Patent number: 8011172Abstract: An engine arrangement for a component subject to icing. The arrangement comprising a manifold as part of a flow path incident upon a heated component. The manifold including holes to create jets having an exit angle toward the component subject to icing. The jets of hot gas are entrained in a core flow passing through the main flow path before washing over a desired incident area of the component. The exit angle and spacing between the jet and the component are determined to reduce disruption of the core flow and/or provide the desired incident area on the component and/or use the minimum amount of hot air.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2007Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLCInventor: Clive Lockwood

Patent number: 8014929Abstract: Operation of gas turbine engines and in particular gas turbine engines utilised for aircraft, in an efficient manner is a desired objective. Thus engine efficiency is typically determined through use of an engine performance parameter. One such engine performance parameter is with regard to specific fuel consumption. However, such parameters may vary as a result of inherent deterioration with regard to the engine. By utilising a computational model to determine variations in the performance parameter such as the specific fuel consumption changes as a result of such inherent engine degradation can be accommodate. Thus, such degradation may not swamp actual changes in fuel consumption or the engine performance parameter which are indicative of changes of engine efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2008Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Rolls-Royce PLCInventors: Michael Page, Richard Lawrence Webb, Scott Frazer Howard

Patent number: 7997378Abstract: The invention concerns a hydraulic steering with a steering initiator, a steering unit with feedback properties, which can be activated by the steering initiator, the steering unit having a supply connection arrangement with a pressure connection (P) and a tank connection (T) and a working connection arrangement with two working connections (L, R), an auxiliary-force operated steering valve, which is located in parallel with the steering unit between the supply connection arrangement (P, T) and the working connection arrangement (L, R), and a feedback suppressing device, which is active, when the steering valve is active. It is endeavoured to find a simple manner of ensuring the priority of the steering initiator over the steering valve. For this purpose, the steering initiator interacts with an activation sensor, which deactivates the feedback suppressing device on an activation of the steering initiator.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2009Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: Sauer-Danfoss ApsInventors: Bendt Porskrog, Kjeld Buus Jensen, Finn Visgaard Nielsen, Svend Erik Thomsen

Patent number: 7992396Abstract: A method of analyzing a refrigeration system (1) comprising at least one compressor (4), at least one condenser (5) and at least two refrigeration entities (2), each comprising at least one evaporator (9). Based on information relating to the gas production by the evaporators (9) it is determined whether or not two or more evaporators (9) are running in a synchronized manner, i.e. are switching between an active and an inactive state at least substantially simultaneously. In case two or more evaporators (9) are running in a synchronized manner, the refrigeration system (1) may be controlled in order to desynchronize the evaporators (9). This may, e.g., be done by changing a cut-in temperature and/or a cut-out temperature for one of the corresponding refrigeration entities (2). Synchronization causes undesired variations in the suction pressure, and preventing synchronization therefore results in a more appropriate control of the refrigeration system (1). Reduces wear on the compressors (4).Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2006Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Danfoss A/SInventors: Claus Thybo, Lars Finn Sloth Larsen

Patent number: 7980162Abstract: A rotary punch includes an upper die plate, a lower die plate, and a support frame having a drive assembly that moves the upper die plate horizontally and vertically along a generally circular pathway. The lower die plate is connected to the support frame for movement in a linear horizontal direction only. The upper die plate is vertically slidably connected to the lower die plate by way of one or more vertical rods attached to the upper die plate that extend down through bushings provided in the lower die plate. In operation, the lower die plate horizontally follows the upper die plate as the latter is moved along its circular pathway. Concurrently, the upper plate moves towards and away from the lower plate. This maintains a substantially constant alignment between the die plates for carrying out a periodic machining operation on a moving web of material passing there between.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2007Date of Patent: July 19, 2011Assignee: Formtek Metal Forming, Inc.Inventors: Benjamin A. Patent number: 7983710Abstract: To reduce intercell interference, a method of coherently coordinated downlink transmission in a wireless network involves coordinating transmissions from a plurality of base stations to a plurality of wireless units, for coherent, reinforced reception of the transmitted signals at the wireless units. Thus, transmissions from the base stations are coordinated such that signals received at each wireless unit's particular location constructively add, but cancel out at other locations. The signals are generated based on a zero-forcing operation, e.g., by applying zero-forcing complex antenna weight vectors to data symbols designated for transmission to the wireless units. For fairness, the signals are transmitted at no less than a guaranteed common rate. A convex optimization problem (which incorporates a per-base station power constraint or a per-transmission antenna power constraint) is solved to maximize the guaranteed common rate. Dirty paper coding may also be employed.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2007Date of Patent: July 19, 2011Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventor: Gerard J. Foschini
