  • Patent number: 6033271
Abstract: A ship propulsion system in which the ship's propeller is connected with its propeller shaft directly to a drive mechanism. A thrust bearing in the drive mechanism receives directly the thrust of the propeller shaft. An auxiliary drive with an electrical machine is operable selectively as a motor or as a generator, and a coupling is provided between the electrical machine and transmission linkage in the auxiliary drive. A gear on the transmission surrounds the propeller shaft, and a flexible coupling connects the transmission to the propeller shaft. Mounted on a separate section of the propeller shaft between the transmission and the drive mechanism, is a shiftable coupling which is free of play and transmits torque from the drive mechanism to the propeller shaft as well as the thrust of the propeller shaft. An auxiliary thrust bearing is connected to the shiftable coupling and is actuated when the ship is in auxiliary or emergency operation during which the propeller shaft has a reduced thrust.

  • Patent number: 6022427
Abstract: A method of manufacturing helical springs from steel wire. The springs' skin is thermomechanically hardened by shot peening the unstressed springs followed by thermally destressing them, and shot peening them again. The second shot peening is carried out in at least two steps. The method produces springs that are just as strong as conventional but smaller and lighter in weight. The first one of the steps is a rough shot peening with shot that is coarser than in the second one of the steps which is a fine shot peening was shot at a lower speed than in the first step. This increases compression of the wire's surface and polishes the wire's surface.

  • Patent number: 5979342
Abstract: A burner for the combustion of coal dust in which a stream of primary air and coal dust mixture is conducted through a dust conduit connected to a primary dust tube. A secondary air tube surrounds the primary dust tube, and a tertiary air tube surrounds the secondary air tube. The secondary and tertiary air tubes are connected to a helically-shaped input housing, and a conically flared section extends from each of the secondary and tertiary air tubes. An angular momentum is applied in the dust conduit divides the primary air and coal dust mixture into high-dust and low-dust partial streams, so that the high-dust partial stream flows through the primary dust tube, and the low-dust partial stream flows through the primary gas tube.

  • Patent number: 5979066
Abstract: The compass according to the invention comprises a compass top and two compass legs (1,2) mounted rotatably in the compass top, the compass top comprising two top-halves (3,4). Provided in each compass-top half is a bearing pivot (19) for respectively bearing a compass leg, as well as a counter-core (20) which, in the assembled state, engages in the bearing pivot of the corresponding compass-top half. A permanent and even radial frictional clamping is thus produced. At the same time, the counter-cores bring about a limitation to the opening of the compass due to corresponding in the compass legs.

  • Patent number: 5935614
Abstract: A method of injection-molding three-layer moldings, especially bottle blanks, having inner and outer layers of a "material A" and of a "material B". Material B can be a material that acts as a barrier against the gases O.sub.2, CO.sub.2, and SO.sub.2, and against water vapor (H.sub.2 O). The method employs a device that comprises at least one mold and at least one flat hot runner. The mold has several cavities and the hot runner has the same number of dies. Material A is supplied to the cavities (1.1) through an annular gap between the inner (2.1) and the outer (2.2) component of each die. Material B is forced into the cavities through a hollow needle (3) that extends through the center of the inner die component by a piston (4) that is integrated into the die and cannot rotate. The needle has a port (6) that opens into it at a right angle and remains open as long as the needle remains advanced, in a closing position, and that is blocked when the needle is retracted. A reservoir (3.

The piston is provided with pressure-sensitive valves for the exchange of fluid during suction and compression states and separates the cylinder into two compartments. Passages are provided for the fluid that applies pressure to the valves to flow through. Space that communicates with whichever compartment it faces and supplies regulating pressure to the particular shock-absorbing valve is provided on the side of the shock-absorbing valve that faces away from the passages. The piston is mounted on a control bolt. The control bolt has two valve seats and two bypass systems. One seat is associated with an electromagnetic spool accommodated in the first bypass system and chokes the fluid flowing through it.

  • Patent number: 5887613
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for the regulation of a constant outflow from a liquid container, in particular from a rain reservoir, with an outflow opening for the liquid, wherein to the outflow opening is assigned a movable throttle element, which in dependence on the liquid level regulates the outflow of the liquid from the container.According to the invention, it is proposed that a component part (2) that is form-changeable in dependence on the fluid pressure control the throttle element, wherein takes place the stopping-down movement of the throttle element against a restoring force (spring 5).A device of this sort makes possible a regulation of a constant outflow from a fluid container, without requiring for this the use of a float.
