  • Patent number: 4116320
Abstract: In the hub clutch disclosed, an external annular body coaxially encircles a drive member and is radially spaced from it. An annular clutch member, coaxial with the drive member and the body, is rigid in rotation with the body but is axially movable for selective engagement and disengagement with the drive member as regards rotation. An axially movable actuator for the clutch member is connected to and spaced coaxially from the clutch member by spring connecting means. An axially fixed cover has a rim coaxially encircling the body and has an end wall axially spaced from the body and the drive member, the cover being rotatable relative to the body. The end wall and the actuator have axially extending cam formations which cooperate to cause axial motion of the actuator upon rotation of the cover relative to the body, the actuator being urged towards the end wall by spring biasing means.

  • Patent number: 4116892
Abstract: There is disclosed a novel process and product produced thereby for the selective stretching of incremental portions of a substrate of a synthetic thermoplastic material selected from the group consisting of a thermoplastic orientable polymer or a blend of a thermoplastic orientable copolymer in which there is admixed an incompatible second phase selected the group consisting of an incompatible polymer or inorganic material. The substrate is stretched in grooved roller pairs by controlling the velocity of introduction of the substrate to maintain the velocity substantially identical to the surface velocity of the roller pair. Stretching of the blends produce an opaque, low density porous sheet.

  • Patent number: 4113786
Abstract: Process for recovering hydrogen chloride from a gas withdrawn from an oxychlorination reaction zone which contains hydrogen chloride and water vapor wherein the gas is initially cooled, followed by contacting the gas with a small amount of water to absorb the hydrogen chloride from the gas. The water content is controlled to provide an aqueous hydrogen chloride stream having a hydrogen chloride concentration of from 10% to 20%, with the absorbed aqueous hydrogen chloride being recycled to the oxychlorination reaction. A dilute aqueous hydrogen chloride stream, obtained from another portion of the process, may be employed in the initial cooling step, as a direct quench, resulting in vaporization of the dilute aqueous hydrogen chloride stream and eliminating the necessity for a hydrogen chloride concentrator.

  • Patent number: 4113603
Abstract: A pyrolysis gasoline, containing dienes and mercaptan sulphur is hydrotreated in a first stage in the presence of a non-noble metal catalyst under conditions primarily designed to effect mercaptan sulphur reduction, rather than diene reduction, followed by hydrotreating in a second stage in the presence of a noble metal catalyst to effect the desired reduction in diene value. The two stage treatment results in a stable pyrolysis gasoline product free of excessive polymer requiring no re-distillation, with "doctor sweet" quality, with the treatment being effected at higher space velocities and lower temperatures than those normally employed.

  • Patent number: 4111107
Abstract: Double walled smokestack apparatus is provided in accordance with the teachings of the instant invention having substantially independent, load bearing inner and outer portions which are concentrically disposed to form a thermally insulating air space therebetween. This is achieved according to an exemplary embodiment by providing breeching and top cap arrangements intermediate the inner and outer portions which are configured in such manner to accommodate differential thermal expansion between the inner and outer portions without an attendant coupling of load. In addition, the inner and outer portions are fixedly interconnected proximate a mounting pad location where the moment of force of the inner shell is substantially zero.

  • Patent number: 4101225
Abstract: The invention relates to an applicator, especially for pigmented liquids, including a container for the liquid, open at one end, but closable by means of a handle which can be fitted on its open end. The handle element carries a shaft and on the free end thereof is provided an overhanging capillary applicator tip. In order to ensure, on the one hand, in such an instrument, a reliable feed of the applicator tip with the liquid and, on the other hand, to prevent an unintentional emergence, especially splashing, of liquid when the instrument is open, it is proposed, according to the principle of the invention, to close the liquid container by means of an inset element, which has transverse slots forming capillary channels, which slots on the one hand reliably convey the liquid to the applicator tip and, on the other hand, prevent excessive issue of liquid.
