Abstract: A novelty confectionery product having a prize includes first and second separable components forming a container including a handle and a stalk, the stalk projecting from the handle. The stalk includes a leg projecting from each component, the legs being encompassed within a solid confectionery portion which precludes separation of the legs and, hence, of the components. One of the two legs includes an end or terminus disposed closer to the surface of the confectionery portion than the other leg. The user need only remove increments of the confection to expose the shorter leg, thereby enabling separation of the legs and opening of the container while the remainder of the confectionery portion remains mounted on the longer leg.
Abstract: A fluid metering roll such as an anilox roll is comprised of a tubular carbon fiber composition core having one or more metallic layers intervening between the core and a surface layer comprised of ceramic, the ceramic having outwardly opening fluid metering cells. The method of forming the roll includes steps of thermal spray applying one or more layers comprised of metal over the roll surface the layers intervening between the roll and an external ceramic coating. Characterizing features of the application method reside in each of the thermal spray applied layers being directed toward the core at a negative rake angle of from about 111/2.degree. to about 131/2.degree. and preferably 121/2.degree., the core and layers which receive the thermal spray being simultaneously cooled to about 110.degree. Centigrade or less during application of the thermal spray.
Abstract: An actuator assembly for a multi-blade damper includes a base plate having slots extending longitudinally thereof and slidably receiving drive portions of the louver shafts. A series of drive slots extending generally perpendicular to the clearance slots is formed at each side of the clearance slots. A series of link assemblies are keyed to the shafts, the link assemblies including actuator pins extending into selected ones of the drive slots. A clamp connection interposed between the link and drive portion of the louvers permits relative adjustment of the link relative to the louver. Movement of the base plate parallel to the plane defined by the axes of the louvers results in tilting of the louvers in a selected direction, dependent upon which of the series of drive slots is occupied by a pin of a respective link.
Abstract: A miniaturized surface mountable tombstoning resistant electronic component is disclosed. The terminals of the component are respectively L and J shaped conductive metal portions. The portions of the terminations covering the ends of the components are formed of a non-solder, wettable conductive metal, whereas the portions of the terminations underlying the bottom surface of the component are comprised of solder wettable metal. The disclosure further relates to a method of manufacturing the described termination structures.
Abstract: A floor mountable air outlet adapted to distribute a generally vertical or a generally horizontal air stream is disclosed. The outlet includes an uppermost plate having an inner and an outer series of openings inclined relative to the plane of the plate. The plate forms the upper surface of a cylinder and there is mounted within the cylinder a disk shiftable toward and away from the plate. In the uppermost position of the disk the inner series of openings is blocked resulting in a generally vertical air flow, whereas in the lowered position of the disk a generally horizontal flow is obtained.
Abstract: A floor well air distribution outlet for forming a trumpet shaped air stream includes a cylindrical casing the open upper end of which is covered by a distribution disk having radially extending slots. A plate spaced below and parallel to said disk includes an inflow opening concentric with the disk. The radial outermost extremities of the slots are defined by soffits sloping downwardly toward the axis of the disk. A first series of soffits is inclined at a steeper angle than the soffits of a second series intervening between the first series. A cover plate includes radially extending tongues partially overlying the slots, the radial extent of the tongues being such as to overlie the innermost radial extremity of the slots of the second series only. A valve is vertically shiftable between two positions respectively unblocking or blocking the inflow opening.
Abstract: An insulation support pin extender is disclosed for engaging insulation batts of thickness greater than can be accommodated by known support pins. The extender comprises a tubular oval shank adapted to encompass the tine of a mounted support pin, the extender including a projecting shaft defining an extension of the shank. The shaft includes a rib to render same resistant to bending, except at positions in registry with paired recesses formed at the sides of the shaft.
Abstract: An apparatus and method of forming air turning assemblies is disclosed along with a novel vane supporting rail structure for use therewith. The apparatus holds a pair of rails in spaced parallel relation at a clinching station at which the edges of a vane may be engaged in opposed slotted protuberances in the rails. The spacing of the rails may be increased at the station against a yieldable biasing force, the station including a deforming mechanism for deflecting the vane edges to lock the vanes to the rails. The rails include cam surfaces leading to the vane receiving slots and blocking walls at the trailing ends of the slots to facilitate introducing the vane edges into the slots.
Abstract: This invention relates to an insert for fixation of a railway clip comprising an inner conduit, parallel to the rail, intended to receive the rectilinear central portion of the clip, a horizontal rear face on which abuts the rear portion, parallel to the rail, of the clip which is joined to the central portion by a 180.degree. bend and which then extends towards the rail, above the inner conduit, by a substantially perpendicular loop whose end comes into abutment on an insulating stop resting on the base of the rail, wherein the upper face of the insert comprises, towards the inlet orifice of the inner conduit, a retaining boss against which the loop of the clip comes into bearing contact to maintain the clip in a position of equilibrium, where the free end of the central portion is placed in the inlet orifice of the inner conduit.
Abstract: A contact free flow meter for determining the velocities and/or flow directions of electrically-conductive fluids is disclosed. At least one primary magnetic field is arrayed generally perpendicular to the flow path, the field having strength gradients extending along the flow path. At least two magnetic field sensors are spaced apart in the direction of the flow path the sensor being responsive to the magnetic field. The device is capable of functioning notwithstanding electrically-conductive material such as pipe walls interposed between the fluid and the meter.
Abstract: A fabric anchor device for attachment to awnings or the like for holding awning retaining ropes. The device comprises a woven fabric strip having a central reinforcing spine defined by paired high tensile strength reinforcement warp yarns. The spine includes a series of mutually spaced apart attachment apertures, the respective reinforcement yarns lying on opposite sides of the apertures.

