  • Patent number: 8259161
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods, devices, and non-transitory computer readable media that relate to stereoscopic image creation. A camera captures an initial image at an initial position. A target displacement from the initial position is determined for a desired stereoscopic effect, and an instruction is provided that specifies a direction in which to move the camera from the initial position. While the camera is in motion, an estimated displacement from the initial position is calculated. When the estimated displacement corresponds to the target displacement, the camera automatically captures a candidate image. An acceptability analysis is performed to determine whether the candidate image has acceptable image quality and acceptable similarity to the initial image. If the candidate image passes the acceptability analysis, a stereoscopic image is created based on the initial and candidate images.

  • Patent number: 8260589
Abstract: Methods and systems for modeling a porous physical object for layered manufacturing are provided. A model of an object includes geometric and material porosity models, each of which are divided into two-dimensional layer representations. Each two-dimensional layer represents a cross-section of the geometric model and material porosity model of the object, respectfully. The material porosity layer representations specify a material porosity variation for the layer. Geometric and material porosity contours of the model are created by iso-Z surface extraction for each layer. Using the contours, a boundary constrained line representation of each two-dimensional layer representation is generated using continuous space-filling fractal curves to characterize the material porosity variation for each two-dimensional layer.

  • Patent number: 8255313
Abstract: A margin requirement is computed while trading. The margin requirement may be calculated while trading because the preferred system takes into account working orders to generate the margin requirement. The on the fly possibility allows the preferred system to provide pre-trade risk calculations, but can also be used to provide post-trade calculations. A generic spread number and the maximum number of outright positions are determined. Using the spread positions and the maximum number of outright positions, a spread margin and an outright margin are calculated, which when summed provide a total margin requirement. Limits based in part on the total margin requirement may be imposed on one or more traders.

  • Patent number: 8248109
Abstract: Methods and systems for detection of zero crossings in a signal are described. For example, true zero crossings in an alternating voltage power source signal can be detected in the presence of noise pulses. The zero crossing detections are performed by establishing a value of a signal status counter, and at a repeating interval if the signal is a logic low value, the value of the signal status counter is decremented if the signal status counter is greater than a first value otherwise a flag is set to enable detection of a zero crossing in the signal. In addition, at the repeating interval, if the signal is a logic high value, the value of the signal status counter is incremented, and if after incrementing the signal status counter is equal to a second value and the flag is set, a zero crossing of the signal is declared.

  • Patent number: 8247240
Abstract: Performing high-resolution determination of the relative shift of the spectral properties of a biosensor. The shift in the resonance peak of the biosensor is indicative of the amount of material bound to the surface of the biosensor. A preferred biosensor is a Guided Mode Resonant Filter Biosensor (GMRFB). In one aspect of the invention, curve fitting is used to determine the relative location of the spectrum of the unexposed biosensor with respect to those spectra that are altered (e.g., shifted) by the presence of materials bound to the surface of the biosensor. In an alternative embodiment, the cross correlation function is used to detect spectral peak offsets between a reference spectrum and a spectrum measured from an exposed biosensor. In yet another alternative, maximal likelihood estimation techniques are used to determine the spectral shift or offs.

  • Patent number: 8249978
Abstract: A user can submit an order to buy or sell a tradeable object, only the order does not get sent to the matching engine. Instead, the order is placed in temporary storage and it is displayed to the user in the form of a virtual order icon. The virtual order icon indicates that an order request is waiting for an event to occur before it is automatically released to the matching engine. The virtual icon to a different price level or deleting it. The system continuously monitors for an event to take place. In response to detecting the event, the order is released to the matching engine. As such, the virtual order icon is transformed or removed and a real order icon is displayed indicating that the order has now been sent to the matching engine.

  • Patent number: 8250006
Abstract: A predictive algorithm for predictive at least one output variable based on a plurality of input variables is developed using a genetic programming technique that evolves a population of candidate algorithms through multiple generations. Within each generation, the candidate algorithms are evaluated based on three fitness criteria: (i) an accuracy criterion that evaluates each candidate algorithm's ability to predict historical measurements of the at least one output variable based on corresponding historical measurements of the input variables; (ii) a complexity criterion that evaluates each candidate algorithm's complexity; and (iii) a smoothness criterion that evaluates each candidate algorithm's nonlinearity. The predictive algorithm may be implemented in an inferential sensor that is used to monitor a physical, chemical, or biological process, such as an industrial process in an industrial plant.
