  • Patent number: 4593497
Abstract: Apparatus and process for the recovery of particulate material lost during the passage of a surface treatment blast head having a magnetic particle seal over the surface under treatment. Wipers adapted to substantially contain the leakage material are spaced in close proximity around the outside perimeter of the magnetic seal. One or more slotted vacuum tubes are positioned between the magnetic seals and the wipers; each vacuum tube being interconnected by hoses or pipes to a recovery chamber which, in turn, is operatively interconnected with the blast head through a material transfer valve. The recovery chamber is further provided with a vacuum flapper valve adapted to selectively inhibit the flow of vacuum air through the chamber and slotted vacuum tube. During a first step the vacuum valve is open and the material transfer valve is closed.

  • Patent number: 4592276
Abstract: A printing machine including a conveyor equipped with spaced-apart carriers for moving articles to a printing station and then to a discharge station, and an intermittently operating drive for the conveyor whereby the carriers are stopped at the printing station. An ultraviolet reactive ink is used during printing with an ultraviolet curing station. The curing station comprises rotatable pick-up means for a printed article whereby the article is adapted to be rotated during exposure at the curing station. An article drive is provided for rotating the pick-up means about its axis, and the article drive has an axis of rotation which is offset relative to the axis of the pick-up means so that an eccentric drive is imparted to the pick-up means. The article drive is connected to the intermittently operated drive whereby the driving action imparted to said pick-up means is simultaneously influenced by said intermittently operated drive and by said eccentric drive.

  • Patent number: 4587065
Abstract: A method of producing a light transmitting article of synthetic resin by polymerizing incompletely a monomer Ma which forms a network polymer Pa having a refractive index Na, thereby forming a self-supporting body material, and subsequently diffusing a monomer Mb, which forms a polymer Pb having a refractive index Nb different from the refractive index Na, into said body material and simultaneously polymerizing said monomer Mb, wherein said method comprises steps of drawing out continuously a body material from a molding means in which said body material has been formed and is ready for the diffusion of the monomer Mb, and passing said body material through a diffusion means and a heating means one after the other, diffusing the monomer Mb into said body material by the aid of said diffusion means and then heating said body material by the aid of said heating means so that the distribution of said monomer Mb is fixed in said body material.

  • Patent number: 4587069
Abstract: A process for producing a color display means of the type used for detecting the depletion of a cleaning and disinfecting ingredient in a solution such as the water present in a toilet tank and bowl. The display means comprises a solid composition which includes a color indicator in a matrix, and this composition is located in the solution along with the cleaning and disinfecting ingredient. The cleaning and disinfecting ingredient has a bleaching tendency relative to the color indicator so that a display of color is minimal or non-existent for as long as significant amounts of the ingredient are present. The color indicator will, however, provide a substantial display of color after depletion of the ingredient whereby depletion of the ingredient can be detected. The porosity of the solid composition is maintained within limits to provide a means for controlling the rate of release of the color indicator into the solution.

  • Patent number: 4582697
Abstract: A process for the production of aluminum trihydroxide having controlled median diameter of 2 to 100 microns, with a unimodal distribution and minimum deviation, by decomposing a hot supersaturated sodium aluminate solution in the presence of seed aluminum trihydroxide, separating the resultant solid and liquid phases and recovering the solid phase constituted by precipitated aluminum trihydroxide. The process comprises grinding aluminum trihydroxide until the aluminum trihydroxide has a specific BET surface area of at least 1 m.sup.2 /g, introducing the ground aluminum trihydroxide into a hot fraction of the supersaturated sodium aluminate solution to precipitate trihydroxide seed and then decomposing the remaining fraction of the supersaturated sodium alimuniate solution in the presence of the seed. This decomposition leads to the precipitation of aluminum trihydroxide having the required median diameter.

  • Patent number: 4577962
Abstract: A firing weapon is associated with a laser radiation source mounted in proximity to the weapon and also with a detector which is sensitive to the laser radiation. The orientation of the radiation is adjusted independently of the aiming of the weapon in order to carry out continuous detection of the target as a result of detection of radiation by the detector after reflection from the target. The orientation and the time of transit of radiation between source and target are utilized in order to obtain target data relating to position in elevation and in azimuth as well as distance of the target. The data are processed in order to orient a real shot or in order to compare the data quantitatively with the position of a simulated projectile which follows a fictitious trajectory.

  • Patent number: 4577703
Abstract: Difficulties are encountered in mining in making shot-firing boreholes from a narrow cross-heading into the lateral walls at right angles to the length of the cross-heading. The invention provides for this purpose a drilling unit with a flexible drilling shaft (5) formed by a steel spiral, which is brought up in the direction (7) of the cross-heading and is deviated within the unit substantially at right angles into the direction (10) of the borehole. The deviating station (3) provided for this purpose comprises, in a preferred embodiment, a turntable (11) fitted with pairs of rollers (12), which absorbs the substantial feed forces and reduces the wear on the flexible drilling shaft (5). The circulation fluid necessary for the drilling is conveyed through a pressure hose extending within the flexible shaft (5), which is connected pressure-tightly to the ends of the flexible shaft by means of special screw fittings.
