Abstract: A transalkylation process for the preparation of dihydric phenols comprising reacting, in the presence of an acid or base catalyst, at least one mole of an aromatic monohydroxy compound such as a phenol with at least one mole of an aromatic dihydroxy compound such as a dihydric phenol, thereby forming at least one dihydric phenol which is different than said aromatic dihydroxy compound.
Abstract: Copolyester-carbonate resin containing composition comprising, in physical admixture:(i) at least one aromatic copolyester-carbonate resin;(ii) at least one aromatic polycarbonate resin;(iii) at least one amorphous polyester resin; and(iv) at least one polymer selected from(a) an olefin acrylate copolymer,(b) a polyolefin, and(c) an olefin diene trepolymer.This composition contains amounts of components (ii)-(iv) effective to improve the resistance to mild organic solvents and the impact properties of the copolyester-carbonate resin.
Abstract: A composition comprising an end-capped aromatic carbonate polymer wherein the end-cap is of the structure ##STR1## wherein R is ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are alkyl of one to six carbon atoms, inclusive; cycloalkyl of four to seven carbon atoms, inclusive; phenyl; one to three alkyl substituted phenyl each alkyl having one to three carbon atoms, inclusive; and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a ring of four to six carbon atoms; and wherein R.sub.3 is alkyl of one to ten carbon atoms, inclusive; or cycloalkyl of four to eight carbon atoms, inclusive.

Abstract: A process of molding a polymer admixture with improved compatability which comprises, preparing an admixture of (i) an aromatic carbonate polymer, (ii) a polyolefin or modified polyolefin in sufficient quantity to impact modify the aromatic carbonate polymer, and (iii) an amount of catalyst sufficient to compatibilize (i) and (ii) selected from the group consisting of basic compounds of alkali or alkaline earth metals and molding said admixture.
Abstract: Polycarbonates exhibiting improved heat distortion temperatures which are comprised of the polymerized coreaction products of (i) a carbonate precursor, and (ii) at least one particular spiro dihydric phenol. These carbonate polymers are useful in the production of molded articles, sheet glazing materials, and films.
Abstract: Soft coated shaped polycarbonate articles exhibiting improved resistance of the polycarbonate substrate to degradation by the plasticizers contained in the relatively soft top coat comprised of, in combination:(i) a shaped polycarbonate substrate;(ii) a protective intermediate layer disposed on said polycarbonate substrate comprised of at least one ply of a resinous material exhibiting plasticizer barrier properties, thermoformability, heat resistance, and compartibility with the underlying polycarbonate; and(iii) a relatively soft plasticized top coat comprised of at least one resinous material disposed on said intermediate layer.The substrate, intermediate layer, and top coat are all bonded together by means of suitable adhesives.
Abstract: Aromatic copolyester-carbonates derived from a carbonate precursor, at least one difunctional carboxylic acid or a reactive derivative thereof, and at least one branched alkylidene dihydric phenol represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein: R and R' are independently selected from halogen and monovalent hydrocarbon radicals;R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 are independently selected from hydrogen and alkyl radicals;R.sup.2 is selected from alkyl radicals, with the proviso that if R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 are both hydrogen then R.sup.2 is selected from branched alkyl radicals containing at least three carbon atoms; andn and n' are independently selected from whole numbers having a value of from 0 to 4 inclusive.These copolyester-carbonates are useful in making molded articles, films, and the like.
Abstract: A multilayer structure comprising an outer layer of aromatic polycarbonate, an outer layer of a polyolefin and a tie layer between the aromatic polycarbonate and polyolefin layer, such tie layer comprising a copolymer of an olefin and an acrylate.

Abstract: A multilayer structure comprising an outer layer of aromatic polycarbonate and an outer layer of a polyolefin, said outer layers tied together with a layer comprising an admixture of a polyolefin and a polyalkylene terephthalate, the polyalkylene terephthalate present in said quantities in the tie layer so as to provide adhesion between the outer layers.
