Abstract: A projectile launched from a conventional weapon; upon impact with a human target the projectile attaches to the target and stuns and disables the target by applying a pulsed electrical charge. The electric round is defined as non lethal ammunition directed to incapacitate a human, to prevent him from moving for a short time, to prevent him from committing a crime and to allow authorized personnel to arrest the target. A novel thin film technology transformer and thin film technology battery produce an electrical shock capable of stunning a human being in a device the size of a conventional bullet. The transformer and battery are smaller and lighter than conventional transformers and batteries with similar power output.
Abstract: The location of a receiver is determined by receiving respective ranging signals from each of a plurality of transmitters at known locations. The ranging signals are cross-correlated with respective model signals to provide respective cross-correlation functions. For cross correlation functions that are determined to include multipath noise, the multipath noise is estimated and removed. Respective delays of the cross-correlation functions are estimated and the location of the receiver is inferred from the delays.
Abstract: Provided is a multi-channel capacitive sensing circuit, in which at least one capacitive sensor has the capacitance changed corresponding to the change of external environment, and generates change signals corresponding to the capacitance change, respectively. An oscillator outputs a carrier wave modulating the capacitance change signal. At least one capacitance-to-voltage converter receives the capacitance change signals modulated by means of the carrier wave and outputs voltage signals corresponding to the modulated capacitance change signals, respectively. A multiplexer receives the voltage signals, selects any one of the voltage signals and sequentially outputs them. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) receives the voltage signals outputted from the multiplexer, converts them into digital voltage signals and outputs them. Accordingly, it is possible to output the capacitance change signals each generated in the at least one capacitance sensor to one ADC using the multiplexer.
Abstract: Optical sensor devices, image processing devices, methods and computer readable code computer-readable storage media for detecting biophysical parameters, chemical concentrations, chemical saturations, vital signs and physiological information such as a malignant condition are provided. The optical sensor includes an array of photodetectors, where each photodetector is configured to detect a spectrum of light. Exemplary physiological parameters include but are not limited to a pulse rate, a biophysical or physiological property of skin, a cardiovascular property, a property related to an organ such as the liver or the kidneys, and a temperature fluctuation. Alternatively one or more parameters are detected from a food item such as food tissue, a consumable beverage such as an alcoholic beverage, a dairy product, wine, a baked good, a fruit and a vegetable.
Abstract: A shopping cart has a basket having left and right sides, a floor, a rear wall and a front wall and has a handlebar. Squeezing the handlebar and moving it down causes a front wheel assembly to rotate from a down position in which the front wheels contact the ground toward a storage position in which the front wheels are positioned adjacent or above the floor. A rear wheel assembly is rotatable from a down position in which the rear wheels contact the ground to a storage position in which the rear wheels are positioned at or behind the rear wall. After positioning the loaded shopping cart adjacent a trunk vehicle, slide the cart and rotate the front and rear wheel assemblies, which may be lockable, to get the cart into the trunk for storage during transportation home. Reverse the process once home. The cart basket collapses into two dimensions for closet storage.
Abstract: A method of managing forward error correction (FEC) initialization and auto-negotiation in ethernet passive optical networks includes receiving FEC data from an optical network unit (ONU), and the optical line terminal (OLT) responds to the ONU with FEC data. Upon receiving data not forward error corrected from an ONU, the OLT responds with data not coded for FEC. Similarly, upon receiving forward error corrected data from the OLT, the ONU responds with forward error corrected data; and upon receiving data not forward error corrected from the OLT, the ONU responds with data not forward error corrected. The communications quality from the ONU is monitored, if the communications quality is not sufficient, the OLT transmits forward error corrected data to the ONU; otherwise, the OLT transmits non-FEC data to the ONU.
Abstract: A device for removing material from within the body, includes an elongated element formed from hollow segments sequentially interconnected at effective hinges. The device assumes an insertion configuration for insertion of the segments sequentially through an opening of a first dimension into the body. The system comprises an input unit for obtaining the source medical image having three dimensions or more, a feature extraction unit that is designed for obtaining a number of features of the body organ from the source medical image, and a classification unit that is designed for estimating a priority level according to the features.
Abstract: To monitor storm activity in real time, ELF signals generated in an Earth-ionosphere resonator are received via two active magnetic induction antennas, recorded, and sent to an electronic data processing unit for spectral analysis. The resulting power spectra are matched with resonance curves to parametrize the power spectra by a set of observation parameters that are based on ELF field resonance propagation models in the Earth-ionosphere resonator and that depend on distance and intensity of electrical spark discharges of storm cells. The observation parameters are compared with base parameters of a model parameter database. The base parameters that best approximate the observation parameters are used for developing a map of location and intensity of the electrical spark discharges.

Abstract: A cleaning solution used for cleaning oils and polluted industrial parts and a method for preparing cleaning solutions are disclosed. The cleaning solutions include (a) 1.0-5.5 wt-% alkali metasilicate agent, (b) 1.0-20.0 wt-% surface active agent, (c) 7.0-15.0 wt-% organic solvent, and (d) water. A method for preparing cleaning solutions includes the steps of (a) dissolving 1.0-8.0 wt-% alkali metasilicate powder in water forming a first solution, (b) dissolving 1.0-6.0 wt-% surface active agent and 7.0-20.0 wt-% organic solvent in a second solution, and (c) mixing the first and second solutions forming the cleaning solution.
Abstract: An OLT allocates a bandwidth budget and assigns upstream transmission order by receiving upstream transmission requests from a plurality of ONUs. Each ONU's request includes a requested guaranteed bandwidth and a requested best effort bandwidth. Each ONU has respective first and second attribute values. One attribute is given allocation priority over the other attribute. One attribute is given scheduling priority over the other attribute. Within each attribute, an allocation rank and a transmission rank is assigned to the possible attribute values. The bandwidth budget is allocated in accordance with the allocation priority and ranks. The upstream transmissions are scheduled in accordance with the scheduling priority and ranks.
Abstract: The invention relates generally to a cement or gypsum composition having improved properties, which is prepared by incorporating an enzyme into a cement material such as a cement, mortar, or concrete, or into a gypsum product. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for effecting a non-uniformity correction of images of a scene obtained with an array of detector elements are disclosed. A first image of the scene having a first integration period is acquired using the array of detector elements. A second image of the scene having a different integration period is acquired, and a corrected image of the scene is generated by computing a difference of the images. In some embodiments, the first and second images are images of substantially identical scenes. According to some embodiments, the images are infrared images. Optionally, the corrected image is subjected to further correction using pixel dependent correction coefficients, such as gain coefficients. Exemplary image detection elements include but are not limited to InSb detector elements and ternary detector elements, such as InAlSb, MCT (Mercury Cadmium Telluride), and QWIP technology (Quantum Well Infrared Photodiodes).
