  • Patent number: 8146159
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and media for inspecting security certificates. Methods include the steps of: scanning, by a network security device, messages of a security protocol between a server and a client system; detecting the messages having a security certificate; detecting suspicious security certificates from the messages; and aborting particular sessions of the security protocol associated with the suspicious certificates. Preferably, the step of scanning is performed only on messages of server certificate records. Preferably, the method further includes the step of: sending an invalid-certificate notice to the server and the client system. Preferably, the step of detecting the suspicious certificates includes detecting a use of an incorrectly-generated private key for the certificates. Preferably, the step of detecting the suspicious certificates includes detecting an unavailability of revocation information for the certificates.

  • Patent number: 8142505
Abstract: An intervertebral disc replacement has two members attached to vertebral body endplates of two adjacent vertebrae. The two members are formed with respective articulation surfaces which form at least part of an articulation arrangement. When loaded with compressive axial force, the articulation arrangement supports the vertebral contact surfaces against the compressive force to ensure a predefined minimum intervertebral spacing, and allows a range of turning motion in all directions. The articulation arrangement is formed to provide an increase in the intervertebral spacing as a smooth function of angular displacement from a neutral position over at least part of the range of motion in each direction for each direction of motion, thereby providing motion attenuation and restoring forces.

  • Patent number: 8136400
Abstract: A 3-dimensional MEMS accelerometer fabricated on a single planar substrate deploys three co-planar sensor elements. Each sensor element is a capacitive device deploying a static electrode plate and a parallel dynamic electrode plate supported by a torsion beam. The dynamic electrode plate also includes a proof mass portion that displaces the center of gravity to below the plane of the plate. Two of the sensor elements are identical and rotated by 90 degrees on the planar substrate. The third capacitive sensor has two pairs of adjacent capacitive plates, each one having a dynamic electrode plate is suspended by a torsion beam. The proof mass on each dynamic electrode plates however is offset laterally from the torsion axis in opposite directions from the other plates to cancel the their respective capacitance charges induced by in-plane acceleration. However, this arrangement also adds the capacitive change induced by acceleration orthogonal to the planar substrate.

  • Patent number: 8140394
Abstract: A payment system transfers funds from a purchaser to a supplier of goods and services. A single use transient credit code provided to the purchaser effects the transfer. The transient credit code is redeemable to a value limited to said transfer of funds thereby preventing subsequent fraudulent use of the code. The payment system apparatus transfers a payment from a purchaser to a supplier of goods and services. The apparatus incorporates a code issue device which keeps track of and generates a list of limited-value, single-use credit codes. The device issues the codes on request, receives notification of use of the codes and marks respective, ones as used. The transfer is done by single-use transient credit codes provided to the purchaser. The codes are redeemable to the value limited to a payment.

  • Patent number: 8126335
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for controlling transmission of converged data packets and for media access through a single next generation access (NGA) passive optical network (PON) which can coexist with EPON and GPON based systems and can interoperate with a 10 GEPON. A converged data packet is transmitted between a first node and a second node of the NGA network under NGA management control. The converged packet has a format which unifies a GEM header with the 10 GEPON preamble header and certain fields replaced in a EPON packet format to accommodate information corresponding to the preamble elements of a GEM packet. The converged data can be encoded in the line code of the 10 GEPON protocol, allowing use of a control protocol based either on MPCP or GTC for the NGA. Node apparatuses include NGA elements which enable preparation, encoding/decoding and transmission of converged packets.

  • Patent number: 8116526
Abstract: A method for displaying point-of-interest coordinate locations in perspective images and for coordinate-based information transfer between perspective images on different platforms includes providing a shared reference image of a region overlapping the field of view of the perspective view. The perspective view is then correlated with the shared reference image so as to generate a mapping between the two views. This mapping is then used to derive a location of a given coordinate from the shared reference image within the perspective view and the location is indicated in the context of the perspective view on a display.

  • Patent number: 8116791
Abstract: A method for sending a text message over a telephone network from a sending device to a receiving device. A set of images (or font) is selected by a user of the sending device. The text message is displayed using the set of images on the sending device as a presented rich content message. The sending device uploads the text message and one or more codes indicative of the set of images to a server operatively connected to the telephone network. A message is transmitted from the server to the receiving device, the message including information of the text message and of the set of images. The message presented on the receiving device is the same rich content message previously presented on the sending device. The rich content message presented at the sending and receiving devices preferably includes sounds associated with the set of images.
