  • Patent number: 5748630
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing cells in an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) communication system. An ATM cell processor includes a load multiple instruction which provides a burst transfer of a data block from an external control memory, and allows the result of a subsequent operation on a loaded value to be automatically written back to the control memory location from which it was previously read. The instruction may specify the address in the control memory of a data block to be retrieved, a destination register in a CPU register file into which the first retrieved halfword of a data block will be loaded, and a total number of halfwords to be retrieved. The instruction includes a link field option which directs the storage of information linking the processor registers which receive the retrieved halfwords to the control memory locations from which the halfwords were read.

  • Patent number: 5748631
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for processing cells in an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) communication system. An ATM cell processor implements a "bubble" count technique which efficiently accommodates multiple layers of scheduling requests and/or external cell sources. In the case of multiple layers of scheduling requests, first and second primary scoreboards are provided for scheduling/servicing of, for example, higher and lower priority traffic, higher and lower cell rate traffic, or externally and internally generated traffic, respectively. A bubble count is maintained for the second scoreboard, and the count is incremented each time the first scoreboard is serviced and decremented each time an idle slot is encountered on the second scoreboard but not queued for transmission. Scheduling requests for the second scoreboard are then made at a target time plus the bubble count.

  • Patent number: 5745158
Abstract: An indication apparatus of paper amount within a paper cassette is provided. The paper amount varies due to consumption and has a corresponding variable weight. The cassette has a paper guiding apparatus for positioning the papers and the paper guiding apparatus has a bottom plate touching against a spring force. The cassette has a bottom which has a hook thereon. The indication apparatus comprises a cable having a first end connected to the hook and a second end. A shaft is connected to the cassette for supporting the cable and allowing the cable to slide on a path defined by the shaft. A glider with a predetermined weight is connected to the second end of the cable and has an indicator thereon. A plunger is positioned vertically and engages with the cassette for guiding the movement of the glider. The indicator indicates the amount of papers within the cassette in response to the variable weight of papers within the cassette, the spring force and the predetermined weight of the glider.

  • Patent number: 5745739
Abstract: An address generator is disclosed for performing 2-D virtual coordinate to linear physical memory address conversion. The address generator has an edge walking circuit which receives a 2-D virtual coordinate of a first pixel on a first edge of an object displayed on the display screen. The edge walking circuit selectively outputs a 2-D virtual coordinate of a second pixel which intercepts the first edge of the object at an adjacent pixel row or column to the first pixel. The address generator also has a span expansion circuit which receives the 2-D virtual coordinate of the second pixel. The span expansion circuit selectively expands the 2-D virtual coordinate of the second pixel, according to the number of bits used to represent each pixel and the amount of information which can be accessed at a time from memory. This produces first and second expanded coordinates of the second pixel.

  • Patent number: 5744990
Abstract: A comprehensive power-on-reset (POR) and low voltage detection circuit combines a Power Supply Voltage Level Detection (PSVLD) circuit with an Enhanced Retriggering (ER) circuit. The PSVLD circuit establishes lower and upper thresholds of the desired operating voltage range, and provide initial POR triggering and retriggering when the supply voltage is within the desired range. The ER circuit senses a predetermined amount of drop in the power supply voltage being monitored, and generates an independent pulse at the POR node whenever such a drop occurs. Total DC current is limited to less than 2.5 microamps, while power supply voltages can be monitored for stability over the range of 2.5 to 5.5 volts.

  • Patent number: 5737693
Abstract: A baseband simulation system is disclosed for testing an RF subsystem of a communication device, such as a cellular telephone, cordless telephone, etc. A preferred embodiment has a computer connected to an interface card which in turn is connected to a baseband simulation subsystem. The baseband simulation subsystem is connected to the RF subsystem under test. The baseband simulation subsystem includes three ports: a timing and control (TAC) port, an IQ port, and general purpose input output (GPIO) port. The TAC port receives a master clock signal from an external source and generates plural clocks therefrom. The IQ and GPIO ports receives at least one of these plural clocks. In a transmit mode, in response to one or more of the clocks generated by the TAC port, the IQ port retrieves from its memory prestored discrete I and Q samples and reconstructs therefrom arbitrary transmit analog i and q signals which are provided to the RF subsystem under test.

  • Patent number: 5721154
Abstract: A unique DRAM structure has increased capacitance by using a four parallel fin capacitor structure. A preferred method for fabricating the DRAM is disclosed. DRAM cell is formed on a silicon substrate having a first conductivity type. Field oxide (FOX) regions are defined in the substrate to separate DRAM cells. Drain and source regions are formed in the substrate by forming in the substrate regions. On the substrate surface and between the drain and source, a gate region is formed. The gate region comprises a gate oxide, a Poly-1 layer, a tungsten silicide (WSi) layer, an oxide layer, and a SiO.sub.2 or SiN layer. SiO.sub.2 or SiN spacers cover the sides of the gate regions. Above the gate region is an insulating layer of TEOS (tetraethylorthosilicate) or BPSG (borophosphosilicate). A Poly-2 layer having a second conductivity type opposite the first conductivity type contacts the source and drain regions. The Poly-2 layer forms a bitline where it contacts the source region.

  • Patent number: 5714974
Abstract: A display device with improved color and grey scale capability employs an improved time dependent dithering technique. In the display device, each pixel is controlled so as to be illuminated for only a certain number of times during a display time period, the number of illuminations during the display period being dependent on the color or grey scale value of a corresponding pixel in an original image and a dither matrix element. After each frame in the fixed time period, the dither matrix elements are circulated to a new position, thereby introducing a time factor into the dithering technique.
