  • Patent number: 5291815
Abstract: For dividing a chunk of material which comprises areas tending to deform as well as rigid areas, a cutter with a spiral cutting edge is provided. The cutting edge has two sections of which the first in the direction of rotation, is unserrated and undergoes a relatively rapid increase of radius. The second section in the direction of rotation is serrated and follows a minimal increase of radius. With a cutter thus designed, material can be cut smoothly in the region of its deformable portion and can be sawed just as smoothly in the region of its rigid portion.

  • Patent number: 5285556
Abstract: An integral polymeric clamp device is disclosed. The clamp device is comprised of a base portion to which is hingedly connected a two arm clamping assembly actuable from an open position to a closed position wherein a component of a second arm of the assembly clampingly engages a stop surface formed on the base of the assembly. The arms are locked in clamping position when a hinged connection between the arms shifts from a first to a second side of a line extending between the stop surface and the hinged connection of the first arm to the body portion Movement of the clamp member into engagement with the fixed stop portion on the body of the clamp is assured by a locator link hingedly interposed between the body portion and the arm carrying the moving component of the clamp assembly.

  • Patent number: 5243840
Abstract: A textile treatment apparatus for an endless textile hank is comprised of a vessel having a dwell or treatment zone at a lower portion thereof and an upper acceleration or feed zone above said dwell zone. A blower assembly mounted in the roof the vessel above the acceleration zone advances the hank by subjecting said to a purely gaseous stream so as to remove the hank from the exit of the dwell zone and introduce it into the entrance of such zone. Treatment nozzles located at the entry to the dwell zone saturate the hank and aid in guiding it unimpeded into the dwell zone. The location of the blower assembly or assemblies at the upper extremity of the vessel facilitate servicing and minimize fluid introduction into the gaseous feed stream.

  • Patent number: 5242413
Abstract: A valve element adapted to be positioned in the infeed for a catheter is disclosed. By slits in Y arrangement relative to each other, an automatically closable passage opening is formed therein. The passage is especially easy to locate for the catheter tip due to the fact that the valve element is provided on its proximal side with a truncated cone-shaped recess. In addition, due to the recess the flexibility of the gussets of material defined by the slits is enhanced, which gussets sealingly hug the outside of the catheter when the catheter is present The distal face of the valve may be provided also with a truncated cone-shaped recess.

  • Patent number: 5235851
Abstract: A device and method for obtaining a direct reading of the cell volume of the cells of an anilox roller is disclosed. The device includes a transparent strip to be applied against the surface of an anilox roll to be measured, the undersurface of the strip including a seal area surrounding an elongate channel. Fluid is introduced into the channel and is spread along the surface of the roll by forcing the portions of the strip defining the upper surface of the channel against the roll surface to fill the cells in registry with the channel. A reading is obtained in accordance with the length of the channel which is filled by the fluid. Index markings may be provided on the strip to permit a direct readout of cell volume.

  • Patent number: 5236638
Abstract: For the production of a shaped body of graphite with a reaction-bound Si/SiC coating it is proposed to bring the shaped body--provided with a slip layer of a homogenized mixture, heated and gassed under vacuum with gaseous silicon or impregnated with liquid silicon--to a form of predetermined dimensions. • Patent number: 5233752
Abstract: A portable apparatus for forming an air turning assembly comprises upper and lower rail retaining tracks which are yieldably biased toward each other. Vane distorting chisels are mounted in spaced relation below the lower track and a staking assembly, movable longitudinally so as to sequentially register with the chisels, is mounted above the upper track. The staking assembly is shiftable toward the fixed chisels beneath the lower track whereby edges of a vane temporarily mounted between the rails may be staked in a single operation to both rails, downward movement of the staking chisels being effected to deform portions of the vane above the upper rail, such downward movement also functioning bodily to shift the rails and vane downwardly, such the portions of the vane below the lower rail are deformed by the chisels below the lower rail.

  • Patent number: 5234641
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an improved visitor or capacitor, and the resultant improved varistor or capacitor is described. In accordance with the method the ceramic layers of the varistor are formed by providing at least two strata separated by a boundary layer which resists grain growth thereacross. The ceramic body is sintered under temperature conditions sufficiently low that grain growth within the strata defining the ceramic layers is restricted to the strata such that grain growth across the boundary material is minimized. By this method the ceramic layers have a predictable number of grain boundaries between adjacent electrodes.

  • Patent number: 5217514
Abstract: A filtering device for a tenter for the gaseous treatment of fabrics includes a movable filtering belt which traverses the entire length and cross section of the tenter. Pressure nozzles on the clean side of the belt dislodge collected materials into waste collectors which are in communication with discharge dusts traversed by the belt, the belt thus filters gases returned for internal circulation and gases emitted to the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 5216573
Abstract: A method for manufacturing ceramic capacitors of the lead filled type comprises coating the end surfaces of a ceramic monolith having internal voids opening to the ends with a termination paste. The paste includes glass frit, a metal component wettable by lead, i.e. silver, binder and solvent, the characterizing feature of the paste being the inclusion of reducible metal salts of a metal wettable by lead, the salts undergoing volumetric diminution when reduced from the salt to the metallic state. When the termination paste is sintered, reduction of the metallic salt provides the termination with a porous latticework. Molten lead or lead alloys are injected through the now porous, sintered termination paste. The disclosure further relates to a capacitor made in accordance with the method described.

  • Patent number: 5213578
Abstract: To securely introduce the distal tip of a spinal cannula through an epidural cannula into a spinal canal, a mandrel is placed in the epidural cannula. The mandrel is provided with a recess or guideway extending over its length. The guideway is aligned with an axial opening in the epidural cannula, so that the spinal cannula, when pushed forward through the recess, is guided positively to the axial opening and can pass through it unhindered, in order to get into the spinal canal. The mandrel includes a radially offset distal portion which enters and seals a curved, offset portion of the epidural cannula to avoid coring of tissue and to snap fittedly connect the mandrel and epidural cannula.
