  • Patent number: 5252873
Abstract: A DC brushless motor for use in various kinds of electric appliances comprises a rotor portion, and this rotor portion includes a rotating shaft and a cylindrical permanent magnet which is rotated with the shaft. A stator portion is provided opposite to the rotor portion, and includes an armature which is located at the inner side of the cylindrical permanent magnet so as to be opposite to and coaxial with the magnet. The armature is provided with a plurality of coils on its peripheries, and has an annular shape as a whole. A circuit board is disposed to be substantially perpendicular to the axis line of the rotating shaft, and the armature is supported above the circuit board. The rotating shaft terminates substantially at the middle of the height of the motor, thus leaving a space between the rotating shaft and the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5248442
Abstract: A method and means for measuring a characteristic, in particular one associated with particle size, of any of the feed, underflow or overflow streams of a hydrocyclone is provided. Information as to the flowrate and density of the feed stream as well as the angle of flare or other related variable associated with the shape of the underflow stream are fed to processing means which applies a formula or algorithm, which is usually empirically derived, to such information to provide a value of the required characteristic. The characteristic may be related to particle size, particle size distribution in any of the streams or the liquid content or the flowrates of solids or liquids in the underflow or overflow. Measurement apparatus comprising a dedicated hydrocyclone is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5247169
Abstract: An object to be inspected is, for example, a medical capsule having differently colored surface areas. A beam splitter divides light reflected by the surface of the object into two parts. Each of the divided parts of the light is passed through an optical filter whose transmission wavelength range is set according to the colors of the object, to adjust the quantity of transmitted light from a high-brightness part of the object surface and the quantity of transmitted light from a low-brightness part of the object surface to a reference level. Image pick-up elements pick up images of the object surface according to the divided parts of the light and provide image signals. One of the image signals is selected and provided outside. Unlike a prior art that adjusts levels of signals by amplifying the signals according to brightness of an inspected object, the method and apparatus of the invention do not involve amplification.

  • Patent number: 5246008
Abstract: A method for monitoring a patient for rejection reactions to an implanted organ is provided with an implantable telemetry measuring unit with electrodes that can be implanted in the organ. An electric current is passed through the body tissue via two current electrodes. The impedance of the body tissue through which this current is flowing is determined with two measuring electrodes. Each of the measuring electrodes annularly surrounds one and only one current electrode. The electrodes are embedded in a support element such that they project from this support element only with their front end.

  • Patent number: 5243960
Abstract: A power driven workpiece infeed conveyor supports a honeycomb-stone-honeycomb laminate on edge for feeding to an elevator conveyor in a work station. A fixed rear vertical panel of vacuum pads and a forward movable vertical panel of vacuum pads are separated by a space into which the workpiece is lifted by the elevator conveyor. The forward movable panel is moved rearwardly to cause the vacuum pad panels to engage front and rear surfaces of the workpiece and a source of vacuum is connected to the vacuum pads. The elevator conveyor is then lowered so that the workpiece is supported solely by the vacuum pads. A driven horizontal cutter wire flight then moves downwardly through the entire vertical dimension of the stone slab center portion of the workpiece to cut the workpiece into two stone-honeycomb panels.

  • Patent number: 5245385
Abstract: An image forming apparatus reduces the level of noise escaping therefrom via an opening. The noise is generated from a motor which drives an image forming part in the image forming apparatus, from a radiator fan which radiates heat inside the apparatus to the outside via the opening, and from an exhaust fan which passes harmful air through a filter and then exhausts harmless air to the outside via the opening. The image forming apparatus generates a predetermined sound wave and collides it with the noise so that the predetermined sound wave and noise cancel each other out.

  • Patent number: 5245141
Abstract: A composite structure with sound-insulating and sound-damping effects for use on the interior surfaces of motor vehicles, comprising at least two groups of coatings resting loosely on one another. In particular, the first group consists of a bottom part (2) free to vibrate and provided with coatings (6) or a finish like that used in modern motor vehicle construction. Preferably the applied second group of coatings consists of an insulating coating (8, 9). This insulating coating can be provided with an additional protective layer (7) and/or a textile or textile-like decorative layer (5). According to the invention, insulating coating (8, 9) exhibits anisotropic air flow resistance. This is achieved in simple fashion by a carrier layer (9) with a geometric structure and a plurality of support 15 elements (13).
