  • Patent number: 4549495
Abstract: A stitch shortening device for a blind stitch sewing machine. A multiple cam is provided for reciprocating the feed drive lever. An adjustment wheel with peripheral teeth regulates the drive position of the multiple cam for lengthening or shortening the stitch by adjusting the feed drive. A pneumatic motor drives a toothed wheel meshing with the peripheral teeth of the adjusting wheel. When the pneumatic power is applied, the motor rotates the adjusting wheel in the direction of rotation of the sewing machine shaft but at a greater speed to maintain the adjusting wheel in large stitch drive position. When the operator activates a switch to cut off the pneumatic drive, the toothed wheel is idled and the adjusting wheel is moved into short stitch drive position. Applying the pneumatic power again moves the adjusting wheel into large stitch drive position again.

  • Patent number: 4545223
Abstract: A padlock, which comprises a lock casing and a basically U-shaped shackle slidable therein between a closed and an open position. The shackle has two legs of different length, of which at least one is provided with a locking notch. The padlock also comprises a cylinder lock mechanism, operable by a key, and at least one locking member coacting with a guiding portion of a turnable member of the cylinder lock mechanism for locking the shackle to the lock casing. The locking member is movable dependent on the angular position of the guiding portion of the cylinder lock mechanism between a locking and a releasing position. The releasing position allows the shorter shackle leg to completely slide out from the lock casing. A retaining member is attached to the lock casing in order to keep the cylinder lock mechanism properly fitted in the lock casing. The removal of the retaining member from the lock casing requires turning of the retaining member in relation to the lock casing.

  • Patent number: 4546231
Abstract: A method of providing a thin parting zone in diamond and other crystal material is used to separate the crystal into multiple parts. The method comprises the following steps. An entrance window is prepared on the outer surface of the crystal. The window can transmit a beam of energy. An energy beam is focussed on a point zone of energy absorbing material which is spaced from the window in the crystal. The energy absorbing zone is generated at the focal point of the beam. The focal point of the beam is scanned through a succession of overlapping potential damage cells which lie along a predetermined parting zone within the crystal. The beam creates a plurality of actual damage cells comprised of shattered material which creates the parting surface. The succession of potential damage cell is such that the previously generated actual damage cells do not lie along the path of the beam between the actual damage cells being generated and the window.

  • Patent number: 4544267
Abstract: A finger pressed against a platen or a fingerprint card provides a fingerprint object which is scanned by an interrogating beam of collimated light that is linearly displaced across the platen thereby maintaining a constant angle between the interrogating light beam and the plane of the object being scanned. As the beam scans across the fingerprint object, the reflected light beam is modulated. The modulated beam is imaged onto a linear array of photo-responsive devices to provide a series of output signals indicative of modulation information. The outputs of the devices are serially interrogated at each of successive scan positions to provide a set of signals containing fingerprint information.

  • Patent number: 4532748
Abstract: The invention provides a building block having a shape derived from that of a cuboid, wherein the upper corners of the front face (1) are cut-away and a recess communicates between the bottom face (2) and the rear face (3). Preferably, the sum of the depth to which the said corners are cut away backwards from the front face and the depth to which the recess extends forward from the back face is greater than the depth of the block. Thus, when the blocks are built into a wall in the conventional manner louvres are formed by the recess of one block and the adjacent cut-away portions of two blocks below. The cut-away portions at the corners may be tetrahedral or half segments of a circle or ellipse, for example. The recesses may be tetrahedral or segments of a circle or ellipse.
