  • Patent number: 5299308
Abstract: The tones (or densities) of individual edge pixels of vector data are determined by first dividing each edge pixel into subpixels, after which the thus-determined tones are fed to a laser printer or other output unit. Advantageously, the present invention smooths jagged edges by performing an anti-aliasing process. To achieve this smoothing of graphic data, any of a variety of filters, each having particular weights, are used for the process of dividing edge pixels into subpixels.

  • Patent number: 5297074
Abstract: Disclosed is a roll-off filter apparatus having a small size, a simplified circuit structure and consuming a small amount of power. In the roll-off filter apparatus attaining the above object of the invention, a ramp signal generated from a ramp pattern generator is inserted in each gap of a data input signal temporarily stored in a buffer circuit, and such a signal is filtered in a switched capacitor filter having a roll-off filter characteristic. The output signal of the switched capacitor filter is supplied to be temporarily stored in a bucket brigade device, and the output signal of the bucket brigade device is delivered at a desired signal rate.

  • Patent number: 5295749
Abstract: A double-row spherical roller bearing comprises an inner race, an outer race, two retainers each molded of a synthetic resin, and double-rows of spherical rollers rotatably received in pockets of the retainers and arranged one after another in the equally spaced relationship in the circumferential direction. Each retainer is molded such that an annular portion on the large diameter side and an annular portion on the small diameter side are integrally jointed to each other with a plurality of retainer bars bridges therebetween. Each retainer bar comprises an inner portion located on the inner race side and an outer portion on the outer race side. Each side surface of the inner portion is defined by a part of the spherical surface extending around the spherical surface of each spherical roller. In addition, each side surface of the outer portion is defined by a first surface, a second surface and a third surface.

  • Patent number: 5296152
Abstract: A disk filter for filtering mat forming suspensions is provided with a hollow shaft for receiving a flow of fine fraction created by hydrostatic pressure difference between the suspension to be filtered and the fine fraction in the hollow shaft. According to the invention, each disc is provided with a number of fine fraction chambers communicating with the interior of the hollow shaft via respective holes in the circumferential wall of the shaft. Each chamber is arranged, such that it functions as a dropleg during movement upwards, with the result that the coarse particle (fibre) concentration of the created coarse fraction is increased.

  • Patent number: 5297109
Abstract: The objects of the present invention are achieved by a method and means for temporarily suspending sonar beam transducer means on a dihedral wing body at a first underwater location within sonar beam range of said scoured area; scanning a first portion of said scoured area with said sonar beam in a first substantially vertical plane that points in a first azimuth direction, so as to generate signals indicative of the range and bearing of said scanned first portion from said transducer means; and scanning at least a second different portion of said scoured area with said sonar beam in a second different substantially vertical plane that points in a second different azimuth direction, so as to generate signals indicative of the range and bearing of said scanned second portion from said transducer means. In actual practice, scanning by the sonar beam occurs in many different vertical planes and also can be done from different underwater locations.

  • Patent number: 5297272
Abstract: A system and method for upgrading a computer is disclosed. Certain essential chips present in the original computer system are functionally, but not physically, removed from the computer system. The functions which would otherwise be performed by the original chips are instead performed by higher-performance chips on a plug-in module which is plugged into the computer system. The functional removal of the certain chips from the original computer system is achieved through simple insertion of the plug-in module. No replacement or substitution of original chips or boards is necessary.

  • Patent number: 5296143
Abstract: An apparatus for filtering liquids, such as fibre pulp suspensions, includes annular hollow filter discs each of which has two annular liquid pervious, opposed walls covered with filter material, spray nozzle means for cleaning the filter material, and means providing relative movement between the filter material and spray nozzle means. The annular opposed walls of each filter disc are only attached to each other at their radially outer ends, whereas they are spaced from each other at their radially inner ends, such that an annular opening is defined between the interior of the filter disc and a filtrate chamber extending centrally through the filter discs. The spray nozzle means extends from the filtrate chamber through the annular opening into each filter disc. As a result, an extremely pure fine fraction can be produced, clogging of the filtering material is efficiently counteracted, and the operative part of the filter material can be increased.

  • Patent number: 5296506
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, taxol is treated with mesyl chloride to prepare a taxol derivative with a contracted A-ring, which has comparable activity to taxol in a tubulin depolymerization assay, and which shows cytotoxicity against KB cells in a cell culture assay. In an alternate preferred embodiment, taxol is treated with triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate (Meerwein's reagent) to produce a taxol derivative with an opened oxetane ring. In another alternate preferred embodiment, reaction of taxol with acetyl chloride yields a taxol derivative in which the oxetane ring is opened and the A-ring is contracted. All of the aforementioned products show in vivo activity in KB cell culture assays. Further, the preferred compounds have different in vivo activities, which makes them ideal to form a range of standards for use in biological testing of other compounds.

  • Patent number: 5292344
Abstract: The present invention provides a system for delivering electrical impulses of suitable magnitude and frequency to the inner lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The system senses the motor activity of the intestinal tract, thus providing feedback as to the body's response to the imposed electrical stimulation. Further, the system monitors critical parameters of gastrointestinal luminal contents, such as pH. Moreover, the system may include a delivery port for administration of fluids or materials to the gastrointestinal tract, and/or for removing fluids or materials from the gastrointestinal tract. Preferably, the system penetrates the skin surface and the inner lining of the gastrointestinal tract, in the stomach, intestine, or colon. The invention provides embodiments which can be adapted for easy removal for placement on a short-term basis, as well as embodiments having a longer-lasting design for placement on a relatively permanent basis.

  • Patent number: 5293469
Abstract: The apparatus provides a way of receiving graphic symbols whose sizes are mutually different, and whose positions are irregularly arranged, such as a handwritten flow chart. For example, the apparatus automatically generates a flow chart image in which sizes of the graphic symbols are adjusted to be balanced, and in which the positions of the centers of the graphic symbols are aligned. First, the apparatus transforms the input graphic image into vectors representing the graphic symbols. Then, a set of symbol parameters are recognized for each graphic symbol. Center positions of the groups of graphic symbols which fall within a predetermined range, are aligned. Also, the heights and widths of the group of graphic symbol are adjusted through use of the symbol parameters. Finally, aligned, size-adjusted graphic symbols are output in an output image.