Abstract: A compensating positive drive rotary shaft seal assembly comprises a two-part housing, each housing part including a radially directed stator surface surrounding the shaft. A collar is keyed to the shaft between the stators, and an axially shiftable rotor is interposed between the collar and each stator. The rotors are positively coupled to the collar for rotation with the shaft. An elastomeric annular seal is mounted on the shaft between each rotor and the collar. The housing parts are axially shiftable toward and away from each other adjustably to compress the elastomeric seals and yieldably bias the rotors against the stators. An internal annular gasket spanning the housing parts encompasses the seal assembly and defines a sealed chamber coupled to one or more purge ducts.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing solid state capacitors involves providing an elongate band of solid state forming metal, folding the band into a trough-like U-shaped configuration, introducing a layer of solid state metal powder into the trough, sintering the powdered metal to thereby bond the metal to the foil, partially severing the foil and sintered powder to define a multiplicity of individual units which are thereafter processed to convert the units into capacitors by sequential dielectric forming and counterelectrode depositing steps. The individual capacitors are terminated and preferably also may be tested while still interconnected by portions of the foil, following which individual capacitors are separated by cuts which register with the initial cuts which defined the individual units. The disclosure further teaches a novel solid state capacitor fabricated in accordance with the method, the capacitor exhibiting high volumetric efficiency and being particularly adapted for surface mounting.

Abstract: A ceramic capacitor and method of making same is disclosed. The capacitor is trapezoidal in longitudinal section with the electrodes exposed at the angled ends of the trapezoid. The ends face generally in the same direction such that both ends may be simultaneously exposed to a sputtering or vapor deposition procedure and thus sputtered in a single operation without requiring re-masking. The sputtering step, in addition to providing terminations, functions to mechanically couple a multiplicity of capacitors into a compact grouping from which one or more capacitors may be readily extracted.
Abstract: An air vent for the generation of high turbulence air jets is comprised of a rotationally symmetrical casing having a flared discharge mouth. A deflector plate is mounted in the plane of the mouth to define with the mouth an annular discharge opening. An air guide is mounted within the casing that includes an annular flared deflector portion located adjacent the discharge mouth of the casing. Radially extending twist paddles or fins are mounted on the air guide to impart a twist to the air stream. The air guide is preferably adjustably mounted within the casing for movement axially thereof whereby when the deflector portion of the guide is disposed above the plane of the mouth portion a spreading of the air stream is achieved, and when the deflector is located below the plane of the mouth portion a concentration of the stream is achieved, intermediate effects being achieved at intermediate positions of the guide relative to the casing.
Abstract: An article of manufacture comprises an elongate strip or reel of separable metallic segments having pressure sensitive backing tape secured thereto. The segments include a cutout defining an elongate tine bendable to right angles to the main body portion of the segment. The tines include a longitudinally directed reenforcing rib, the side edges of the tine and the rib being formed with aligned notches enabling the fine to be bent at right angles in registry with the notches. A washer is provided which may be sleeved over the tine, the washer including an aperture configured such that when the washer is mounted over the tine and rotated, the washer will be locked to the tine.

Abstract: For tempering the surface of a body, the body is covered with a sheath of at least one meltable active substance and binder material and heated under vacuum or in an inert atmosphere first to a temperature whereby the sheath is transformed into a porous cover layer with outer crust. Then the temperature is raised until the meltable active substance contained in the cover layer is evaporated. On the one hand, the meltable active substance seals the outer side of the cover layer, and on the other hand, the meltable active substance produces the tempered surface of the body. After the body has cooled, the residues of the cover layer are removed. The body is provided with a pore-free resistant surface.
