tables leaves have a total span greater than the width of the upright pieces, and fold vertically for storage within the width of the upright pieces. A longitudinal upper shelf is provided on one transverse side supported by upright posts at the centerline above the corresponding table leaf, and is foldable to a vertical storage position. Round banquet table leaves can be interchangeably mounted in place of rectangular buffer table leaves by removing the pivot pins from the pivot mounts.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: April 20, 1993Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Co.Inventor: Kenneth V.
