  • Patent number: 5723993
Abstract: A pulse generating circuit for use in a semiconductor memory device is triggered by a transition of an input logic signal, to provide an output pulse having a predetermined pulse width or period. Feedback from the output pulse is used to isolate the input signal once the output pulse has begun, so as to prevent premature truncation of the output pulse if the input signal changes state during the output pulse period. This pulse generator is particularly advantageous in high-speed semiconductor memory integrated circuits where the input pulse may be relatively brief.

  • Patent number: 5718639
Abstract: A video golf swing sensing system responsive to a user swinging a golf club provides inputs to a video golf game operating on a personal computer having a monitor, a microprocessor, and a serial port. The sensing system is mounted on a pad and includes linear arrays of photodetectors and LED for detecting a club head parameter by sensing light reflected off the club head. A microcontroller processes the parameter data into a form required by the personal computer. An input cable coupled between an output of the microcontroller and the serial port transmits the information to the personal computer to provide the golf game information to determine a corresponding ball path in the video game. The arrays are recessed beneath a shield to facilitate reflection of light from the sources to the detectors within openings in the shield while excluding external light.

  • Patent number: 5717490
Abstract: The present invention describes a method for detecting thickness measurement error of a film mounted on a wafer substrate. The method comprises exposing a film to be measured to electromagnetic waves over a range of incident wavelengths, reflecting the electromagnetic waves from an outer surface of the film and from the film-substrate interface so that said reflected electromagnetic waves interfere with one another, and measuring an intensity of the reflected electromagnetic waves. A reflected intensity curve is then computed over the range of incident wavelengths and then compared to a theoretically calculated reflected intensity curve to obtain a goodness of fit (GOF) measurement. The above process is repeated at a plurality of different locations on the wafer to obtain a plurality of GOF measurements for the wafer. Minimum and maximum GOF measurements are determined from the plurality of GOF measurements obtained. If anyone of these GOF measurements are less than a prescribed amount, such as 0.

  • Patent number: 5714911
Abstract: A quadrature oscillator includes an amplitude control circuit that is based upon the trigonometric identity sin.sup.2 .omega.t+cos.sup.2 .omega.t=1. The amplitude control circuit, referred to as a Pythagorator, includes two squaring circuits. Each squaring circuit receives a respective quadrature oscillator signal and squares it. The outputs of the two squaring circuits are joined together so as to sum the outputs of the two squaring circuits to produce a sum of squares signal. This signal, a current in the preferred embodiment, is provided to damping diodes coupled to the outputs of the quadrature oscillator. The damping diodes produce a shunt positive resistance at the outputs of the quadrature oscillator in response to this current that has the effect of cancelling the shunt negative resistance of the regenerative elements of the oscillator thereby establishing the amplitude of the quadrature oscillator signals at a desired amplitude.

  • Patent number: 5703475
Abstract: A reference voltage generator includes a pull-up stage which pulls a reference voltage signal rapidly up toward 1/2Vcc at power-up. The pull-up stage is controlled by a controller which has a comparator and control voltage generator which are disabled after the pull-up operation is terminated so as to reduce stand-by current consumption. The controller includes a pair of NAND gates cross connected as an RS flip-flop to turn on the pull-up stage at power up. A boost signal allows the flip-flop to enable the comparator and control voltage generator after the power supply has stabilized. When the reference voltage signal reaches 1/2Vcc, the comparator sets the flip flop which turns off the pull-up stage and disables the comparator and control voltage generator.
