Patent number: 8351495Abstract: A method and apparatus for detection and analysis of interference and noise in a received signal within a bandwidth of a predetermined communication channel. A receiver receives a modulated signal and generates a demodulated digital baseband signal. A digital quadrature demodulator receives the digital baseband data signal and demodulates the digital baseband data signal to generate complex digital signal soft-symbol decisions at its output at the received symbol rate. A processor interface in communication with the digital quadrature demodulator and the controller transfers data between the digital quadrature demodulator and the controller. The controller reconstructs a transmitted signal from the transferred data and subtracts the transmitted signal from the modulated signal to generate a third signal representative of noise and interference underlying the transmitted signal within a predetermined communications channel containing the transmitted signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2009Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Teledyne Paradise Datacom, LLCInventor: David Skeet

Patent number: 8348666Abstract: A water spray intensity system for providing water to a dental workpiece based on dynamic conditions experienced by the handpiece. The dental workpiece is a dental structure, typically in the mouth of a patient. A periodic function of the handpiece may include a motion such as a periodic motion of a tool of the handpiece, the speed of the rotating tip or some measurable parameter such as the torque experienced by a rotating tip assembled to the handpiece. Instead of providing water at a constant flow rate, the periodic function of the handpiece, such as torque or tip speed, is made by measuring a parameter associated with the handpiece. The water spray intensity system then automatically adjusts the flow of water from the handpiece based on the sensed parameter or periodic function to improve cutting efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2007Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Dentsply International, Inc.Inventor: Timothy M. Patent number: 8345948Abstract: A method of inspecting a turnout of a track includes the steps of: capturing images of the components of the turnout; converting each image into a set of coordinates that traces the transverse cross-section of a rail profile; analyzing the rail profile to determine if the rail profile is a profile of arunning rail portion or a component. Upon determination that the image represents a component, taking measurements of the rail profile and applying virtual gauges to the rail profile to check for potentially dangerous conditions of the component; and generating a summary of each cross-section of the rail profile of the component indicating problem areas. The method is used for identifying certain classes of switch or turnout rail conditions which can lead to derailments, and for enhancing the turnout inspection approach currently used.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2009Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Harsco CorporationInventors: Allan M. Patent number: 8337144Abstract: A system and method is provided for detecting and controlling rotating stall in the diffuser region of a compressor. A pressure transducer is placed in the gas flow path downstream of the impeller, preferably in the compressor discharge passage or the diffuser, to measure the sound or acoustic pressure phenomenon. Next, the signal from the pressure transducer is processed either using analog or digital techniques to determine the presence of rotating stall. Rotating stall is detected by comparing the detected energy amount, which detected energy amount is based on the measured acoustic pressure, with a predetermined threshold amount corresponding to the presence of rotating stall. Finally, an appropriate corrective action is taken to change the operation of the compressor in response to the detection of rotating stall.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2010Date of Patent: December 25, 2012Assignee: Johnson Controls Technology CompanyInventors: Robert E.
