Abstract: A casting or splinting material in powder form is a mixture of particles of (a) a water-soluble cross-linkable polymer containing carboxylic acid groups, such as polyacrylic acid and (b) zinc oxide and/or one or more zinc salts, this latter material being at least partly coated to reduce its surface reactivity with an organic acid e.g. an aliphatic fatty acid containing from 6 to 20 carbon atoms per molecule. Such material, that can for example be provided as a loading on a Leno gauze, can be made up as a slurry in a volatile organic liquid for coating purposes.
Abstract: Sterilizing apparatus is provided in accordance with the teachings of the instant invention wherein a programmed cycle of operation is initiated and maintained unless electrical failure occurs. According to one exemplary embodiment, upon activation and cycle initiation, a door to a sterilizing chamber is locked and a control relay is latched in an enabled condition. The enabling of the control relay energizes a heater disposed in a heating relationship to the sterilizing chamber and the heat generated within said sterilizing chamber is monitored by a sensor which selectively controls the heater to maintain a selected heat within the sterilizing chamber. When a predetermined temperature within the sterilizing chamber is detected a timer is initiated for the sterilization cycle selected.
Abstract: In the oxychlorination of a hydrocarbon, the ratio of hydrocarbon feed to hydrogen chloride feed is maintained within set limits in response to changes in the concentration of aqueous hydrogen chloride recovered from the oxychlorination effluent. The concentration of aqueous hydrogen chloride recovered from the effluent may be determined either by conductivity and/or density.
Abstract: There is disclosed a vessel having natural gas liquefaction capabilities formed of a plurality of self-contained liquefaction assemblies, each of which being disposed in a separate liquefaction compartment.
Abstract: There is disclosed a separator device for singularly passing to a transport member a rectangular sheet of material from a stack of such sheets accommodated in a storage cassette having a rectangular slotted sheet discharge opening. The cassette is provided with a hold-down plate for pressing the uppermost sheet against a bulge forming means disposed adjacent the discharge opening and comprised of a pushing member. The bulge forming means is controlled by a first cam disc adapted to perform a reciprocating movement to engage the leading edge of the uppermost sheet whereby such sheet is partly released from the stack by bulging at the discharge opening.

Abstract: A punching machine for use in punching holes in the sides of articles incorporating two C-shaped assemblies forming punching tool supports and guided within the machine in such a way that they can be displaced and moved away from each other. Means are provided for placing the assemblies, on the one hand, in a working position, in which the position of a punch tool on one of the tool supports is maintained at a predetermined distance from a guide plane coinciding with a guiding surface on the article to be drilled, and in which the spacing of the tool supports is maintained at a predetermined value, and on the other hand, in a position for rotation of the article to be drilled, such that each assembly is displaced in relation to its working position in the sense of an increase in the distance separating the two assemblies.
Abstract: Insoluble materials are separated from a coal liquefaction product having a quinoline insoluble content of greater than 15 wt. % by diluting the product with a diluent which is a solvent for the components which are quinoline soluble and benzene insoluble, with the diluent being added in an amount to provide a mixture having a quinoline insoluble content of no greater than 13 wt. %. Insoluble material is then separated by gravity settling in the presence of a promoter liquid having a 5 volume percent distillation temperature of at least 250.degree. F and a 95 volume percent distillation temperature of at least 350.degree. F and no greater than 750.degree. F, with the promoter liquid having a characterization factor of at least 9.75.
Abstract: A system for electro-optically correlating two signals. A running representation of the amplitude variation of a first signal is observed through a mask representing the amplitude variation of a second signal. Means are provided for integrating the resultant light signal and for generating an electrical output signal representing the correlation function of the first and the second signal.

Abstract: In the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons, a gas stream containing unreacted hydrocarbon, carbon dioxide, and chlorinated hydrocarbon(s) is contacted with an acid gas absorption solution to absorb carbon dioxide, with the absorption solution being stripped of any absorbed chlorinated hydrocarbon, preferably by use of feed hydrocarbon as stripping gas, without stripping of carbon dioxide therefrom, to maintain the rich absorption solution introduced into the carbon dioxide stripper essentially free of absorbed chlorinated hydrocarbons.
Abstract: A molten mixture containing the higher and lower valent forms of a multivalent metal chloride; in particular, cuprous and cupric chloride, is contacted with oxygen, and aqueous hydrogen chloride recycle, to recover the chlorine values by generation of the higher valent metal chloride and also effect oxidation of the melt by production of the oxychloride. The gas withdrawn from the oxidation contains hydrogen chloride, chlorine and water vapor, with the hydrogen chloride being separate from the gas as aqueous hydrogen chloride and recycle to the oxidation. The chlorine and water vapor in the gas are contacted with activated carbon to produce hydrogen chloride, which is separated as aqueous hydrogen chloride and recycled to the oxidation.

Abstract: Process for producing a chlorinated hydrocarbon by the use of molten salts containing a multivalent metal chloride in its higher and lower valence states by oxidation of the molten salt in an oxidation reactor and use of the oxidized salt in an oxychlorination/chlorination reactor for production of chlorinated hydrocarbons wherein gaseous effluent withdrawn from the oxidation reactor is employed as lift gas for lifting the molten salts for introduction into the upper portions of the oxidation reactor and oxychlorination/chlorination reactor, with the work being provided by expansion of the oxidizer effluent. In this manner, the need for a lift gas compressor is eliminated.
