  • Patent number: 7938033
Abstract: A continuously variable speed transmission includes a first guideway, a second guideway, wherein the first guideway and the second guideway remain stationary during operation at a particular speed ratio. The transmission further includes a first member moveably connected to the first guideway and the second guideway, the first member further comprising gear teeth and a second member having gear teeth positioned at an adjustable angle relative to the first member. A gear engages the gear teeth of the first member and the gear teeth of the second member. The speed ratio of the transmission is determined based on angle of the second member relative to the first member. Either of the first member or the second member may be the input with the other member being the output depending upon whether a speed increase or a speed decrease is desired.

  • Patent number: 7939958
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for an improved wind turbine and blade assembly are disclosed. The wind turbine has a wind turbine assembly being rotatably driven by the blade assembly. The wind turbine assembly has a shaft connected to an inner wheel by a supporting structure. A magnet array is disposed circumferentially about the inner wheel. A transformer array is disposed circumferentially about an outer wheel. The shaft rotates the inner wheel with the magnet array within the outer wheel having the transformer array for producing electricity. Blades are held in a neutral position into the wind by tensioning means.

  • Patent number: 7938458
Abstract: A door latch and striker combination for a vehicle door is provided with a pivotal cam on the striker assembly of the door frame so as to overcome misalignment between the latch assembly and striker assembly. When the door is moved from an open position to the closed position, the latch housing engages the cam, which pivots over center as the door closure continues, thereby lifting the latch assembly and door into proper alignment with the striker bolt on the door frame, such that the door can be closed. The cam is spring biased to an initial position with an inclined upper surface. The cam supports the latch assembly while the door is closed, and allows the latch assembly to slide over the upper cam surface when the door is opened.

  • Patent number: 7928287
Abstract: The present invention provides for rapid and large scale evaluation of expression of, or function of, nucleotide sequences in plants. The invention comprises three specific components which provide for fast and large scale evaluation of nucleotide sequences. The first component includes delivery in either a single event a library of different engineered vectors or a single engineered vector for a single target nucleotide sequence comprising sequences the function of which is desired to be known in plant cells. Surprisingly, applicants have discovered that, the introduction of multiple vectors to plant cells predominantly results in individual transgenic plants which contain only a single transformation event. The second feature of the invention involves a highly transformable, fast cycling and/or miniature size plant and the final step involves mass scale analysis of T0 plants for various phenotypes and plasmid rescue to identify the nucleotide sequence present in a particular phenotype.

  • Patent number: 7918586
Abstract: An apparatus, method, and system of aiming lighting fixtures. One aspect of the invention mounts a substantially collimated light source on a lighting fixture. The direction of the substantially collimated light source is fixed in a known relationship to the aiming direction of the lighting fixture. By finding the substantially collimated light source either by direct viewing or in a mirror, the aiming direction of the lighting fixture can be derived by using the known the relationship between the substantially collimated light source and the aiming direction of the fixture. Thus, the aiming direction of the fixture can be derived without operating the lighting fixture and can be derived even at relatively remote locations from the lighting fixture. The apparatus and method can be used on one fixture or a plurality of fixtures. It can also be used on one fixture of an array of fixtures to aim the entire array.

  • Patent number: 7918588
Abstract: A wide area lighting fixture includes a relatively large visor extending from a bowl shaped fixture reflector. The distal portion of the visor extends relatively far outwardly and downwardly and around the fixture opening. In operating position, the visor blocks most or all off field direct view of the light source in the fixture. Optionally a light absorbing surface or insert can be placed at the very bottom of the bowl shaped reflector to absorb or otherwise stop light that otherwise might go off-field to further control spill light, glare, and sky glow or uplight.

  • Patent number: 7913721
Abstract: The present invention is a recyclable oil drain pan intended to encourage proper disposal of used motor oil. The recyclable oil drain pan generally consists of a stiff outer container and a flexible inner container. The stiff outer container has a recessed upper surface that can be sloped towards an opening that passes through the upper surface. The opening of the outer container connects to the opening of a flexible inner container that receives the used oil. The opening can be sealed via a cap or plug to effectively contain the used motor oil. Preferably the entire apparatus would be recyclable.

  • Patent number: 7910308
Abstract: Genetic markers associated with fatty acid content in meat products from animals, particularly Angus cattle, are described. The genetic markers are located in the thioesterase-encoding region of the fatty acid synthase gene. The markers allow animals to be characterized for breeding or for identification purposes to indicate animals likely to have a distribution of fatty acids that are healthier, thus generating improved meat products.

  • Patent number: 7911591
Abstract: An L2F velocimeter comprises a probe for insertion into a fluid, the probe having an open area therein to allow the fluid to pass through. The probe comprises an illumination system to direct a pair of light beams, separated by a distance, through the open area, and a collection system to collect forward scattered light scattered from particles in the fluid. The collection system has an optical axis in common with the illumination system. The velocimeter further comprises an electro optical assembly connected to the probe to provide light to the illumination system, to receive light collected from the collection system, to measure a lapse time in fluctuations of the forward scattered light created by particles passing through the pair of light beams and to calculate the velocity of the fluid based on the lapse time and the separation distance.

  • Patent number: 7901557
Abstract: The present invention provides a simple method to correct cross-talk, after the data have been generated. Adjacent signals are simply subtracted from the original observed signal with a repeating process. The data processing is stopped when a predefined condition is met. By this technique, cross-talk can be reduced from >5% to less than 0.1%. And as an additional advantage, this method provides a way to correct the cross-talk without the need to know which peaks are caused by the adjacent capillary signal.

  • Patent number: 7896756
Abstract: A golf swing training apparatus allows a user to learn a stable swing motion by acquiring a correct swing posture in performing a swing motion and to train turning motion of the user's shoulder and a rotating motion of the user's waist in a natural manner. The golf swing training apparatus includes: a body, which is arranged between both arms when a user takes an address posture, and has a reverse trapezoid-shape corresponding to a shape formed by the arms. The golf swing training apparatus controls changes in shapes of both arms, such as the interval between the arms becomes widened, bending of elbows, etc. when a golfer performs a swing motion in a swing training so as to guide his/her shoulder and waist to be smoothly turned. As a result, the golfer can learn a stable swing motion.
