Abstract: A novel thermoplastic composition is disclosed which is based on polyolefin and a block copolymer of a dihydric phenolic monomer, a carbonate precursor and a polyphenylene oxide resin. These compositions may be used as molding resins and have better compatibility than admixtures of aromatic polycarbonate and a polyolefin.

The polymers are useful in injection molded articles.

Abstract: Amidines are one of the strongest organic bases and find application where this property is needed, such as in phase transfer catalysis in the form of their substituted derivatives. Their use, however, has been hampered by their expensive nature due to only mediocre yields in their preparation. The present invention provides a process for the preparation of substituted amidines in essentially quantitative yields.
Abstract: Hydrazides of the formula ##STR1## are good curing agents for epoxy resin. The curing agents are useful in formulating novel storable one-package, heat-curable epoxy resin-based compositions.

Abstract: Novel polycarbonates are provided which exhibit rubbery and elastomeric properties which are the polymerized reaction products of:(i) a carbonate precursor; and(ii) at least one dihydric phenol represented by the general formula ##STR1## wherein R is selected from straight chain alkyl radicals containing from 8 to about 30 carbon atoms;each R.sup.1 is independently selected from halogen monovalent hydrocarbon, and monovalent hydrocarbonoxy radicals;each R.sup.2 is independently selected from halogen, monovalent hydrocarbon, and monovalent hydrocarbonoxy radicals; andn and n' are independently selected from whole numbers having a value of from 0 to 4 inclusive.

Abstract: Novel triphenolic compounds having utility as branching agents and randomly branched polycarbonates useful for blow molding. The triphenolic compounds are reaction products of phenols and diketones. The triphenols can be unsubstituted, or substituted with alkyl groups, alkoxy groups or halogen radicals, or mixtures thereof.
